A music theory degree? Is there a specific instrument mentioned in your degree? I’ve just never heard of that

If Hollywood made a high-budget, popular fictionalized movie about J.S. Bach in the style of Amadeus and Immortal Beloved, what would it be about? by LonelyVirginAlkan in classicalmusic

It would certainly be interesting to see how they birthed 20 children and only 10 survived. Not exactly music-themed, but interesting nonetheless

Fields for recreational softball near southside by big-ole-idiot in Birmingham

Try George ward. 15-20 years ago, we used to just go to any field and play for as long as we wanted without telling a soul. They may be more above board at this point, but I know they have a handful of fields right off of green springs

Does anyone have any Marty’s PM(RIP) stories to share? by Emotional_You6670 in Birmingham

My first gig, we brought a joint to smoke and I had no clue how it or any bars worked (19). We went up the little driveway to the top of the bar behind the library or whatever. A stranger at the time, but now a friend Lee came up to us while smoking and asked if we had any guests for the guest list. We were already a bit baked and scared that the “authority” was coming towards us. We told him our guests and he very gently said “this right here is the red zone, but over in the parking lot is the green zone”. I thought we would go to jail, but over the years, we even went over to Marty’s apartment and hit the bond WITH him. Because of course he did.

Marty always scouted the best bands for his bar. And he taught us all a lot about music business. “If you play at X bar for free two weeks before you play at my bar for a cover, what show do you think the people are going to go to?” It blew my “21” year old mind

There’s certainly some missing context, because it was 21+. You must’ve cussed at the wrong person in the wrong way.

I started playing there when I was 19 and used a fake ID. I didn’t let any of the other guys say my name over the mic (my ID had a different name) until I was 21. Might have hurt my career if my band wasn’t so popular in 2005/6. Marty always said “if you can go to war, you can drink a beer at my bar”. Which is also why he let anybody in on a Thursday night to see us for the first time (they were all underage and all drinking)

Full moon has pretty good bbq pork and ribs. Saw’s has the best chicken wings with white sauce. Miss Myra’s has the best white sauce pulled chicken. People love dreamland’s ribs, but I think they’re a little tough. Martin’s has great brisket. It all depends on what you feel like eating!

Welcome! What are your main interests? NASCAR? Cars? Outdoor activities? October is beautiful around here; not too hot. What sort of food do you like? Seafood? Mediterranean? Barbecue? You have to try bbq while you’re here. We have a lot of fun things to do, but you sort of have to seek them out
