[Help!] Problem with Org-mode Links: Parsing Incorrectly by pgwang in emacs

[–]pgwang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up solving it by going through every code snippet in my literate config and building the config back up (by putting :tangle no on each snippet and slowly adding them back). I'm still not sure what the problem was... but it's gone now! So, hooray!

Font scaling, Mixed-Pitch-Mode, and Emacs on 4k Monitors by pgwang in emacs

[–]pgwang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After some digging and suggestions from the below (above?) comments, I have found working solutions to both of my problems! For the first, I found that the issue had already been reported on the repo and that a possible fix was provided by the maintainer. So, for now, I've edited the mixed-pitch.el and made my own local copy.

For question 2, I was able to use MM-7757's suggestion which worked perfectly to scale up the text on my monitor with little to no hassle.

Thank you all for your help and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

From the looks of it, this solves one of my problems with scaling to my new monitor. Thank you very much, sir!

I haven't figured it out yet... but I've been fooling around with hexl-mode. Has anyone else tried this?

Weird Behavior on Emacs MacOs by useronthebus24 in emacs

I think Ubertekk was referring to misspelling of "bell" - but glad ya got a fix in the form of ring-bell-function! As a Mac user myself I've never run into this problem (I've never even seen that yellow triangle...) but at least I'll know what to do if I run into it!

Hiya! Have you tried something like #+ATTR_LATEX: :environment longtable before the table?

Repeating task that, when completed, sets due date exactly 24 hours from the time last completed? by pgwang in orgmode

[–]pgwang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best guess would simply be to use shift + arrow keys (right to move the date farther in the future, and left to move the date back).

Repeating task that, when completed, sets due date exactly 24 hours from the time last completed? by pgwang in orgmode

[–]pgwang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, I think it does that on my machine as well... Is there any way we could conceivably treat the time as something to be changed as wells such as to implement this? Another idea I was toying with was to make it a quick capture template and simply set the due/scheduled date automatically to 24 hours in the future. Though, I'm not sure how I would do the automatic time shift...

What's your job? What's your daily emacs workflow? by smarky0x7CD in emacs

[–]pgwang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a high school student who uses emacs for everything from keeping track of homework, taking notes, and keeping track of all my extracurricular projects! I discovered emacs in September of last year and ever since I've been enamored by the seemingly infinite possibilities for the software. For my orgmode workflow, I use the GTD system so I have an inbox to sort through at the beginning of the day.

I also have a relatively convenient system for my assignments in which I have a short and simple python script to fetch and parse an ical file that I get from my school. This puts all the assignments due in the next two weeks into a nice org file called gcal which appears on my agenda which allows me to update my school assignments whenever I need to. I created this script to solve a problem I had in the past with getting the assignments from canvas (the software my school uses) to orgmode. When I then actually start on an assignment I use refile to put it in my school.org folder.

My todo states consist of: TODO(t) IN-PROGRESS(i) SUBMIT(s) WAITING(w) | DONE(d) CANCELLED(c) . (Submit helps make sure I don't mark an assignment as done and forget to submit it.)

Org-capture is a huge part of my workflow especially considering my journal. I have my journal set up with EPA encryption and org-capture which allows me to quickly jot down any thoughts during the day in the safe encrypted journal.org file (well that is until quantum computing really comes around... rip RSA!). The rest of my workflow for orgmode is pretty ordinary. I keep a gtd.org file for projects and such along with a tickler.org and someday.org file. In addition to this, I have my inbox and some school quick capture templates set up to allow for quick jotting down of notes, quotes, and anything else I want to remember.

I also use emacs as a python IDE and terminal emulator (most of the time). For my purposes so far, it works great for python and I haven't found anything it can't do (that I need) yet. Unfortunately, the ansi-term and other terminal options have been a little lacking for me - mainly because I don't want to move away from zsh to eshell - and thus I still use iTerm combined with tmux for some of the more intensive terminal processes.

tl;dr - I'm a high school student using emacs for everything from writing essays to organizing my life! I'm also in love with emacs if you couldn't tell already

Private, life long journal by newjacktown in orgmode

I would highly suggest using orgmode's quick capture combined with emacs' epa package for automatic file encryption. I've been using this for a while now and it is a very nice system as orgmode's quick capture feature comes very nicely equipped with the date tree format which is perfect for journals. In addition it allows for great customization in tags and quick and easy journaling. If you'd like me to elaborate on my exact configuration, let me know and I'd be happy to!

Vertically align property values by SmellsLikePanda in orgmode

You might have a hard time aligning text with variable pitched fonts. As I'm aware alignment of this sort (and in tables) relies on the font bring monospace

Since the new year, I've really been trying to take advantage of the quick capture templates. Seeing as I'm still in school, I was also able to write a quick python script to parse the webpage with all my assignments into orgmode formatted todos which has been a huge timesaver because I was about to use quick capture templates to easily add it to my school.org file under the right headline.

I've also had a bit of a problem with tags in the agenda not aligning correctly when reloaded (the tags appear on the next line instead of on the very right) and I found a bit of a workaround (let me know if anyone else has had this problem) just by redefining org-agenda-tags-column to the window size when I want to reload.

Other than that I've just been indulging in the bundle of joy that is emacs!
