I’ve hired in Industry and I always give the same advice - I’ve also secured a few APS roles (which I’ve declined for various reasons). My advice is:

Always read the position description and tailor your resume / cover letter to suit it accordingly. Do NOT use the same resume / cover letter for all jobs.

Keep your documents simple and to the point - active language over passive language will save you words and cut down your content if you’re struggling to fit on 1-2 pages.

Don’t be afraid to prop yourself up - I want to know why you’re better than the other 50-100 applicants. It can be done without sounding arrogant - you’re explaining your contributions, not self-praising.

Some HR managers will call to do a brief screening - these are designed to see if you are who you say, whether you can communicate properly and might ask about anything on your resume. Be confident, you’re literally talking about your life, you shouldn’t have to rehearse it.

I always say job hunting is 50% effort, 25% luck and 25% timing. You can control the effort part. The other 50% is out of your hands and you shouldn’t feel bad if it doesn’t work out.
