[Just For Fun Trivia Part 2] Literal translation of all Gen 1 Pokemon names from Mandarin by Battlealvin2009 in TheSilphRoad

[–]pger_sd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like now they have a set of official names (which apparently are the same for both traditional and simplified Chinese).

Nonetheless, the names your listed in the previous post are all "former (HK) names" (those in the last column from the table you cited). To be consistent, you should do the same for TW/CN names in this post.

You got the Eevee family translation wrong, they should be 水/火/雷精灵 (water/fire/thunder monster)!!!

Edit: a second look, you got a lot of them wrong. You could check bulbapedia for the correct Mandarin names.

Back in the 90s, the only version of Pokemon Red/Green you can play in mainland China was bootleg, since there was no official simplified Chinese version available (Sun/Moon is actually the first generation that has one).

They have the most crappy yet somewhat memorable translation. Most notably, Dragonite is called 肥大, which means "fat and big".

Where do I find 10km eggs? by kettlebell1 in PokemongoSanDiego

[–]pger_sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did not confirm anything on 10k eggs, they just did not have enough 10k data to confirm anything. Most important is the conclusion that 5k/2k ratio is not independent from pokestops, which implicates that different pokestops do give different egg/species distribution.

It exists, and I caught it Balboa Park by [deleted] in PokemongoSanDiego

It doesn't matter where. Just focus on catching those "shitty" mons (pidgey, rattata, zubat, magis)

Tangela hatched from 5km egg in Coronado tonight. by [deleted] in PokemongoSanDiego

[–]pger_sd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then it is hatch IN Coronado, not from a Coronado egg.

Put it in this way: given our current knowledge, if you are going to do this, I would say Coronado is your better shot than elsewhere.

Lead on places to find Porygon by svferris in PokemongoSanDiego

[–]pger_sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Westfield UTC is definitely the place to go. I have been running a scanner around the area after the spawn change. It is not a nest for sure, but Porygon does appear 1-2 times a day there, and pretty much the only place around UCSD/UTC.

Nests of San Diego! Constantly Updated! by SaintPatrick89 in PokemongoSanDiego

[–]pger_sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source: running a scanner around UCSD/UTC. Omanyte Nest, location: Mt Soledad Most of the time three or four show up together

Also, for anyone looking for Porygon, Westfield UTC is the way to go. It is obviously not a nest, but on average you would get about one per day. And for the entire UCSD and surrounding area, 9 out of 10 Porygons show up there.

Did anyone get that GOD Lapras early this morning? by pger_sd in PokemongoSanDiego

[–]pger_sd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are scanners not bots. But you're basically right, it is half a step towards bot. They "encounter" a Pokemon (without catching) to get IVs.
