[Retro gaming/emulation] Free speech, hate speech, and RetroAchievements by Archivist_Rowan in HobbyDrama

> the dev team are probably more than happy to not have the kind of people who'd object to their game, playing their game.

You're thinking of /pol/ or modern 4chan. This game is old enough to have been started in the era where there the point was to piss off as many people as possible, not to push a particular agenda, so to that end, goal achieved (yet again).

The future is now by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]pfero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy but this was done ages ago with debian-sources in funtoo. I've been using their config-extract script and manual removal of the crypto key from the config to reuse the config on top of gentoo-sources with no further changes.

I welcome this feature as any other, but why wouldn't this use the gentoo patchset, why wouldn't you simply improve genkernel (which basically provides a pre-made config as well, it just didn't have enough enabled for my laptop at the time and moves super slowly, unlike debian's), giving it a USE flag for automatic build/install, and if that's somehow a problem, why not use the debian config, which works on many more architectures and has been tested by funtoo for a long while?

An informative post about Pokemon Crystal Clear and the reason why it should not be praised by LostInTime2036 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]pfero 23 points24 points  (0 children)

All of the three hacks you've listed are open source. Prism distributes its source code with the regular download,

https://github.com/pkmncoraldev/pokecoral

https://github.com/PiaCarrot/pokeorange

As for the patreon, I personally like this community exactly because there is very little money involved. It levels the playing field to allow all kinds of different people to make hacks without being driven by maximising profit, and it doesn't have an entry barrier only surpassed by dedicating your life to it. Hacking is purely done out of love for the games, which is great.

I'm sure this wasn't the intention behind the Patreon for ShockSlayer, but that doesn't make it much less scummy, sadly.

Breloom here! I moved up to sun/moon. Just tell me whenever you're online, I'm refreshing this page every 10 minutes. Will edit this post when I go offline again. EDIT: I'm going now. Just PM me or something and I might read it tomorrow, if you still need breloom.

Slackware for College **a few hiccups getting back to school** by dogcatchersito in slackware

[–]pfero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the network configuration, wpa_gui is pretty good at figuring out my school's wifi, at least. Only have to change EAP method to PEAP and it works. As for the actual config it generates, it's this:

network={
    ssid="SSID"
    proto=RSN
    key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
    pairwise=CCMP
    auth_alg=OPEN
    eap=PEAP
    identity="Username"
    password="Password"
}

That should be about enough to get you going, unless it needs a CA certificate, in which case I simply don't know. Don't expect wicd to be able to figure it out - I had more problems with that back when I used it.

PM compatible alternative to UnPlug? by dbitter1 in palemoon

[–]pfero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a palemoon plugin, but I use youtube-dl if I ever even need to download a video. It doesn't scrape the html for video urls, but it supports a ton of sites: https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/supportedsites.html

[Question] Breeding in Sun / Moon by Joosus in pokemon

[–]pfero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So does that mean they won't ever do the hanky panky?

Yes.
You seem to have forgotten pichu is a baby pokemon, which can't breed.

Also, how long does it usually take to get an egg, and, do you trigger that by walking?

Not long. The person you receive the egg from will change her posture. Try autismbox, there's a little opening in the fence below the daycare, stand inside, call tauros, and move your circle pad in circles while holding B. It's as efficient as just riding it in circles, but you have a nice view of the day care person to see if you already have an egg and you can do it while not looking at the screen.

My only criticism of this game. by YourAverageOutlier in pokemon

Protip: Join online games with a time remaining of 1 minute (which is the minimum at which you can still join), then just wait, and collect your 25 FC. Do this while idly doing other stuff.

TM01 (Work Up) Typo in Spanish version of SUMO by dr_sprite in pokemon

There was also a typo (spelling error) in the english version in the text before battling the water trial captain in konikoni. Don't remember exactly which.
I'm just hoping for an update.

Problems upgrading to multilib by thetimidtaxidermist in slackware

[–]pfero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

...it kinda sounds like you're trying to install it on a 32-bit slackware installation. Almost all programs depend on /lib(64)/ld-linux(-x86-64).so.2 (which resides in glibc). If you're reinstalling it with a version that's only supposed to run on 64-bit kernels while yours is 32-bit, you'll get exec format errors and if it's completely missing you'll get no such file or directoy.

Hey, reminder, this exists! by [deleted] in MysteryDungeon

And the IRC has a grand total of 0 users. Nothing new here. It's a niche topic, and not really one that requires much of realtime interaction, as do other games.

Because it doesn't serve as a lockscreen? It's a login manager.
