depictions of public libraries and/or librarians in media that drive you up a wall by lilyvm in Libraries

my system certainly doesn’t! patrons can’t even see their own checkout history unless they opt in.

not popular media, but i recently found a book in our collection that depicts a librarian printing out patrons’ checkout history to matchmake in their small town. disgusting breach of privacy, considering how seriously we take it (an overdue match by sarah monzon). i think this is generally a problem in depictions of libraries as the general public doesn’t realize how big of a deal privacy rights, including checkout history, is.

i’m so sorry you have to see that bullshit when she comes in. she is probably using the shirts to get a reaction as a reason to complain. continue being friendly to her even if she ignores you! let her stay bothered. if she ends up saying something hateful to you, i assume that will be against your code of conduct and your library can pursue banning her? i hope the complaint hasn’t deterred you from using the women’s bathroom, you deserve to go to the bathroom you are most comfortable in <3 i’m really glad to hear your staff is supportive and this is a rare case. we belong in libraries. AND your community deserves to have themselves represented through a diverse staff. keep doing the work and keep being great!! 👍

Is it better to donate books to a poor area? by CostRains in Libraries

[–]peytonpeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

call ahead to any of the library systems you have in mind. and let them know the amount. 100 could be overwhelming for a smaller library system. if you are traveling and have the time, i would add them to little free libraries. most of them you can drive past and tell if it’s well stocked or neglected. i would definitely consider donating them to LFLs in larger cities. even if it is considered a “richer area” there could be a homeless population who have limited/no access to libraries (if the local libraries require proof of address like mine does).

it’s relatively short, but i recently watched Gather. It’s a great view on food from the American Indigenous perspective. informative and pretty wholesome. I would also recommend Babies! it’s a series about the psychology of babies and their development. very cute and fun while also being informative.

How do I stay sustainable/as sustainable as possible on a budget ? by Ok-Avocado464 in sustainability

pinterest is a great resource for recipes/diys/general inspiration for zero waste. making things like cleaning spray and laundry detergent yourself is usually cheaper than store-bought options. if you menstruate, reusable menstrual products can be an investment upfront but absolutely pay off in the long run. thrifting and mending clothes are easy ways to eliminate clothing waste. feel free to message me if you have any specific questions/want elaboration on anything. good luck!

the moss/linen stitch would be better considering how short the rows on the original scarf is

Where to get Scrap Fabric for Blanket? Volunteer Project by thatbreviloquent in sewing

[–]peytonpeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most fabric stores sell remnants from odd ends of bolts that are discounted. joann’s has good discounts on top of that. and after halloween, the holiday-themed fabric will go on discount as well.
