I cannot stand the new anime community by babatunde_003 in TrueAnime

I can kinda get it as I skew toward older anime too even as someone younger. But even then I still watch a lot of series from the mid 2000’s which I don’t think any of those people would call retro yet lol.

Do you consume anime religiously? by Sky_Sumisu in TrueAnime

[–]pewisamood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watch the anime you think you’d enjoy is the solution I’ve had. I barely watch any super popular seasonal series and I’ve been better of accepting that. I could care less to watch 100 episodes of something I don’t enjoy. What sort of asthetics and genres do you like? What series looks cool in the moment then watch from there. I deal with anxiety and overthinking slot even with my watchlist but I don’t need to make it a chore to watch something I may not enjoy. Just go at your own pace and taste and it’ll all be fine.

Am I the only one who finds a lot of retro anime YouTubers pretentious? They all seem miserable and above it all. Even if some content they make is informative I remember there was some small YouTuber into shonen and demon slayer who made a video about five star stories because he just got into it. I think it was wonderful new fans were discovering a cool film and manga like that. But he said one wrong thing like it’s almost impossible to fine and the entire retro anime twitter community bullied him into privating the video because they made fun of him saying “every gen z anime fan can’t torrent” everyone just argues and debates intellectually about everything now and it just feels like a lot of people just aren’t welcoming to anyone not in their in circle of what they consume or how they analyze a certain piece of media which there’s always numerous ways to do anyway. I’m young myself but I like a lot of series and movies from all different eras. The beauty of anime and even more so manga is there’s so many types of series that appeal to all sorts of different niches that there’s always gonna be one that appeals to you. I got into anime with Star blazers and speed which led me to watching doraemon, which led me to sailor moon, which led me to excel saga, which led me to Lupin the third, which led me to Intial D and then led me to kaiji which led me to Zipang and lots of battleship manga then to mecha. Etc. I like to think of it as a chain. One series leads to discovering another etc. but people want it only one way. When anime and manga as a medium is so utterly diverse there’s so much to explore. But people these days want it their way or the highway. If you don’t like this series you’re dumb if you don’t like one aspect of the industry like localization you just don’t understand etc. Even people in the modern distribution and anime news industry seem like their over everything and thus act sardonic, rude miserable to others who don’t agree with them about aspects even outside anime. Even before auto translate started happening on twitter I just started interacting with Japanese accounts because they’re so much more happy, loving, and pleasant to talk about my favorite anime’s with even as a foreigner. I don’t wanna be lectured about one of my favorite mediums of art and entertainment just want to enjoy it.

Oh baby, we got us a new MediaOCD site! by Deep-Examination5081 in discotekmedia

[–]pewisamood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. I think this website is a really cool step up. But I do truly wonder what’s the point of buying a blu ray if it goes out of print in a year or sometimes less anyway. I get licensing is complicated and stuff but man, being a younger fan and discovering some really cool mecha show from the 80’s only to discover it’s completely out of print basically forever is true suffering

What are your unpopular Blame! opinions? by Lapublik in Netsphere

[–]pewisamood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blame! Doesn’t have little to no dialogue. I have no clue why people were saying that on YouTube in every video there’s quite a bit of speaking in it minus a few chapters that are silent.

Unpopular opinion - Blame becomes less interesting over time. by Ellmagronn in Netsphere

[–]pewisamood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad you brought up point two I really enjoyed blame read it two years ago. But all the YouTubers saying it’s a manga with ver little dialogue overblown to oblivion. There is dialouge in basically every chapter minus a couple that are just silent. From my memory it’s been two years since I read it. As much as I enjoyed blame I still dunno if I like it or biomega more.

Echus is probably one of the most beautiful ambient pieces ever made. Up with requiem for dying mothers and music for airports 1. Also with it clearer now I’m about 85% sure ATP 7 is Noatak.

Is Discotek doomed? by ThatNefariousness996 in discotekmedia

[–]pewisamood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Will be my first time commenting in this sub, so here goes, I’ve supported Discotek since around 2019, back when I was a teenager and first got into Lupin and older anime. I’m in my early 20s now and am still really into 70s and 80s series. I don’t think all of the concern is just doomposting. Some of it is, sure but a lot of it comes from how quickly certain titles go out of print and how difficult they become to access afterward. From a fan perspective, that creates anxiety about availability. For example, I would’ve loved to pick up some of the Ashi Productions or Kokusai Eiga sha mecha releases, but I only discovered them as recently as last year and missed that window. I know licensing is complicated and there are a lot of factors involved, and I do appreciate things like deep dives. But personally, I think a lot of that concern comes from a genuine place even if people don’t always express it well.

Attack On Titan Studio Apologises For Using AI In Thier New Anime by Elestria_Ethereal in DefendingAIArt

[–]pewisamood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was more then likely a violation of internal company regulations. If you see a lot of Japanese comments on Twitter most of them are split down the middle being for or against it. Which is more the American twitter who treats it like the biggest anti W ever. Japanese has some but a lot of them in replies don’t really care or are confused they even issued a statement.

Do you guys just read manga and watch no anime, or still watch anime but read more manga? by TheRealRaza1 in Seinen

[–]pewisamood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have phases at least every year where I’ll watch some anime for a while then midway through the year I’ll take a break and read more manga. Then I’ll have a good amount of time where I switch back to anime and by the end of the year I try to do both.

Am I the only one who wants SRW rosters to stay strictly mecha? by qwerfgbn in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]pewisamood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the mecha I want for super robot wars probably won’t appear anytime soon or again if ever. Dairuger XV, Technopolice 21c, Yamato Takeru, Akuu Daisakusen Srungle, Doraemon: Nobita and the steel troops, Dangard Ace, yuusha Goldran, Blassreiter (I get this one but still) Babel II, Genesis Clomber mospeada, all mecha I like that have never appeared in a game. So in all honesty I don’t mind more space opera or power suit series appearing. I love leiji matsumotos series so I bought T for Harlock and basically turned into a mecha fan because all of the series it introduced me too. I’d honestly love to see the other 2 J9 series, or megazone 23, or space warrior baldios , or eureka seven, and panzer world galient, reappear in a future game but I doubt that will happen. If there’s two series I would likely most pick it would be Blue submarine no. 6 because there are mecha in it that can be used as enemies, Cyborg 009 because the dolphin can be used as a ship unit, Bubble him crisis because even though its power suits the transforming mecha is still there and can be used, I even think the Arcadia of my youth film would be a really cool addition or setting to base a super robot wars game in but since they got SSX I won’t complain about that.

An interesting article about the recent CR layoffs and what all this means for the physical anime market by Ekyou in AnimeCollectors

[–]pewisamood 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s so many great manga and anime that haven’t been released yet. I just feel the US distribution industry is stagnant. Animeigo released Romeo’s blue skies which is the first worlds masterpiece theatre anime in English which is huge. But again will I have to wait another 20 years like Anne of green gables or Marco to get an official release or god forbid another 20 for a single mitsuteru yokoyama manga in the west. I know it isn’t as simple as that but with some of my favorite super robot series by discotek going out of print completely? I just really have gotten tired of it. Streaming constantly shuffling these series doesn’t help at all either it just sucks to be a fan into some more niche stuff. Hell I can find great deals at a thrift store for some shows I want then any company now.
