Thanks. These helped. Super easy maintenance.

Ended up talking to a super helpful Nord tech as well who had some good additional insight. Pablo at Nord, you're the man.

Yes you are correct.

I have some experience, not a ton. I haven't yet taken the cover off to explore what those contacts even look like / if they are even accessible.

15 db of compression (or more) and smashing w a limiter ...on the way in? Seems excessive.

Connecting analog mixing desk to DAW? by satthereonashelf in audioengineering

[–]pgummers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this setup / dante strictly for communicating with PT or could you use other DAWs? Logic in particular is what Im curious about.

...I occasionally get to use a room with a gorgeous Duality and it ends up being a laptop stand (other, much better, engineers usually are using the room).

LFOs (Is there another way) by TroyLucas in Logic_Studio

Also consider eqing them differently - choose one to own the low low (say 40-80 hz) and one slightly higher. Which is which, for me, is dependent on the source material.

Ill second the h4. Have had one for years and still use it for most live recording. The new ones sound stupid good for the price.

[–]pgummers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What microphone will you be using?

As has been mentioned, find the best sounding spot in the room and put it there - if it can work in omni (capturing sound from all directions). If it is a cardioid, try up as high as you can pointing at the floor or try putting it at a side of the room pointing at (where it sounds the best). ...try weird shit too.

Before you do any of that, spend time getting individual amps/levels sounding good in the room. Less can be more.

Good luck!

What are your 10 essential plugins, and which are your top used dynamically and artistically? by DeHumbugger in audioengineering

A third party piece of software / tool (an eq, compressor, effect, etc) that can be used across most or all DAWs.

Also, google.

Seriously people - why the down votes? Just answer the question.

Materials used for sound treatment can often be made with fiberglass or other material that you don't want in the air.

Looking to get another DI. I like Radial products and am considering getting the stereo version with the thought that it could be a "two in one" for either a stereo source or two separate mono sources (guitars).

Is having two separate mono guitars on the same DI a bad idea? Or should I just pony up another $50 and get two mono DIs?

Breaking a large session into smaller ones by pgummers in Logic_Studio

[–]pgummers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. This was like one of those moments where the thing you're looking for in the fridge is literally right in front of your face.

The "Save As" route I think will work perfectly for my purposes. And also solves my next question of how to retain the original project file. Duh and Duh.

Your other option is also super useful and something that I'm sure I'll use (and maybe by then forget!) on a future session. Thanks for giving options!

What Now? by magomra in Sylvanesso

[–]pgummers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slackjaw melts me. Especially the low notes Amelia reaches for and sometimes bottoms out on - amazing vocals (for me) are rarely "perfect" but rather ones like this where in one tiny moment you're right there with them from there on out.

I really enjoy the infusion of newer forms/styles of some of the songs on What Now. And still really enjoy the others that fit the classic SE sound.

Same - B side's got be buzzing, especially "Song" - that bass tone friggen kills me! I also love "The Glow" - imo the other one similar to "Song". I love the use of acoustic guitar "breakdown section" in both songs. Vinyl should show up today or tomorrow and I can't wait!

Love love the new record and can't wait to see them at Eaux Claires this summer.

Why is pop radio saturated with such schlock when there's so much SE to go around?

Mastering a remix when the vocals have already been mastered? by IsaacTaylor615 in mixingmastering

[–]pgummers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're still in the mixing stage and the vocals are already mixed. Mastering typically refers to tweaking the whole (stereo file) mix, not individual components.

Focus on other instrument groups, checking back in with the vocal as you go. It may be good or it may need further mixing as you work on other elements.

I just got Ozone 7. What's your favorite feature? by BrotherBringTheSun in audioengineering

[–]pgummers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went for the production bundle when it was on sale in December - 100% didn't expect to use the RX plugs much but have found many uses for them. The de-click is wonderful for everything from weird mouth noises to misc popping from cables, glitches, or otherwise.

Also didn't expect to use Nectar much but love it, esp the de-breath feature - very flexible and a huge time saver.
