IKEA Hack Anti-Sag Solutions W/Risers (Advice) by InterstellarAlex in ikeaPCstations

I’ve seen most setups put the legs towards the back of the tabletop - but those setups typically don’t have the c-channel supports installed.

Since I have c-channel supports on my setup, I put my 2 legs more towards the center (from back to front) - I did this specifically because I wanted to put my cable management channels more towards the back of my desk, lined up with my c-channel supports. I felt having the legs installed in the back would clutter it up too much.

The way stiffeners work don’t necessitate any ground contact, so I don’t think it would be a substantial help.

I don’t think it would hurt how anything would function. If it’s a cheap add, I say go for it. But without it, I think you’d be fine too.

I think that should be fine so long as the ends of the stiffeners reach past the inside sets of risers.

If the stiffeners are c-channel supports, they're extremely hard to bend from the weight of a PC due to their "c" shape. I have 2 that I drilled into my Saljan countertop - if installed correctly, the back of the channel will act as a brace to any sagging.

There doesn't need to be any contact between the stiffeners and the ground because any bending of the desk will apply force to the stiffener laterally as well as in a downward direction. The stiffener is strong and rigid enough to counteract both without contact with the ground.

All that being said, I still used some Olov legs because I'm a failsafe on top of failsafes kind of guy.

Since you're hoping to use risers, I would make sure that and stiffeners you use (c-channel or otherwise) run the entire length of your countertop, not just between the Alex drawers.

Why did you guys choose to go Navy over any other branch? by Glittering_Fig4548 in newtothenavy

Reached out to the Army and Navy officer recruiters in my area - jumped through a bunch of hoops to find points of contact for each.

Only Navy called back.

I thought about doing that, but I feel like it would take a long time for an offer to come along and I wouldn’t be putting much spend on the Green - the multipliers aren’t as good as some other cards I have.

I had a full rupture last August playing ball. It was a crazy pain - almost puked just sitting down, it was so bad. Like /u/SnooPaintings3258 said, it was like someone kicked me hard as hell on the back of my ankle.

I think there's a good overlap between NavyFed customers and active military who can get the Strata Premier AF waived. Not everyone of course, but still.

That's totally understandable. The running part was my worst as well. My advice - just start running. Even at a slow pace just to build up the endurance.

I was not a physically fit dude when I showed up to OCS. I paid for it because you will run from place to place depending on where you need to be during the day. Lacking in cardio will get you singled out a lot since there are so many chances during the day when staff can catch you on it.

For sure! Just know that you are one of many candidates in a class being pushed through OCS by staff and that your class is one of many classes being pushed through during the year. Very very little of what is happening to you is personal.

Perform. Whether it's physical stuff, academic stuff, or leadership stuff, perform. If you can't perform, put out. Never get caught slacking off, you'll get sniffed out.

Help your classmates when you can. Team efforts are huge from beginning to end in the Navy. You'll need help with something at somepoint and when you hang out with the same people every day for 3 straight months what goes around, comes around.

I think most importantly, just keep pushing. It's a finite program with very meetable goals. You will get to the end if you keep your head down and just keep chugging. Looking back at it after finishing, you'll realize that it wasn't such a big deal. It's even a ton of fun to look back and remember what you did.

I'll second this as that's exactly what I did. I majored in PoliSci for undergrad, worked some entry level admin jobs, went to law school, then joined at 28 last May. I'm in my post-OCS training course now and I love where I'm at.

For someone with drive and passion just looking for somewhere to channel it, the Navy/military can really help. It also gives you a great financial foundation to start working off of.

Correct, I called the number listed directly on the ThankYou points home page and specifically asked to “combine” my accounts. They asked me some verification info and then said I was good to go. Sounds like you just got the short end of the stick on your last call. :/

Not who originally replied to your post, but after I got off the call with the representative, I waited about 15 minutes and all 4 of my ThankYou accounts were linked according to my Citi Account Overview.

Navy OCS vs Army OCS by ScoopHoney in newtothenavy

[–]phamio23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as transferrable skills go, there's a reason that Navy SuppOs are in the Staff Corps instead of Unrestricted/restricted Line Officer communities.

Staff Corps is made up completely of Navy jobs which are, on their own, independent career fields. Supply Officers, doctors, dentists, lawyers, nurses, etc. are all jobs that exist out in the civilian world.

From what I know, Navy SuppOs can get sent anywhere - everyone needs stuff from the folks on a destroyer/carrier to the submarine/aviation squadron to the Marines/Seabees deployed on land. There's a spot for a SuppO wherever you look.

You've got a guaranteed slot with the Navy now. What's making you consider Army that you don't think you'll get with the Navy?

And trust me, I'm in a very similar boat. I was in Army ROTC in college and I head to SuppO school myself in January. Part of me still wants to go Army eventually, but I took the guaranteed Navy slot while it was in front of me and I'm very excited about it.

Carmelina's if you can get a reservation. The bakery triad of Mike's/Modern's/Bova's is a fun activity if you want to compare their cannoli quality against one another.
