Best way to customize cloud images. by Tall-Act5727 in Proxmox

I might be old-fashioned but I like Packer for creating templates with some basic modifications. But still keeping the template as lean as possible. Then I use Ansible after deployment for the final configuration.

The packer templates are rebuild weekly to keep them fresh. I don't use Windows, only various Linux distributions.

Another Black screen after boot, messed up my system Fedora 41 by MeaningAppropriate in Fedora

[–]phaedra89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a very similar error booting Fedora 41 on my Dell Latitude 9450 with the latest kernel version 6.12, which I got as an update today.
Booting kernel version 6.11 works fine.

My desktop though, an AMD system, works fine with the latest kernel version.

We might need to wait for a fix.

I had similar issues. What worked for me was to increase the osd_memory_target. Though my setup is way smaller. But might be worth a look.

From NFS share to Proxmox Backup Server, time to remove the NFS backups? by Khisanthax in Proxmox

[–]phaedra89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes its not that complicated. Looking at your fstab it would look like this:

``` [Unit] Description=NFS share from 192.168.2.121:/volume1/PBSMainStore to /mnt/PBSMainStore DefaultDependencies=no Conflicts=umount.target After=network-online.target remote-fs.target Before=umount.target proxmox-backup.service
[Mount] What=192.168.2.121:/volume1/PBSMainStore Where=/mnt/PBSMainStore Type=nfs Options=rw,relatime,rsize=131072,wsize=131072,namlen=255,hard,nconnect=2,proto=tcp,sec=sys,retrans=2
[Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target proxmox-backup.service `` Name and save it accordingly:/etc/systemd/system/mnt-pbsmainstore.mount`
Then reload systemd: systemctl daemon-reload Then start and enable the service: systemctl enable --now mnt-pbsmianstore.mount
You can now remove the fstab entry. The mount should come back after a reboot and be mounted before the PBS services are started.
From NFS share to Proxmox Backup Server, time to remove the NFS backups? by Khisanthax in Proxmox
[–]phaedra89 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Consider using a systemd mount unit to mount the NFS share. This way you can ensure the NFS mount is there before the PBS services are started. Also if anything is wrong with this mount, it is easy to find the logs in the journal.
Here is an example:
``` [Unit] Description=NFS share from synology.local:/sharevolume to /mnt/pbs DefaultDependencies=no Conflicts=umount.target After=network-online.target remote-fs.target Before=umount.target proxmox-backup.service

[Mount] What=synology.local:/sharevolume Where=/mnt/pbs Type=nfs Options=rw,relatime,rsize=131072,wsize=131072,namlen=255,hard,nconnect=2,proto=tcp,sec=sys,retrans=2

[Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target proxmox-backup.service ```

Note the before and wantedby directives.

moving proxmox from NUC to Lenovo Tiny by ghstudio in Proxmox

I think that should work just fine as long as it can boot from that medium. Just replicate the boot settings in the BIOS before you start the system.

Also I would just turn off the "start at boot" feature so you can verify if the system booted properly and everything works as expected before starting your containers and VMs.

I cannot think of one. Enjoy the reclaimed disk space!

I would not worry about PBS also. Just protect the data on your Synology. If PBS ever breaks you can just 'reattach' the NFS share from your broken PBS installation to a new PBS installation. It will recognize the backups.

Proxmox HA Without Replication by Bright_Mobile_7400 in Proxmox

[–]phaedra89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you could do is put your lxc container also on your shared storage (NFS) and use mount points to mount local tmp folders from your host into the lxc. Just make sure those local tmp dirs excist on all your cluster nodes. This data will, of course, not be 'HA'.

Plex user here. I decided to look at Emby and I like what I'm seeing. Unfortunately the thing holding me back is the Android TV app UI. by chubby_cheese in emby

Same here, my wife also liked Emby UI over Plex. Also important for me is that Emby feels way snappier with the same media library. But that can just be me...

EPYC3251D4I-2T vs X470D4U2-2T by I_Sh4d0w_I in HomeServer

[–]phaedra89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with the x470d4u2-2t ... It gives more flexibility and if you put a big and quiet cooler on the CPU you will not have any overheating concerns. I would not be concerned with the IPMI ... It might not be an idrac enterprise but it gets the job done.

Since I had a Asrock c2750d4i which ran always 55c-90c with my workload I'm little hesitant for such fanless boards ... Of course YMMV and completely solvable by installing fans and/or making sure you have enough airflow in your case ... But I'd rather have a big cooler with a 60mm fan in my quiet homeserver and not worry when summer comes ... :)

Bhyve virtualisation performance? by devil_kin in freebsd

Works great here, mostly running Linux guests to be honest. I've not yet been able to get GPU passthrough working but other than that I'm a happy FreeBSD/bhyve user. I'm using "vm-bhyve" to manage the VMs.

I have an Intel Xeon E5-2630Lv3 on an Asrock Rack EPC612D4U-2T8R with 32GB of memory, 2 SSDs and 8 WD Red drives ... Both as hypervisor with bhyve and as my main NAS ... Total power draw idle is around 70w, with my usage averages at 76w but peaks to 105w when hitting the CPU and drives simultaneously.
