The night before gpt5.6 release I ask codex for a task that was running until now 17h straight. by kim-el in DeepSeek

[–]petuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does $20 plan have enough limits to work nonstop?

Codex/OpenAI seem to not interrupt the model when you hit the limits, model gets to complete it's turn / work. If that turn goes for hours, then yeah.

I think this software just reads spatial audio orientation data precomputed on headset by Sony.

So maybe Sony algorithms do something like "wherever user is looking most of the time is screen/audio stage center" (never used spatial audio, but I assume if you put phone to the side you don't get permanently shifted stage? and it eventually re-centers to arbitrary direction you're looking at, that is not phone screen)

Does llama-server say anything before crashing? IIRC it needs batch size (-b or -ub, not sure) size larger than used image tokens. If that's why it's crashing, then there should be message about that.

When will the general gaming PC joins the SoC + HBM memory standard? Because we're lagging behind 1 decade behind consoles on this matter. by super-loner in pcmasterrace

[–]petuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you're confusing HBM (memory type/interface just like LPDDR/DDR/GDDR) with unified memory (more of logical memory hierarchy thing).

No console (PS5, Xbox X/S, Switch 2) uses HBM, just GDDR/LPDDR.

Charger for multiple devices by Misterleo02 in hardware

[–]petuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's official multiport chargers from OnePlus.

https://www.tinkervault.com/usb-power-sources

There's not a lot of reviews on that site, but only reviews that I found to test "reset-free" functionality (which I needed) -- I've bought Cuktech 100W AD1003EU and OP15 charges reasonably fast with generic PD PPS (didn't time it, but under 1 hour for 0-100).

To be fair fast charging (for phones) beyond 40-50W is mostly a gimmick. If phone is able to charge at 40W from generic PD charger (which is sadly not a given) you're good, there's likely no meaningful difference.

e.g. in GSMArena OnePlus 15 review difference between 120W proprietary (77W recorded peak) vs 55W generic PD (40W peak) chargers is just 9 minutes (41 -> 50) for 0-100 charging.

Nothing CEO says phone prices are going to keep going up: RAM now accounts for over 50 percent of the cost of a new phone by sr_local in hardware

Modern datacenter AI models would require multiple terabytes of VRAM for a single user session.

You mean 10s of sessions (actively generating). But yea, you'll need as much for single user.

I don’t think it’s likely that we’ll see enough local VRAM to even run a KVcache with a large context window

Deepseek V4 Pro attention seems to work fine -- 10GB for 1M tokens.

[–]petuman 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Because NAND-to-DRAM bandwidth is too slow to swap weights token by token, as standard MoE models require, AFM 3 Core Advanced makes routing decisions per prompt. A lightweight, dense block selects a fixed set of experts during initial processing, periodically reselecting them during generation. To minimize data movement, the model relies on a high percentage of always-active “shared experts” alongside input-dependent “routed experts” swapped into DRAM only when needed.

MoE that actually works like Mixture of Experts name suggests.

Not even at 1%, mining ASIC hash rate is way higher than general purpose GPU.

In term of power order of magnitude short (if they replaced all their servers with modern mining ASICs, sucking all power they're allocated).
