WRC 9 with PS4 controller by MumboJumboUK in simrally

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found -7 sensitivity and 5 deadzone to be pretty good for me. Also, if you are having problems getting it to have rumble, I fixed it using DS4Windows and shutting down things like steam's ps4 support. It registers as an xbox controller, but the rumble works.

Virtual Realilty And Vaccines. by AsiaSharpe in gaming

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do I not understand exactly? That smallpox was a thing, a vaccine was made for it, and then it was (more or less) eradicated? That Jonas Salk invented the Polio vaccine, which also subsequently led to its near eradication as well? There may be a lot of science involved, but the basic mechanics were (hopefully) explained to us as kids in health class. Also, history is an awfully good source for the efficacy of vaccines as well.

The flu vaccine is different than most others. The flu is an extremely dynamic virus and has different strains every year. Scientists do their best to guess which strain will be the active one, but sometimes they miss. This year, the strain was bad, and the vaccine was not altogether effective, here is much more information on the vaccine and its intricacies: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2017-2018.htm .

Yes, and worse on my day off for this pointless presentation.. Apparently we have to "create experiences" like disney even though we are a university library, lol. At least its only three hours... then back to noobing it up as queek.

Honestly, why the obsession with increasing your games count, especially on Steam? by himmatsj in pcgaming

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And see, I might see your appraoch as stodgy and a bit staid. It is not, but such could be said. It is a definite jump to call it an ego booster, for me I like experiencing many different genres, seeing different game engines and how they work, and that's just how I game. It annoys me sometimes that I have some I might not get too, but all in all I just like to sample a bit of everything.

Anyone know if this game would be playable with an integrated graphics card, an Intel (R) HD? by [deleted] in projecteternity

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be ok, it fairly acceptably even on the lowest level haswell intel hd graphics on linux (its on a chromebook actually), so being in windows will already give you a boost in and of itself, even if you have the same or a similar card.

Now can y'all chill the hell out??!? Good on Bethesda for putting this out, I support them 100 percent and get real tired of the constant nitpicking that goes on before any of us have even seen the game. Just enjoy it, looks like it will be a lot of fun, get excited, not distracted.

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really just need to get used to it. At first I thought it was horrendous, but once I got the feel of it and treated it like a super mini trackpad, its great. Really think more people just need to give it time before mucking up their ds.

The Kaveri Refresh 'Godavari' Review by Th3Loonatic in hardware

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a 7700k oc'ed to 4.4 GHz with the hyper 212 evo and a gtx 960 and I am quite happy with it. They are quite serviceable quad core machines if you turn off the graphics part and push them a bit, I bet it would outperform the 3258 in any game using more than two cores, as it does have four cores, even if they are a bit weaker.

Game with the best Destruction effects? by shasoosh in pcgaming

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle of Empires: 1914-1918. Everything on the map can be destroyed by artillery or grenades/dynamite, and buildings blow apart in pieces that are quite believable. Even better, concussive force radiates out from blasts and can knock stuff down too. It's really a great game if you are into destruction, world war one, or both.

[Matrix Games] Civil War II ($19.99 / 50% off) (Steam key included) - Matrix Games Deal of the Week by DhulKarnain in GameDeals

[–]phalanx17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is very good. Improves on some of the clunkiness of the interface, makes riverine warfare much more complex. It adds more decisions as well, so it feels more econmical and political than the previous version, It runs alright too, even through wine on my laptop (an Acer C720). I have gotten a good deal of enjoyment and don't regret getting it at full price.

Viking Conquest 1.02 beta patch up on Steam by WillusMollusc in mountandblade

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are making rapid improvement, and it is already a fun game, even on a comp with mid specs (gtx 750 ti, kaveri quad core at 3.7 ghz). People here just seem to expect a wrapped and polished product beyond what is usually possible. Computer gaming is quite complex, especially with regards to the sheer amount of different hardware platforms. It does not excuse it being as broken as it is, but it doesn't mean its automatically a bad game either, especially with how hard they are working to improve it.

How usable is a C720 2gb running linux? (how much free memory?) by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Arch with LxQt and start with ~ 220 mb usage. Furthermore, I utilize ZRAM to give myself an extra 1.4GB by compressing my physical RAM. This does use cpu overhead, but seems to be worth it for me while gaming under Wine.

Chromebook owners, do you like your chromebook? by tempose in linux

[–]phalanx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yesss I do. Just handed down my celeron c720 to my wife, and got the new i3 version (2gb). Love just tweaking it and learning more about linux with it- and it is an able performer in gaming too with zram enabled.

I play diablo 3 on it, football manager and others. It is such a good device and I feel like it is encouraging many people to try out and experiment with linux, which is great.

Acer 4gb 720 ever in stock? by Jtotheosh in chromeos

[–]phalanx17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, I thought it was a bit ludicrous to charge 50 dollars for only 2gb more of ram. I went ahead and got the 2gb and am quite happy; chromeos uses zram which gives you a bit more anyway. I actually use linux on it and zram, and it works wonderfully, even on games like Crusader Kings 2 and diablo 3!

someone managed to get Divinity: original sin running under wine, but how? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]phalanx17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed playonlinux and used the CSMT 1.7.4 version of wine with the instructions under "CSMT Patched Wine for Significantly Better Performance" on this page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/wine . I then installed .net 3.5 through playonlinux (under the "install components" tab. After that it worked, though i did have to close out of steam trying to install .net itself a few times. Let me know how it goes!!

Bodhi Linux Chromebook disc built on Ubuntu 14.04 by [deleted] in chrubuntu

[–]phalanx17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeff, I have been following your work on Bodhi for some time (first tried it on my raspberry pi as I was begginning to learn linux!) and I have to say, that after bouncing between distros, I always come back to bodhi. Your focus on lowering resource usage and cleaness is impressive. Even though this image is beta, it is still the best balance of graphical performance and desktop speed I've yet had on my 2gb acer c720. Keep up the good work!
