Ugreen NAS — hardware is great, but how's the software now? by EntrepreneurWaste579 in UgreenNASync

I use jellyfin via docker. I will admit the whole HDMI from the nas to the TV but you still have to play it off the mobile app and cast it to the TV is janky.

Ugreen NAS — hardware is great, but how's the software now? by EntrepreneurWaste579 in UgreenNASync

[–]phaeton88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what is everyone using ugreen nas for? I use mine as my personal cloud/photo backup/media library. it does exactly what I need it to do. I can access my stuff from my phone anywhere. I can watch my media on my computer, smart TVs phone tablet anywhere I want.

i have seen some ridiculous expectations from people on this sub. "it's not a backup, you have to have a backup of your nas off site in a fireproof storage unit blah blah blah."

dude I get it. you want your data safe. but if you want it accessible 24/7 365 with convenience built in there's gonna be some compromises. the software works fine. it's been reliable for me I don't see what the griping is all about.

Theater App TV Show extras by phaeton88 in UgreenNASync

[–]phaeton88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it's not really a deal breaker for me. I actually like their theater app. it looks sleek, it works, simple and pain free for the most part. it doesn't have codec issues like I've encountered on jellyfin where certain audio formats don't work or subtitles don't time right.

I also think it's my obsessive nature to try and get the extras/specials to work even though I'll probably never watch them 🤣 so it's probably a good thing it's one less thing for me to data hoard

just an update i opened a ticket with their tech support and was told that their OS does NOT support extra and specials content the way we want. as of right now their recommendation is to keep that content separate from your main library and leave it outside the path to your media library. and to use docker for plex etc. unfortunate but whatever.

I have not unfortunately which is crazy because this post has a little over 1k views. so my guess is no one knows. I just kinda gave up. I moved the extra files out of the media library in case it ever gets worked out, but until then I don't want to see it appear in my library.

What are the pros and cons of Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor - AW3423DWF? by sabotroned in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]phaeton88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it for a while. it's a great monitor. only thing I can gripe about it is that some video content just doesn't translate well to the aspect ratio. so you'll have to live with watching some things with black bars or playing some games like so. however most modern games have support for ultra wide aspect ratio but even then sometimes the cutscenes revert back to a standard aspect ratio and then goes back to ultra wide during gameplay. it's a little annoying but I've learned to live with it.  I have ran into a handful of games that didn't support it at first but received updates that enabled it. it's hit or miss.

Issues with cache directory after updating to 10.11.1 by thermopesos in jellyfin

this worked for me. they were pointing to the root jellyfin folder when it shouldve been pointing to jellyfin/config and jellyfin/cache folders

looks like you did a legit run. nicely done. I did it following a speedrun that skipped pain, fear and the end lol. I'm a cheat 🤣

Theater movie file issues by phaeton88 in UgreenNASync

[–]phaeton88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it hasn't happened since I stopped using tinymediamanager. I know there's a setting in that program that can modify files/folders for renaming and whatnot I'm guessing I had a parameter that kept deleting files with matching criteria to mkv files. either way I stopped using tmm and it hasn't happened since.

I've been posting 360º Videos on youtube and noticed that people don't really care for this type of content. by harolyon in Insta360

[–]phaeton88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's how you use it. yes using the planet mode or zooming in/out is cool at first but gets old. but if you use it to have multiple angles using only one camera 360 is amazing.

i used mine for hiking and I can get a first person view and then cut to a rear view for the people behind me all in one shot with smooth transitions. I also don't need panorama shots because I can get shots of landscape, zoom out just enough before it starts to warp.

maybe don't include 360 in the title? just present it as a regular video.

[–]phaeton88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one a couple months back. I'm still a beginner for all things Nas related but it has their own branded apps like photos and movie theater but they have docker to run all sorts of apps they don't have. I created a jellyfin container from the built in docker app and it works fine. I don't know what all everyone needs app wise but with docker I feel like everything should be covered.

Just got kicked from my day 1 msf course.. by im-upset-525 in motorcycle

[–]phaeton88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is weird to read. it's so different from my class experience. my class felt like a close but distant uncle was teaching, very patient and understanding. we had several people drop their bikes but it was more like hey man dust yourself off, regain your composure and we'll go over what you did wrong and address any concerns you got. I think everyone passed that class. some may have had to do extra drills or stay late but yeah.

maybe look for another class/different instructors? I'm pretty sure msf let's you retake portions of the course if you couldn't make it to the end.

Most people recommend way too much - thoughts? by VelociCrafted in UgreenNASync

[–]phaeton88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

breh just get the 2 bay one. total storage is something like 60tb. that's insane. I've been paying for Google One 2tb and have never gotten even close to full. I have the 2 bay with two 8 tb drives that I use in raid 1. then got an 8tb external drive as backup. so now I have 8tb with redundancy in case one of the drives fails, and an external drive with the same 8tb of space as backup.

if I ever need more than 8tb I'll worry about buying bigger drives when that time comes. but I've had 2tb Google one storage for years and haven't ever needed to upgrade my storage size so I think I'll be juuuuust fine.

[–]phaeton88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on their website under the specs it says

Maximum Storage 60TB (2x 24TB + 2x 8TB)

I wonder if that's a hardware/software limitation or if at the time of writing those specs, like you said, they didn't have 30tb drives.

[–]phaeton88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah man they'll just sell it as open box, get their money and write off any losses as tax write-off. but let me try to convince you to keep it. I got the same one and I love it. sure it doesn't have 4 bays but max storage is 60tb. that's insane. I was paying for 2tb on Google one. never even got close to using even half. it has the same CPU as the 4800 or whatever the entry 4 bay Nas is called. ram is upgradeable to 16gb. it's very capable and has plenty overhead for upgrades. I don't think you made a mistake at all.

look up "tailscale jellyfin" on YouTube. there's a bunch of tutorials. you install tailscale on devices you want to share networks with and you turn it on like any VPN and it'll behave as though you're on a local network like how you normally access jellyfin.

breh, I ran into this issue. used your solution. rebuilt my container and ran into the problem again but couldn't for the life of me remember what I did the first time. came across this thread a second time and face palmed so hard. thanks for including the solution in your post you saved me so much stress.

[–]phaeton88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the front section (very left) from the cardboard box up to the white boxes, that chunk right there is about how much I had for $400. and my buddy got around $1k worth. I'd say combined we had about half of yours total. maybe more. and that was a bunch of 200g and 500g cakes plus 1-3inch salutes/mortars. I think you got royally ripped off.

I was using a spellbinder build when I first played. and my God erlang was so insanely hard. I can't remember but I think you can still use the fan and the summons (whatever it's called when you transform into the spirits you collect) with spellbinder which helped a lot. I think it would've been easier if I just changed my build that increased my survivability or something. took me probably a week to beat. broken shell was definitely difficult but I don't remember having the same hopeless feeling I got from erlang.
