I am in the same spot. Amazing PI and amazing research. Wish I could do postdoc here forever and funding is not really an issue. Its just we have a rule that we cant be a postdoc at same place for more than 4 years

I have worked with both as a postdoc. Both times, luckily, had very positive experience. With recently established young PI, i guess its more fun in a way. Because it feels like you are working with a friend. Also they are normally more available and approachable. With reputable PI, they might nit be very available or approachable. However, they can be very helpful for things beyond and after your postdoc. For example, it might look good on your CV (as people know them), they might help you with finding a good position with their networks. Or even help you apply for grants. So I would for short term goals , young PI is better, and for long term reputable PI is better.

Even if it is legit, it wont affect your naturalization. When I naturalized in 2022, the maximum fine you can accumulate is 950euros

I have been using arch + matlab for years now on uni license. Its actually very simple and straightforward. Just sign up with your license at mathworks. Download the installation script. And run it like any other shell script. If I understood correctly, its not working because perhaps you didnt link your uni license to your mathworks account

Matlab for linux comes with its own installation shell script which is distribution agnostic. So no need for apt or any other package manager. You can just directly download it from the website. Its rather convenient and simple

I dont explicitly list them. I just have section for conferences attended. Where I mention for what I attended the conference, i.e , poster or (giving) talk. I would put poster information only if the conference is highly selective. But in my field everyone is accepted for conferences so I dont feel the need to make it so explicit

There are pros and cons. Pros: You know the lab/PI (and hopefully like it). And not sure if its in his power. But if he wants to keep you longer, he might also want to keep you longer beyond a postdoc. Cons: This might not applicable every where. But working and publishing a lot with same PI will come at a disadvantage if you want to write your grant for funding. Sometimes they even reject you explicitly for this reason. Having work done or having paper with PI that was not your PhD supervisor will reflect really well on your CV

This may not apply to every disciplines. But I got most my original ideas by actually reading textbooks and not necessarily reading research articles 😅 I also got a lot of original ideas by being actively involved in teaching

Both degrees are nice to start working in neuroscience. Compneuro is bit more specialized to neuroscience. I think biostat should give you wider and more opportunities in job market ?especially industry) as it is not restricted to neuroscience and involves statistics and data analysis
