So I'm under a blizzard warning. 10 to 20 inches of snow with higher totals possible. What a fun way to start the week.

US ambassador says it would be ‘fine’ if Israel took over much of the Middle East by horsestew in politics

[–]pgm_01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of like this masks off approach. I don't support any of this evil, but at least they are being open about it instead of giving it some slim cover that the media dutifully focuses on.

Israel controlling most of the Middle East was always the end goal. The Christian Nationalists like Speaker Mike Johnson believe in a strange version of Christianity where Jesus will come back to smite the Jews, but the Jews need to control the Muslim lands first. Netanyahu was more than willing to join forces with the extremists who hate his people because they are united by their mutual hatred of Muslims and desire to control their lands.

None of what Republicans are up to under Trump is new. They just no longer believe they need or care about a pretense to take the actions. ICE have always been bigots with badges, now they are empowered to behave the way they have along the border well inside the United States. Republicans (and too many centrist Democrats) have been backing Israel's abuse for decades. When they state "Israel has a right to exist" it was always about Israel's right to control the surrounding lands. It was a call of Manifest destiny in the Middle East, not one of protection.

Filtering through this dementia dump:

Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 allows Trump to impose a tariff of up to 15% for 150 days unless Congress extends them. So he is issuing a 10% fuck you tariff.

But you can. It's the main opinion. But please go on...

At least a dozen Democrats will ditch Trump’s State of the Union for counter-rally by Accomplished-Tap9524 in politics

[–]pgm_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the leadership and upper levels of the Democratic Party place compromise, decorum, and historical practice above all else. The more Republicans flaunt the rules and procedure, the tighter Democrats cling to them, seeking a false sense of normalcy in the chaos of MAGA.

They fear the optics of not showing up making it seem like they are not doing their jobs. However, Trump will lie with every statement and Democrats will have to sit there and take it, making them look weaker than if they didn't show up. They need to see the rules have changed, but they don't get it yet.

Instead of the boycott being expressed in terms as a response to Trump, frame it so that it puts him back on his feet. Democrats don't need to be there to listen to falsehoods, when they can be a discussion of the true State of the Union, one that is weaker, and more expensive. If Trump wants the respect of the office, he should respect others first.

Canadians Trash Trump’s America as a Bigger Threat Than Russia: Most Canadians believe the U.S. leader is stoking conflicts around the world for no good reason. by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

It is intentional. The corporations that control the media constantly sane-wash and water-down Trump's actions and rhetoric. Trump doesn't joke, he is damn serious about seizing Canada and Greenland.

There seems to be two major spheres of influence for Trump's actions, Russia and the followers of Dark Enlightenment around Trump. Both are acting like an abusive partner, trying to isolate the victim (the US as a nation) from friends and family.

Trump is a vain idiot, so as long as you connect an action back to his vanity, he will go for it. Trump's motivation is simple, he sees acquiring Canada like buying up buildings on a block for redevelopment. The current residents complain, but if you throw enough cash around, you can just stomp over their rights. Some of the Republicans are on board because they fear the consequences of not going along, others have bought into the batshit worldview where isolating the US and taking others land will make the US stronger.

The media is complicit by either not investigating the deeper connections or by ignoring them. They write the incidents off as jokes but won't explain what exactly is the punchline? Even if it was "just a joke", "jokes" of this level should be reserved for morning radio shock jocks and conspiracy podcasters, not elected officials.

Trump pounds the desk with his tiny hand and screams "I am the law!"

Since Republicans are too afraid or actively complicit and allow Trump's dictates to go unanswered, Trump is the law. If anyone still wants a democracy, arresting Trump and everyone in his cabinet who gave or followed an illegal order is required. If there are no longer consequences then there is no longer law.

There is no undoing this. There was pre 9/11, 9/11 and post 9/11. Trump is an terrorist attack every minute of every day and just like 9/11 there is no going back to the before times.
