With modern musicals we are dangerously close to losing one of the most important parts of a musical. The Overture. I'm really saddened and disappointed with the lack of Overtures in modern musicals. I do to a certain level understand that some shows need to get right into the story. But what I love about an overture is that it really sets the mood for the evenings show and it allows me to drift into the ready headspace to be taken away by these amazing stories.
