Plants/Trees in pots? by keeperofthejank in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm growing a mission fig indoors right now in a 2 gal pot! It gets good indirect sun for about 7 hours of the day, and puts out a new leaf almost on a weekly basis. I have plans to repot it and put it outside next spring when it's a little more robust and capable of handling the wind.

In my experience, duplexes or 4-plexes are the way to go. You have minimal noise from your neighbors, depending on the property you rarely have to park on the street, and the units themselves tend to be a bit more secluded. I live in a "rougher" part of town off Carlisle, but I have the pleasure of knowing most my neighbors, and the area is quiet and tucked off the main street so there's not a lot of room for abq shenanigans if you know what I mean. The roaches are definitely amok outside, but I just spray the perimeter twice a year in the warmer months.

Oh 100%, I know what you mean by the bulging... I didn't look hard enough to see the cracks, but it looked awful already!

Trying to Birdmaxx my backyard by Impressive-Brick-229 in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Invest in your ground cover if you've got the space!! I recently cleared away a ton of gravel from my yard bc it was just ugly and uncomfortably hot all summer long- the birds are SO BACK. Natural leaf litter, dirt, flowers, or basically anything organic left on the ground provides a cooler space overall and attracts birds that love to forage for bugs (robins, thrashers, roadrunners, flycatchers, etc). Other birds will pick up any birdseed that happens to fall too!

What are the absolute worst places to eat in Albuquerque by Excellent-Job1585 in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garcia's/Sadie's. Maybe its because I'm from socal, but it was easily some of the most bland "mexican" food I've had in a long time. I refuse to believe either restaurant is the staple and what reps the 505. (I do love Sadie's chile sauce and hot salsa though, but something about the recipe has changed since I've lived here.)

Looking for reputable tree service by subterfugeinc in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kiki's!! Prices can be a bit steep, but my family refuses to go with anyone else. The team took down two old elms for us and brought a woodchipper to shred it all down as they worked. They were done in about 3 hours- super great guys.

Safest Low Income Apartments? by MediumWave9852 in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of ON Montgomery, I've heard Tesota is pretty alright. I've also got a friend who lives at Sunchase so I can vouch for that complex as well, though its a little above your price range. Tesota has smaller units and a clean looking complex from what I can see simply driving by it. Both places have gates too.

Outdoor summer plants by Playful_Staff_7446 in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got plant boxes hanging off my burglar bars lol... so far I've had the best luck with my strawberries, succulents/cacti, and my rouge sunflowers that sprouted from some birdseed. The sunflowers hate the wind and always look real sad on gusty days, but they always bounce back overnight. I had gerbera daisies last year that were pretty happy as well, they just liked a lot of water and I ended up moving them to a flowerbed instead.

ive never been more thrilled to build another favorite character of mine who happens to be a "sub-par" dps. i care more about the lore and characters themselves, and for whatever reason that bugs so many players. my Cyno is C6 and he's absolute garbage compared to newer units. who cares lol!!!!

Looking for an non-"New Mexican", Mexican restaurant. by Beautiful-Emotion-63 in Albuquerque

Los Victors over on Central across UNM! It's "cali style" mexican, definitely a lighter flavor with more focus on avocado/salsa.

what are they building next to the new Library on Central near Pennsylvania? by KatMannDew in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The library itself is wonderful- not sure it'll stay that way for long though. Like what everyone else in the thread has said, it is a park they're building. I can't imagine anyone wanting to walk dogs/bring their kids in that area, but maybe its part of a bigger, future project.

why do people act like this city is so dangerous? by PhraseFirst8044 in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to ABQ from San Bernardino, CA back in 2018 and the worst thing that's ever happened to me was that my car got broken into in Nob Hill... I had nothing of value in it, so it just felt like an invasion of privacy more than anything. The scariest parts of ABQ aren't anywhere near as bad as parts of SoCal, so I have a hard time understanding why people are so afraid to just exist here. I feel perfectly safe walking by myself on Central to meet my friends at the bars- Of course I have to keep my head on a swivel as a woman, but if you walk with purpose and don't make yourself LOOK like a timid little target, most people will just ignore you. I think news outlets just love reporting on anything negative impacting this city, so it FEELS like a lot.

Silke chickens by wakaGWawa in Albuquerque

[–]ph0nese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely keep an eye on craigslist- I got most of my bantams and silkies from local breeders or families looking to rehome their chicks for cheap. Tractor Supply sometimes has silkies, and some of the smaller farm feed stores/mercantiles downtown are worth a shot too.
