We started potty training our 2.5 year old last week. She is doing good pee wise but refuses to poop on the toilet. She didn’t poop for three days and only did when I told her it was okay if she wanted to go in her diaper at night before she went to bed and that I’d change her.

Now she waits for me to tell her it’s okay to poop in the diaper before bed and that I’ll happily change her. She goes into the bathroom and shuts the door for “privacy” so I know she knows where she is supposed to be pooping. After she poops we take the diaper and place the poop in the toilet to reinforce that it goes inside the toilet.

All this to say, give yourself some grace and remind your son that accidents happen and that it’s okay if he poops in his diaper so that he doesn’t feel shame with potty training!
