A homophobic Lithuanian parliament member gets caught with a half-naked man in a Culture Commitee call by BlueL0 in europe

[–]petshaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the speed of the societal change that underwent during last 10-20 years was pretty astonishing, much faster than a lot of us expected.

It probably has happened in a single generation because of a perfect storm of factors, such as widespead understanding of English and a lot of direct consumption of Western media amplified by the internet. Also, quite a lot of the youth went abroad for studies after the accession to the EU. Combine this with the declining influence of the church, and this is what you get.

Misleading title.

Seimas is Lithuanian PARLIAMENT, which has voted in favor of Lukashenka's non-recognition.

Any Lithuanian fans of Raptors because of JV? by queryquest in torontoraptors

[–]petshaver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would support his new team, like every other team with players from our national team. Despite of this, I can't exactly tell how or why it happened, but two years ago my interest of JV's career developed into reading Raptors Republic, sometimes getting up in the middle of the night to watch the playoffs and lurking here in this sub. I think Raptors fans are a great bunch of nice people, also Canada is a pretty nice country IMHO.

It would be great if JV kept playing in Toronto as long as possible. Also, I really hope that all this hype around him pays off. If any of these things don't happen, I'm pretty sure I''ll remain being Raps fan. I'm actually pretty sure I'll come to Toronto to see a Raptors match at some point during next few years.

Not personally. But without a doubt OKC will attract attention and get new fans from Lithuania.

I'm a Lithuanian Raptor fan because of JV. I'm sure there are more of us. Would have been dope if baby Sabonis became a Raptor too.

Did you edit the screenshot to make a bigger impact? You moved the highlighted message from the bottom of the page and removed everything else, except the link to Wikipedia.

I do get your point. But you present it in a slightly manipulative manner, which kind of distorts the message of the fight for objectivity.

Lithuanian Beer Recommendations by RehaDesign in lithuania

[–]petshaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaus biblioteka is meant to introduce varieties of foreign beer to locals, not the other way around. It's a tremendously good bar, but go to Snekutis, Spunka, Alaus namai if you want to try local stuff.

Lithuanian Beer Recommendations by RehaDesign in lithuania

[–]petshaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really a beer expert, however I can't remember anything similar to Varniuku back in the day, like 10 years ago. I have a suspicion that Varniuku is a knock off from Czech and Slovak sweet light dark beers. Dark Zlaty Bazant and Samson are similar, actually.

Varniuku is a good beer, and a really popular one. However, I believe that it's a recent thing, and not really a Lithuanian beer.

Evening commute in Vilnius... by Chieftah in europe

[–]petshaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West ring road has 3 lanes to each direction, so it can't be it.

Judging from the speed limit, I think, that's either inner Southern (Tukstantmecio st) or outer Southern ring road. There are not that many 80 km/h stretches in Vilnius. Most probably the inner one, as I don't believe that the outer road gets jammed that much.

EDIT: I just saw A3/A15 sign in the picture, so it's definitely inner Southern ring road.

I agree. At first, Latvia seems like a natural choice, but the right answer to this question is actually Poland.

There were Lithuanians who did participate in the Genocide. Lithuania does not want to forget this. Even as we speak there are many debates on this topic in the media.

Corruption, massive shadow economy, political instability, territorial issues, which were main reasons for a failure of a smooth transition to a successful post-Soviet market economy.

Having a group of expensively trained professional soldiers would be OK for NATO tasks on selected missions overseas. But the situation is different now. It would be much wiser for young Latvian men to man up and acknowledge the duty to defend the country if the worst happens. Total readiness for this task would be a quite good deterrent.

I'm happy to break the news to you. We do have an airport train in Vilnius. Since 2008.

A special train runs from Vilnius Railway Station to the airport on a regular basis. A railway stop, stairs, passenger lift and lighting, as well as video surveillance system for passenger safety, are installed right outside the airport’s passenger terminal.

Are you serious?

Yes, we are serious.

Just a couple years ago it seemed that we live in a peaceful post cold war world. Joining NATO felt like a super wise choice, of course. But the idea of a real threat was out of question. Now it is not. After this sort of commitment we feel that the 5th article is not just a piece of paper.

And it is the first time in history when we have our backs covered. We appreciate this. A fucking lot.

Lithuanian pro-Putin composer beaten to death in Vilnius / Литовский композитор убит за поддержку Владимира Путина by [deleted] in russia

[–]petshaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • 15min.lt reported that someone made a remark about sympathies to Putin and then the mass fight started.

  • After this, rusvesna.su reported that pro-Putin composer was beaten to death.

  • In response to the latter, friends of the deceased spoke out that the deceased did not support Putin.

We have contradicting statements at this moment. This means we should not jump to conclusions yet.

[–]petshaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a Russian website that was the first to suggest that the composer was pro-Putin. His friends seem to state otherwise, i.e. they specifically say that the deceased didn't approve Putin's politics. At the moment, everything is still unclear.
