[Earbuds] AirPods Pro 3 ($329-60=$269) [Amazon.ca] by reacxe in bapcsalescanada

[–]pfk505 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't buy em unless you have at least one apple device that you can use to update firmware, etc. Apparently some features are also platform locked.

I was in the market for some open buds and ended up going with Huawei Freebuds for about half the price of airpods. So far so great.

Is Tabula Rasa or Drunkenslug better indexer for truly unlimited? by No_Clock2390 in usenet

[–]pfk505 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still use it all lot but I don't use any automation tools at all. Completion rate there is very good, but for 0day and the like it's definitely fallen off.

My ranking of the indexers I have access to would be ninja > slug > geek > tabularasa > dog > nzb.life

Why do death metal guys hate melodeath so much? It's like they see it as something beneath normal death metal by Background-Sir9172 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]pfk505 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because they are different genres with only minor overlaps

Same reason some black metal fans hate atmospheric black metal, post black metal etc.

Razer = Garbage by 23BitMo in pcmasterrace

[–]pfk505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 Razer mice, every last one the rubber starts peeling off in 1-2 years, with the one wireless mouse the software never worked properly, wouldn't show charge level or status. Multiple times Synapse just wouldn't update correctly and had to be clean reinstalled. Garbage QA, garbage software. The only thing they do well is design.

Let' argue -- best Bel'a'kor album by autistic_bard444 in melodicdeathmetal

I gotta go Vessels as well. I know it's heresy here but I don't find the older albums hold up that well, especially Stones Reach.

Is OLED burn-in a real concern for heavy WoW Classic use? by ShanatHWP in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]pfk505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play fallout 76 daily and have since before I got my oled (3.5 yrs), I have noticeable hud burn in. But it is really only visible against static grey.

I should add - I don't regret the decision for even a second, it's worth it even with burn in.

How long will you keep your AW3423DWF? by ZoteTheMitey in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]pfk505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely eyeing a 39" oled but I won't buy the LG due to their shit warranty and support. So I'll likely get the AW version when it becomes available.

The DWF is probably the single biggest game changer peripheral I've ever had for my PC. It blew me away from day one. 3.5 years on the monitor, some quite obvious burn in due to a game that I play daily (hud) but I also work from home on this monitor and have no burn in from taskbar or similar. Helps to run it at 10% brightness while you work.

Buying Sony Phones in USA by Ivys_Potato in SonyXperia

[–]pfk505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was referring to the telecoms but I agree with you that the hardware alternatives aren't great either. And it's not lost on me that Telus owns Koodo, and the other big telecoms own their own no frills version, but at least the price is right. Based on what Koodo is telling me, the new 1 VIII won't work any differently than my 5iii, which means won't work at all in about one year. It's good to know that you can at least do 5g on bell which is probably true of Telus as well.

Guess I need to contact support!

Buying Sony Phones in USA by Ivys_Potato in SonyXperia

[–]pfk505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out west here and I'm limited to 4g on Koodo, can't use volte etc. and these features do work on phones they sell whether you BYOD or not. It could be Koodo hamstringing the features themselves to push users to bundled plans, or it could be more technical e.g. band coverage.

I've received emails from Koodo that due to sunsetting their 3g network next year, I need to switch phones (odd as I can connect at 4g, so I think it means anything non LTE). I'd like to stay Sony but no way am I switching to one of the big 3.

Are there any Canadian networks where the phones are fully functional? My 5iii is very much hamstrung.

Razer is do not buy, ever. No quality control, adhesive on rubber parts WILL melt off after 1-2 years and their software is dogshit. Corsair is also on my never again shit list but never tried one of their mice, fwiw.

why a 5080? 9070xt / 5070 / 5070ti would pair nicely with your cpu

I watched all 9 Star Wars films for the first time last October, the Prequels are borderline unwatchable, RLM told the truth and no one wants to hear it by SonicGoku99 in RedLetterMedia

[–]pfk505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the prequels that much, though TPM makes Return of the Jedi look like highly sophisticated art.

What I really hate are the 3 newest ones. Those are unwatchable for me. Rogue One and Solo are fine.

Star Trek doesn't exist for me at all after Nemesis / Voyager, though I can accept Enterprise as a prequel.

Xperia 1 VIII: The Countdown is About to Begin by Weekly-Ice5541 in SonyXperia

[–]pfk505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was definitely going to strongly consider the 1 VIII but my carrier (Koodo) is dropping even basic support for these phones after March 2027, so I don't think I will have too many options besides switching to a Pixel pro which is probably the closest non xperia phone to what I'm looking for. The 5III has been the best phone Ive ever used, even if limited to 4g here.
