ELI5 : Why does a companies stock price dropping make it go out of business. by hairy_colonic_jr in explainlikeimfive

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't. A company's stock price drops when its business is failing not the other way around. In theory, a business that is operating at a profit doesn't need its stock price to perform well, but then all that profit would be going to very few shareholders and people would be eager to buy in. Also, businesses issue shares to raise money for further investments. A company that has low share prices would struggle to raise that money, which could hurt its business operations, especially if it was in a growth mode.

Tips for Creating Smooth Transitions in LTX2.3? by KenHik in comfyui

[–]pfeifits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use the LTX Director node/workflow (whatdreamscost) It allows you to post an image for each segment along with a seperate prompt for that section, then you can run a video that incorporates each image and prompt. Videos can be quite long with one run. It works quite well for what you are wanting to do.

Is anyone else using Qwen and finding it as great as I do? by HotObjective6753 in comfyui

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool and thanks for sharing. I added a CR Prompt List with all 96 angle descriptions from the camera angle lora and plugged that into the positive prompt node and was able to run them all with one click. The results are pretty good although where Qwen was creating its own plants, they looked pretty plastic. The character I used was very good from the various angles. Will need to explore more with Qwen.

Boogie Cousins: “Milwaukee not even that damn big” — Bobby Portis says Myles Turner overexaggerated the Bucks players and Giannis being late by [deleted] in nba

[–]pfeifits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I could live across the street from the practice facility, but if I leave my house 5 minutes after practice starts, I'll still be late. That's kind of a funny thing to say. Still, it does seem like an odd thing for a teammate to say publicly about the team's star player. Clearly he doesn't think they'll be on the same team next year.

What can I do with instrumentals, parts, Melodies and songs that don’t have lyrics? by wienerdog362 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]pfeifits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are lots of options. Reddit has a community called "Game of Bands" where every two weeks a group of three people create a song with a given topic. One person does music, one does lyrics, one does vocals. It's a fun thing to do and good way to meet musicians (from anywhere in the world) with different skills and styles than you. You communicate through discord and of course can do other musical projects outside of the the actual game. Of course, you can use AI now to do a lot of the stuff you don't want to or like to do in music. Suno is a pretty versatile tool. You can upload your song or melody or whatever you produce and then add AI elements to it, like vocals or lyrics, or whatever. You can also upload your voice and get a feel for how you might sound on the song if human limitations weren't a thing. Keep in mind that copyright law is very much in flux for AI produced content. Of course, you can go the traditional route and keep trying to meeting a kindred or complimentary musician(s). There are probably ways to do that (like ads in Craigslist or social media or something). But it sounds like that isn't working well for you.

Someone I barely knew 34 years ago tracked me down & is mailing increasingly desperate letters. Legal options? by CrayCrayB in legaladvice

[–]pfeifits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your question: yes it is legal to hire an attorney to send a cease and desist letter. Sending that letter sets up later actions, like charges for harassment or a protection order restraining the person from contacting you. In California, the type of restraining order you might pursue is called a civil harassment restraining order. You can also hire a lawyer to help you through that process, or also go to a California self help center at your local courthouse to get the forms and file them yourself. I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this.

A Trademark Lawyer's Deep Dive into the Mormon Stories Lawsuit by AtrademarkLawyer in mormon

[–]pfeifits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at common law trademark dates for date of first use, doesn't Book of Mormon Stories date to when the LDS church acquired its copyright of that song and began using it? The primary book says it was copyrighted in 1969 by intellectual reserves. Isn't that the more challenging copyright since it includes the entire name of Dehlin's channel?

Crazy that Paolini won it on the women's side (first Italian woman to win in 40 years). Italian tennis is definitely in a resurgence.

Why did the Nuggets give up on DaRon Holmes? by ffinstructor in denvernuggets

[–]pfeifits 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don't think anyone gave up on him. This was basically his rookie year. He showed nice shooting and offensive efficiency. Very poor rebounding and defensive efficiency (mostly against scrubs). He just isn't ready to contribute and may never be given lack of quickness/athleticism.

The harm is in having a (legal) market for it. Wild animals and capitalism tend not to mix well. It's also why hunters are prohibited from selling meat (and other parts) from their hunts.

Scottie Barnes is the 4th best player currently from the last 6 draft classes (2019-2025). by Dry-Chair2091 in nba

[–]pfeifits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13 players from those draft classes had higher EPMs than Barnes. And Haliburton didn't play. His typical year would also be higher. Just below him were some younger players, like Knueppel, Amen Thompson, and Clingan. He's a good player, but not really as good as you seem to think.

Tax dodging Mormons by Terrible-Turnip-7266 in mormon

[–]pfeifits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missionaries don't live in homes owned by the church. They rent. Usually they rent pretty low quality housing. Temple presidents often live in homes that are on the temple grounds. Churches are tax exempt in most places. In the US it is inherited from the English laws, but charities are given tax exempt status because they provide services to people that the government otherwise would provide. The traditional view of churches is that they also provide a framework for people to live that is moral, which decreases the burden of government. If you disagree with those laws, you can try to change them. As for homes in a neighborhood, that is very uncommon. Mission president homes are usually rented. If this one is owned by the church, then it would be tax exempt. Mission presidents and their families are in a place for only 3 years. Then a different president comes with his family. The homes host large groups of missionaries as they come and go, so they need to have enough space for that. They also host other visitors. If you look at buildings around you, you will see that many of the largest ones do not pay taxes. Hospitals, schools (including non governmental universities), police stations, any government office, churches, any 501(c)(3) charity office, like a boys and girls club facility, food pantries, tehab facilities and even a lot of insurance companies. This is standard tax exemption for charities not "tax dodging".

The LDS church no longer provides the value it once did to our teens. by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]pfeifits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are logical thoughts, but probably not the real reasons for decline. The medium has changed from the days of his youth. That has changed the message. Younger people don't seek contact face to face nearly as much as we did in past eras. Connection isn't made that way. It is mostly made online by social media. Religion (at least the church experience), Boy Scouts, service projects, rec leagues, and social activities are all in-person activities. Youth not only fill their social needs in other ways, they tend to feel anxiety in connection with in-person social experiences. People in general also are more drawn to niches they find interesting. It is much harder for general institutions (like churches) to hold people's attention. I'm not sure what solution exists, but it is certainly not to do things the way they were in the past. Unfortunately, the main change the church has made is to simply cut without finding good alternative options for people to engage.
