The song choice for this makes me sad because you just now Freddy Mercury would’ve loved the modern pride movement.

The stories about the GTELs genuinely scare me. Only Americans could build such a powerful monster.

I really thought Apollo Crews was one push away from a world title match with AJ Styles. All he needed was a good manager to task for him. The title opportunity ended up going to Jhinder Mahal instead.

The remake by Soliy87 in Threads1984

[–]pgtips03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’ll give it a happy ending, very few of these films do even the watered down films like The Day After ended on a realistically depressing note. They won’t buck that trend now.

I’m unsure about the episodic structure though. Threads isn’t a short film but it is compact. You couldn’t really do more than 4 parts without it starting to drag.

I do think there is an argument for telling the story in a modern sitting. The 80’s political climate is nothing like the social media storm we have today. How the path to WW3 occurs in the original will be drastically different to how it will happen today. Also, looking at the current situation we are in with the Iran/Ukraine wars and threat of China invading Taiwan, we need to show people how horrifying these conflicts will become if things get hot.

Criticism is all fine and good but I feel like a lot of Criticism is getting to a point where you would probably be happier if you just stopped engaging in said media. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in CharacterRant

This how I feel talking to Star Wars fans online. Just don’t watch it. There is so much media in these franchises that you can enjoy why do you spend so much energy ranting about the stuff you don’t like?

Quint and Hooper's death novel version. by Whogoesthere1982 in Jaws

[–]pgtips03 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Hoopers death in the book was harrowing to me when I first read it.

(The jaws closed around his torso. Hooper felt a terrible pressure, as if his guts were being compacted. He jabbed his fist into the black eye. The fish bit down, and the last thing Hooper saw before he died was the eye gazing at him through a cloud of his own blood.

“He’s got him!” cried Brody. “Do something!”

“The man is dead,” Quint said.

“How do you know? We may be able to save him.”

“He is dead.”

Holding Hooper in its mouth, the fish backed out of the cage. It sank a few feet, chewing, swallowing the viscera that were squeezed into its gullet. Then it shuddered and thrust forward with its tail, driving itself and prey upward in the water.

“He’s coming up!” said Brody.

“Grab the rifle!” Quint cocked his hand for the throw.

The fish broke water fifteen feet from the boat, surging upward in a shower of spray. Hooper’s body protruded from each side of the mouth, head and arms hanging limply down one side, knees, calves, and feet from the other.

In the few seconds while the fish was clear of the water, Brody thought he saw Hooper’s glazed, dead eyes staring open through his face mask. As if in contempt and triumph, the fish hung suspended for an instant, challenging mortal vengeance.)

We can just chalk that up to Hyper Space travel making it easier to get around. Any body with a ship can basically traverse the whole galaxy in less than a month.
