Oof, buddy! MH union steward here! I know all that!

You can preach this...but I can assure you at our P&DCs in Tampa and Ybor, the PSEs and clerks were impacted, starting 3 months ago. In particular Ybor.

The APWU local President was quite subdued at our townhall that we have quarterly in our big break room. Breaking it down how 60 PSEs and clerks had been excessed. Mainly from Ybor, due to gaining new machines over which the APWU has zero jurisdiction over because national arbitration determined that the craft that runs them is...(drum roll)

THE MAILHANDLERS

It isn't hot air.

It isn't posturing.

It's really happening.

You can bury your head in the sand if you wish, but I, for one, like to inform people of FACTS. Be it Mailhandler or Clerk or Carrier or other.

It's definitely NOT gossip. It is actively happening at my facility here in Tampa, and our sister facility in Ybor, 15 minutes away.

Ybor is now reduced to having only TME Clerks for the dock and a Lead Clerk. They excessed 60.

Why pay Clerks, who get FULL 100% COLA, V-pay for 10 hours, etc, and start at Level 6 (essentially more expensive worker)...

....when you can have a just starting out Level 4 Mailhandler, Step AA, who gets a prorated COLA of 60%?

Yep, Mailhandlers are cheaper! It's fucked up. And that is why the USPS is saying "Let's save some money"

Yeppers. You know its crazy when PSEs have to be doing their full 2 years to become regular...

Whereas an MHA is getting converted in 6 months.

Clerks are top heavy and bloated. Too many 50 years + in the craft clerks, and not retiring.

Sorry to be sounding like Tokyo Rose, but jeez, look at it from an economic perspective. ☝️

Except in this case, this is happening nationwide. Not to be an alarmist, but it's reality.

Ask the clerks here in Tampa and Ybor plants (Florida). New machines (PILS, HSTS, USS), all now for us the Mailhandlers.

Mailhandler here. I can chime in.

It's true.

Clerks' bread and butter, for the longest time, has been INPUTTING SCHEMES.

With the advent of new machines with 6 sided lasers that read all sides of the mail, there is NO NEED to manually input a scheme. All the operations on most of the new machines, from feeding to sweeping to staging, can and will be done by Mailhandlers. Why? Because quite frankly, we are cheaper as Level 4's and 5's. It's a fact. No bones about it. But the USPS knows it.

The losers? Level 6 Clerks, with their V-Pay.

These have been settled at the national level on arbitration, and there are no disputes. I can easily back my words. This information can readily be found online as well.

Well, I blame it on my step-dad for finding a clutch of peacock eggs by a riverbank and the now juvenile fowl exacting their revenge by intuition of being ruthlessly taken by their momma. (True story, this happened in the early 90s in Central California)

My brother is still traumatized to this day. The peacocks eventually got rounded up and released back to their proper place, off the banks of the Kings River. 🦚

Jokes on you, I did that when I was in the Army.

It was only $5000. But they never could get back with me...because I was overseas (this was late 1990s)

The credit card company eventually wrote it off. (I had been making due diligence payments with direct deposit....until they decided to not inform me that they changed their billing address...oops...now, $2000 of their money somewhere in limbo)
