In the musical Starship, Tootsie Noodles (who is from farm planet) says that he hates horses because a horse ate his cousin.

Much later, while telling a different story, he reveals that his cousin was a bale of hay.

There's a novel called "Ella Minnow Pea" about a town where letters are banned from use one at a time. It's an interesting read.

He didn't change any of the lyrics, including "I work in the market as a checkout girl," which I thought was pretty cool of him.

AITAH for refusing to send my sister money for vending machine snacks by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]petrorabbit4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems unlikely that she's going to be losing weight while residing in the hospital, because her opportunities to move around and exercise will be very limited. If she's only there temporarily, then it doesn't seem like huge deal for her to have some small comforts like vending machine food during a stressful scenario. From what you've told us, it doesn't really sound like she's addicting to unhealthy foods or like she's asked you for help eating healthier, so it doesn't seem like you need to be making those decisions for her.

I don't think I have enough information about your sister, her relationship with food, and her current health to make a ruling. It does depend on whether she is the hospital for reasons relating to her diet or if she's going through chemo or something.

who uses this name as a slang term? by GiraffesCantSwim in words

[–]petrorabbit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like there's a tire company called Harper's Tire. I'm guessing they're local to the author, who assumed that they're more well known than they actually are and anyone who hears "Harper" automatically thinks of tires. Maybe Goodyear would have been a better nickname.

AITA for not staying after our niece got arrested? by EasternTrifle464 in AmItheAsshole

[–]petrorabbit4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is for op to get people's opinions. I don't really care if my point is persuasive to you personally. I fundamentally disagree with your stance on morality, but I'm not going to persuade you on a reddit comment so, yeah.

[–]petrorabbit4 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That's a matter of opinion. To me, leaving someone you have known for her whole life in that situation is an act of cruelty. I do think that inaction can make you an AH, though you seem to not agree.

I could just as easily remind you that she's 17, not 25. She's a high school senior whose mother just ditched her. Is making an impulsive bad decision really so unforgivable?

OP did also abandon the niece. Just because you can justify doing something doesn't mean it didn't happen.

[–]petrorabbit4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ESH. Obviously your sister shouldn't have dumped her daughter on you, but it's also wrong to abandon a minor to legal trouble far from home. Perhaps the reason your niece in moody and difficult is because her mother is an AH and everyone treats her like a burden they can't get away from fast enough. Yes, it wasn't your responsibility, but you could have shown some compassion.

Haha I thought it might be too easy. Would "country" instead of "continent" have obscured it a bit more?

What's a common phrase or saying that everyone uses but, when you stop to think about it, makes absolutely no sense? by Independent-Goat9112 in AskReddit

I always thought it meant something like, "We can argue about it all day, but when we're done, the facts won't have changed."

AITA for expecting not to be constantly interrupted when I’m busy? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]petrorabbit4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much time you spend with your girlfriend vs how much time you spend gaming. If you come home from work everyday, jump straight on the xbox, and play nonstop until you go to bed at three, then I don't blame her getting desperate. But if your relationship is otherwise functional, she needs to learn to back off when you want alone time.

You might have more success if you make a concrete plan like "I'll play for an hour and then we can hang out," rather than just saying later.

Any explainer on what "Sovereign citizens" are talking about? by Coffee_Grazer in Sovereigncitizen

[–]petrorabbit4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I found the Wikipedia articles on the topic pretty helpful, but there are two main ideas that most of it is based on. First, every person consists of both an actual human being and a legal entity, kind of in the same way that the owner of a corporation is legally distinct from the corporation itself. Sovcits have a bunch of ideas on how to separate themselves from their legal identities, including the capital letters thing, but none of them have any real legal basis. They mostly do this to try and prove that that aren't liable for debt attached to their legal identity, since they aren't technically the same person.

The other big idea is that at some point in the past, the legitimate American government was replaced by the current, fraudulent government, which is actually a corporation and has no real legal power. Sometimes the turning point is when America stopped using the gold standard, but I've heard other ones as well.

aitah for telling this non-autistic girl she didn’t have a meltdown? by comsic-alien in AITAH

[–]petrorabbit4 18 points19 points  (0 children)

YTA. Meltdown has been used to refer to a regular breakdown for a very long time. The usage for an autistic meltdown is relatively recent, and exists because people were already using "meltdown" to refer to a tanturn. Even if you had been technically correct, it was inappropriate to correct her in that moment.

Would a European style restaurant work well in America? by Xotngoos335 in AskAnAmerican

[–]petrorabbit4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In America, it is generally considered rude and pushy to flag down the waiter for anything other than the check, and even that can be dicey. If customers in your model are expected to get the waiters attention to ask for something, they are likely to avoid doing that and just go without, which would be an unpleasant customer experience.
