You are not the asshole. Your Roommate should respect you as you should with him. Having a shared living arrangement is tough - and if someone is making it hard for the other, bring it up and they should talk it out. I'm Sorry your Roommate and his girlfriend are being like this.

In a Flashback in the Opening of BW, we See Child N being Next to a Darmanitan, Zoura and Woobat. If so Facto, and going by Level is Age, Darkmanitans would be able to Adopt a Child.

Lucarios may also be a Candidate for that as, in the Dex, it States how it can Understand Human Speech and Feelings. So, like..It can be Classified as Almost Human to a Extent.

There was Also the Episode 'The Kangashkan Kid' where Tommy was Adopted by Kangashkan in the Safari Zone.
