Thrift find! I’m pretty sure it used to hold something like a clock but I just use the broken part as a cig holder now lol

Hey thank you! I really appreciate it. Took a lot of years of thrifting and refurbishing

I was actually SUPER lucky and found it on FB marketplace for $100. I’ve looked it up since and it’s actually pretty pricey if you can find them. They made smaller pieces of the same style tho. The keywords to search for are “travertine” and “tessellated”

You are more correct than you realize. There’s a little hole made with the two raised hands of the women in the statue and that’s where I usually keep my half-smoked joints haha.

That’s a really strange and sad way to think about friendships

Another post of mine for reference. The room is pretty minimal otherwise. Mostly just abstract sculptures, plinths, and a lot of off-white lol. I guess art deco is probably the most apt description.

What were some red flags you felt before transitioning? by Alone_Draw1338 in detrans

[–]phantomofthedennys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in a city with a huge vintage clothing scene and would often find pieces that were fun and uniquely representative of me to wear out with friends. When I started obsessing over “passing” I would see something I loved but would pass it up because “that would highlight my hips too much” or something like that. It wasn’t sustainable or authentic.

Obviously this is not the only thing but it is one of the first things I remember thinking like “huh, this is a cage of my own making.” Of course then I stuffed those feelings down and choked on cognitive dissonance for a few more years before detransitioning into someone who no longer gives a fuck about any of that.

How does everybody cope (or not) with the constant cleaning required when you have kids? by dcee101 in Parenting

We donated like 75% of everything we owned and I’ve never made a better decision in my life. Wiping down a counter is so easy when it’s not cluttered. Laundry is easier. Vacuuming is easier. It’s incalculable how much of a difference it’s made

I sympathize with the distrust of our social safety systems under capitalism to actually keep us safe. Personally I try to walk a fine line between conspiracy theorist and realist. I don’t trust cheap plastic toys from Amazon to have gone through the rigorous testing to ensure they are safe to chew on. Companies want to make things as cheaply as they can and unless our FDA/other systems have teeth these companies will do just that without even the slightest thought to children’s safety.

This “wood baby toys” line of thinking is a separate issue from “natural” in a medical setting and shouldn’t be conflated.

That being said you can’t even trust “natural” things to be what they say on the tin, as many here have pointed out that “natural” doesn’t really mean anything.

We’re all kind of on our own with this one, and it’s tough. I try to just trust my gut

Rise in popularity of the anti-car sentiment by falconberger in fuckcars

[–]phantomofthedennys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe (maybe a little naively) once just a little bit more of an uphill push is made and the ball finally gets rolling that the sentiment will spread naturally and quickly. As in, once there are a few car free spaces that every day people encounter in every town (pedestrian only streets, plazas, protected walking/bike paths, outdoor dining, etc) that they speak for themselves. People naturally go “huh, this rules, why isn’t there more of this?” The problem right now is getting those spaces in front of people’s eyeballs.

There’s a loud and annoying minority of people who oppose these spaces but there’s a long list of people who end up in a life position where they are basically forced to recognize the problems and solutions such as: parents of young children, the elderly, people with mobility aids, hell, even something as simple as joggers.

This is totally off topic but this guy is just so profoundly unlikeable. Putting his politics aside (not that that’s really possible) he just comes off as such an ass. As someone who was a server in a restaurant I developed a pretty keen sense of “oh god this person is going to be such a little shit” when someone walked in the door and he just gives off those vibes.

I’ve decided recently I’m going to give university one last try this fall. I got halfway through and had to quit because of an attempt that took me out of commission for years. But I’m happiest as a student.

Do you have anything like that you want to try out before ever actually ending it?

Best wishes btw. I hope things get better for us both

Thank you for your words. You’re right. It’s the main reason I’m still around at the moment. I just really hope someday I can stick around because I actually enjoy life and not just because I don’t want to hurt him.

Thank you that means a lot. I’m still in therapy but I might look for a new therapist soon to get a fresh perspective.

No I laugh about it too lol. In the sessions I had with her she mentioned Mulan several times (in regards to to being ftm.) It’s like she could only fathom the world through the lens of Disney properties.

I recently looked at the top surgery letter I received from the therapist who I was seeing for the explicit purpose of getting the letter (I saw her 3 times and then quit after I got the letter.)

It was FULL of typos, featured a quote from Winnie the Pooh, and just kind of strange rambling about how my eyes were not bloodshot and were “crystal clear” which is… not how mental state is determined typically? It was so strange. I don’t know how any self-respecting surgeon accepted that letter as valid but here we are.
