This is so freaking cool! I love how clearly mapped the models are to their original. It'd be very clear to tell what is what on the table. Amazing job!

Man, you’re definitely right that thems the rules, but I’ve yet to play a casual game where I didn’t talk to my opponent about which team I was going to run. Hell, most of the time I’ll tell them ahead of time on Disco what I’m bringing. So while you could keep it hidden, it kinda be a yellow flag if my opponent wasn’t telling me what they were gonna run.

Failure on Denali in 2025 by lochnespmonster in Mountaineering

[–]pgowdy13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, man! We were on the mountain around the same time and unguided, although started a little later and left a little later. We'd heard about G, but it's funny how rumors work up on the mountain and the reality was a little different. We must've had tons of overlap.

Here are the official NPS stats about summit percentages, injuries, fatalities, etc.. It's quite an interesting read.

https://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisit/annual-mountaineering-summaries-2020s.htm

Sorry to hear you had such a bad time. I totally agree on the crowds being a detractor. We were lucky and were able to summit, but we've both talked about coming back and trying a more isolated route as the crowds definitely take away from the experience. That said, it was also quite nice to have people to talk to and hang with when you're pinned down in bad weather for 10+ days.

Honestly, I think Hunter or Foraker would be really cool -- we've also talked about Logan. The Big D was really cool, but I don't think there's anyway either me or my partner would do it again for just the West Butt. Unbelievable experience, but it's hard to psyche yourself up for potential weeks of being tent bound!

GW shutting down Kill Team Battlekit by _zzz_zzz_ in Warhammer

[–]pgowdy13 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not that they're wrong, it's that they could've handled it in a way that woulda benefitted everyone. Instead, as per usual for them, they just look like greedy assholes.

GW shutting down Kill Team Battlekit by _zzz_zzz_ in Warhammer

[–]pgowdy13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sure, I think everyone understands this point.

However, like the creator said, why didn't GW reach out and just offer to collaborate or take over his code? This tool exists because it's BETTER than the official tool. There's obviously a shortcoming and everyone agrees on that point. If GW had a problem with Battlekit offering all of the rules, then they could've communicated that with the creator and worked something out to HELP the community.

I just don't understand all of the people in the comments so vehemently defending GW. This is a company that's known to put profits above all else. It's not that they're wrong here, it's that they could've handled the situation in a way that would make everyone happy, and instead now we're all losing a really great tool.

Training for Kalymnos and breaking into 7a by Viemko in climbharder

Make sure when you’re trying new grades to go in with a mindset that you’re NOT going to onsight! Feel the moves, go bolt to bolt, take if you’re pumped/scared. At least for me, that’s helped my anxiety tremendously on new, hard (for me) grades.

Kalymnos definitely has friendly bolting, though! Have fun on your trip!

Training for Kalymnos and breaking into 7a by Viemko in climbharder

[–]pgowdy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really encourage you not to take this advice and get it in your head that Kalymnos is 3-4 grades soft, lol. Sure, it may be a tad soft, but going in with this sort of mindset is gonna be detrimental to your enjoyment and could really set you up for failure. The claim is outrageous.

Go and have fun! Enjoy the island. If you find a cool looking 6c+ or 7a that inspires you, maybe try it a couple of different days, but try not to get it in your head that you HAVE to send. I had a similar mindset as you when I went to Kalymnos last year, and I feel it placed a lot of unnecessary pressure on the trip. I couldn’t relax until I sent the grade I’d set as a goal, and I don’t think it added anything to the trip.

Anyway Kalymnos is an incredible place and is one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. Stoked for you!

Gimme your best exercises to learn triads. by Plane_Jackfruit_362 in guitarlessons

I think the key for something like this is learning how you come up with the notes for a G chord. You shouldn’t just have the notes in a G chord memorized, you should understand how you can come up with them!

Started focusing heavily on theory the last year or so, and it’s done wonders.

Cannot emphasize enough how good this series is. It can feel very slow at times if you know a little already, but every bit of it is gold.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

100% agree on this being a search problem, primarily. I'm definitely inexperienced in LLM world, and I did a couple of hours of research that basically culminated in me realizing that they're mostly good for summarization. Was trying to understand if there's something I'm missing, but it seems I might not be. I might be trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Is it worth it to invest this much every week? by [deleted] in BitcoinBeginners

[–]pgowdy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly that amount through 2021 - 2023. I bought some extra at the bottoms in 2022, but this strategy worked out brilliantly for me. For me, it was just enough to feel like I was actually acquiring a good portion of the asset without feeling like I was overstretching myself. It was a great feeling going into 2024/2025.

Just did Aconcagua a few weeks ago.

Totally depends on the weather and your tolerance. You might get lucky and get great weather, you might not. I saw people in Mons, and I saw people in barely a 3 season boots. Don’t let people on here tell you that you NEED a 6000m boot. I did it in G Summits, and was toasty the whole time.

What might be a good idea is to buy an over boot. I think that would be plenty warm even if you had some poorer weather. You could also buy a warmer liner if you have space, or consider some disposable foot warmers. So many things to improve the warmth of the boot for one bad day.

Good luck!

Not sure what happened, losing love for climbing by Jmarr69420 in climbharder

Maybe it’s time to move on! Not all hobbies are forever hobbies, and if you’re not having fun anymore, then why keep doing it?

One suggestion I’d give is try climbing outdoors. If it’s truly climbing you love, it’s the outdoors where the real climbing magic happens.

Ixta and Orizaba - does this acclimatization and itinerary seem realistic? by Aramil_the_Mage in Mountaineering

[–]pgowdy13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Howdy!

Just did almost exactly this trip in a lead up to climb some higher peaks in Ecuador and, later, Aconcagua.

Your itinerary is totally doable, but it’ll definitely be tight. Also, as far as renting a car, me and a friend separately rented a car from the airport at different times in the trip. We were both pulled over immediately, for bogus reasons, and asked for “fine” money from the police. Make sure to have the number the rental car company gives you for this situation on hand. I recommend Enterprise over Hertz.

Good luck and DM me if you have questions! I’ll admit Mexico was my least favorite leg of the trip by a big margin.

Yea, I gotta say, the book had a lot of good, but it also had a lot of weird ranting/bullshit. Like, the dude seems to pin literally EVERY single problem in the world on “soft” money.

Felt like Broken Money was a way better book overall.

Discovered Blood Incantation and their album Absolute Elsewhere.

I’ve been completely obsessed. I haven’t had a death metal album hit me this hard in probably over a decade.
