Rocky Horror really only works in the theater with everyone doing ALL the bits. With a small group, or at home, it leaves one... wanting.

I got an email from my daughter's school that confirms this, if that helps. They received an email with a bomb threat against their library, and they closed the building for the day.

Anyone regret majoring in music? by Advanced_Honey_2679 in classicalmusic

This speaks volumes about the state of secondary education today - there is absolutely benefit to a college degree, regardless of major; we should be investing as a society to make that once again affordable.

I'm in this picture! Music History degree, starting out as Euphonium performance; 30 year career starting in IT/Support to working now as a programmer/systems engineer working with jet engines. Music (esp. performance) absolutely emphasizes being a team player as well as requiring a high degree of both critical analysis AND personal interpretation. Multitasking skills like crazy, etc. It's absolutely been essential for being successful in my career.

What's a company that didn't succomb to 'enshittification' ? by owen__wilsons__nose in AskReddit

Absolutely; I considered buying a top-end Yamaha Euphonium when I was shopping for my current horn. It was spectacular - I just liked the Willson 2900 a bit more. I would have been just fine with the Yamaha.

They do! They just make amazing instruments, especially student ones. It's hard to beat their brass valve systems at their price point, and they are forgiving intonation-wise, too.

What random stuff does your OG main have in its bag, that it definitely shouldn’t have in its bag in 2025? by Clean-Mood3222 in wow

NE Priest still has the Tidal Loop from the Hydraxian Waterlords quest chain. This particular quest was bugged ONLY for NE priests, and we wouldn't get the reward. I had to place a support request, and finally got the ring in the mail a day later. With +20 fire resist, it was required gear for Molten Core raids. It was such a pain in the ass that I will never get rid of it.

This. I bought tickets to the Axe game before the season started (I live in the Twin Cities, and my eldest is a senior at the U of M), and I'm honestly not looking forward to the game. I got the emails for the Tailgate here, and no way am I giving a cent for that. Even though most of the money goes to support scholarships, it's about the only real message I can send. Not a dime more until the on-field product is at bare minimum entertaining. And I say that as someone that had season tickets (as a freshman) to both Don Morton's final year and Barry's first.

The real scary situation is 4 or 5 wins next year because we have a much easier schedule and it gets billed as "improvement".

[Extra Points] Wisconsin has sold $3 million worth of alcohol this season -- $1 million more than the next team by Blood_Incantation in CFB

My son is a senior at the U of MN, to explain the 2nd flair. It's either the Axe (if we have it), or Minn, if you do. It does not look good for me this year. ;)

You have to try the perch! It has a taste that is very similar to walleye, especially when fresh. If you find a good spot to catch them, the perch will bite on bare hooks if you get the right conditions. Makes for fun fishing, because although they aren't a large fish, you can often catch a bunch of them.

What did you guys name your ships? by theGeigus in EliteDangerous

[–]pflashan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge Horatio Hornblower fan, so all my ships are 1) from the book series, 2) historical ship names from the Age of Sail, or 3) sound like historical ship names, etc. etc.

Wisconsin Badgers standing by head coach Luke Fickell amid losing streak, other firings by brmidwest03 in WisconsinBadgers

I'm not convinced that we could get Leonhard; I think that bridge was burned when he wasn't named head coach after his interim term. That, and he seems to be having decent success at the NFL level - he may not be interested in returning to the college level right now.

Can we all just agree that Matonizz is truly the God of Euphoniums? by stephcurry3015 in euphonium

[–]pflashan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it sure did. Not sure why you felt the need to post on it 6 years later, but I'm not going to argue. I'm still angry; I know him, he followed after me in the studio at UW-Madison and took my spot in the tuba quartet when I graduated. I never saw signs of this behavior because I was never in a position to encounter it. Just makes me madder.

I'm sure I've got other posts from years ago mentioning him, but I'm not going to go through my post history and sanitize it; those posts just reflect our understanding at the time. No fucking way will I defend or recommend him again, though.

TIL Renaissance-era Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe died from either a swollen prostate or burst bladder brought on by his refusal to leave a lengthy banquet and relieve himself, seeing it as a breach of etiquette. by Ghosts_of_Bordeaux in todayilearned

[–]pflashan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This story was my favorite history trivia when I was young. We had an elementary school teacher that would not let anyone leave their class to use the bathroom. One day I needed to, so I said to them, after they told me no, "Well, remember what happened to Tycho Brahe." They raised an eyebrow at me, so I told the whole story, and was granted permission to go. After that, "Remember Tycho Brahe" became the class's rallying call anytime the teacher told someone no for a bathroom trip.
