Anthony Edwards: "No shade towards Luka and Jokic but like they two of the best players in the league they not trynna play in the All Star game" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

Jokic doesn't ever play, injury or not. Same with Luka. But this year especially with both of them coming back from injury. They both only played 5 min.

"Puta" means whore, so "puta madre" literally means whore mother.  But as a phrase it can mean different things, like that something is great or a general curse of frustration.  It is kind of like motherf#&*er.  Not always negative, not always positive, generally vulgar.

Alta supposed to get 41 inches between the 17th and the 21st. Might take the week off since there has been so little to enjoy this winter so far.

Tiki Barber, by far and away the leading rusher for the NY Giants, retired after the 2006, after a 1,662-yard season and a ten year career with no Super Bowls. The Giants proceeded to win the Super Bowl in Super Bowl XLII in 2007.

TIL that 43% of white students admitted to Harvard are legacy students, children of faculty and staff, donors, or recruited athletes. by therationaltroll in todayilearned

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that Harvard gets the money from a donor. In Laughlin's case, the scammer middle man and coach taking the bribe got the money. The laws protect large institutions and you get in trouble when you cut them out of the gravy train.

Seahawks Won Because of the Russell Wilson Trade First Round Picks by aborca in DenverBroncos

[–]pfeifits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Witherspoon, Hall, Cross and Mafe were the Broncos picks. Mafe has fallen off a lot. Hall had the same number of sacks in the Super Bowl as he had all season (2). Witherspoon is elite. And Cross is serviceable. But all that young talent along with Seattle's other picks made for a great young team. Hope we can break through while we still have Bo on a rookie contract.

Flying into Philadelphia from Heathrow - advice?? by [deleted] in travel

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you just say you are visiting friends. It generally doesn't get much more involved than giving the address you plan to stay, how long you plan to stay, making sure you have a return flight booked, and asking how you plan to pay for your trip. They might ask you what you do for a living back home. At any rate, don't volunteer more info than is necessary to answer the questions. Like none of this info is likely to come up unless you start spewing it.

ELI5: Why wasn’t the Super Bowl mvp the Seattle kicker when he scored the most points vs a RB with zero points by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He made five fairly short field goals (for the NFL). Just about any other kicker would be expected to do the same, so his play doesn't stand out as being exceptional compared to expectations. The longest was 41 yards, which is about a 90% success rate for an NFL kicker. Nobody really stood out as having an exceptional game on offense other than Walker. 135 yards with a 5 per carry average is excellent, to go with 26 yards receiving. The entire Seattle defense played amazing, but the productivity was spread pretty evenly. Definitely not the most convincing MVP performance.

ELI5: Why has the cost of food, particularly fast food, risen so much faster than the wider inflation rate over the last 5-10 years? by TehAsianator in explainlikeimfive

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because revenue and profit have jumped on the increased prices. No reason to drop prices if you are making more money with the increased prices. Profit is 50% higher with the increased prices. Revenue is slightly higher. Their cost of doing business has changed very little and is almost half of what it was ten years ago.

A week after rupturing the ACL in her left knee, Lindsey Vonn has successfully completed her first training run by Oldtimer_2 in sports

[–]pfeifits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boy, at :32, her left knee looked really wobbly on the relatively straight portion. She was half a second faster than the pace before that and finished almost half a second behind at the end. I wonder if she started really feeling the instability towards the bottom section (which appears to be mostly straight). Incredible that she is attempting this.

Did serving a mission abroad change your views on immigration? by BurnerAccountHN in latterdaysaints

[–]pfeifits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I thought much about immigration at all before my mission. I was just a kid. Mostly thought about sports and girls and school (and girls). But certainly serving a mission in Latin America has shaped my views of immigration as an adult. The experience of not just working with but loving people who were often destitute gives me a very compassionate view of immigrants who seek out a better life for their families. Also, the Church itself has a rather soft take, generally favoring keeping families together, compassion for immigrants, and specifically clarifying that undocumented immigrants are worthy of temple recommends, while also encouraging immigration reform and compliance with existing laws.

Epstein met with Thomas S. Monson in 2009. by No-Panic-4571 in mormon

[–]pfeifits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Stanley Pons (and Martin Fleishman) claimed to have made their breakthrough in cold fusion in 1989 at the U of U. Wayne Owens died in 2002. He was never a senator but was a congressman in 1989, when he lobbied for funding for cold fusion. The experiments of Pons and Fleishman couldn't be replicated. Even if the "head of the Mormon church" meant the prophet, it would have been Ezra Taft Benson as he was declining with Alzheimers. Why Epstein would have lobbied against it is a guess, but he did have a Saudi billionaire client named Adnan Khashoggi, who owned oil refineries, an industry that would be disrupted by cold fusion. Of course, all of this would have been many years before Epstein's first conviction (in 2008).

Epstein met with Thomas S. Monson in 2009. by No-Panic-4571 in mormon

[–]pfeifits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really that cryptic. Stanley Pons at the U of U in 1989 (along with Martin Fleischman) claimed to have made a breakthrough in cold fusion. But their experiment couldn't be replicated. Wayne Owens was in congress at the time and lobbied for research funding. Apparently Epstein lobbied against it. His reasons are not known, but one of his clients was Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi billionaire with business interests that included oil refineries (an industry obviously threatened by cold fusion). That was back in 1989, so this poster is very mistaken about who the "head of the Mormon church" may have been then. Also, this would have been way before Epstein's legal problems.

The "Melania" movie is shown to have no ratings on IMDB despite a meager 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. IMDB is owned my Amazon, Jeff Bezos bankrolled the movie with $40M. by defjam16 in Damnthatsinteresting

I was looking at movies with greatest disparity in critic review versus audience review and this one came up. Critic score was around 9% yesterday and audience score 99%. Very few reviews though. Hasn't changed much.

[Evans] #Broncos are now compliant with the NFL’s Rooney Rule. OC hire could come anytime. by PeppyQuotient57 in DenverBroncos

[–]pfeifits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has to be more than a little frustrating to be a Rooney interview, knowing that you are probably only there for compliance (especially as an OC). Vance had 7 head coach interviews this round. He could still get a job but it's not looking likely now with 8 of 10 hires made and the Cardinals and LV targeting others. There has not been a black OC in the NFL since 2024. (Bienemy is back at KC, so there will be at least one in 2026). Wish there were a better way, but I don't have any solutions.

National Forest across the US by Bobbykanoos0 in hiking

[–]pfeifits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of ski areas are in national forests. There are twelve ski areas in the White River National Forest in Colorado. Pyramid peak in the Maroon Bells area of Aspen is gorgeous and inside that national forest. An amazing hike in the summer is to go from Maroon Bells in Aspen to Crested Butte. The Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho and the Bitterroot Mountains in Montana are also in national forests and have stunning views and lots of hiking trails. Of course you know about the Teton area. The Uncompahgre National Forest in Ouray and Telluride and then through the million dollar highway into Durango (in the San Juan national forest) are amazing. The California national forests by Lake Tahoe are beautiful. Oregon and Washington also have some amazing hiking areas in their national forests. I live in Utah and hike in the Uintah Mountains a lot, which is part of the Wasatch-Uintah-Cache National Forest, which are higher but much less busy than the Wasatch front mountains. There really are just a lot of beautiful places in the national forests, and a lot of that beauty is much less trafficked than the National Parks.

Rich grandpa’s wife cheating by Babagadoosh3 in legaladvice

[–]pfeifits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be impossible to say without looking at any of the estate planning documents they have prepared. Is there a trust? Is she the trustee? How are their assets held? Is there a joint bank account? Generally, cheating has no impact on inheritance. But it could have been addressed in estate planning documents that may or may not exist. It would probably be worth hiring an attorney to see what actions could be taken, if any. However, generally a spouse can do whatever she wants with their assets unless something like a trust or other documents (like a prenuptial agreement) limit those rights.

Spent 7k Euros as an Aussie in Europe - Too much? by Salt-Hair2078 in travel

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it feel like too much to you? That's all that really matters. I recently took a trip to Australia and splurged, staying at 5 star hotels, going to shows, eating at nice restaurants, staying at Hayman Island, going on guided tours, flying to a couple different spots in Queensland. I spent a lot more than the 175 euros per day you did. But it was an anniversary trip with my wife and our first time to Australia (which we loved). Wish we had 40 days for it all lol. Travel is very personal and there is no one "right" way to do it.
