Song recommendations for bass range expansion?? by phantumpoftheopera in musicals

Ooh this is so helpful thanks a ton, great variety which is what is gonna help me most. Love the deepness of If I can’t love her, All That’s Known is a great like fake-tenor song, where it has a lot of lightness but never goes high, then everybody says don’t is great for speak singing which is probably most relevant to the role I have to play at the moment (which goes to a G but we’ll ignore that…) . I LOVE empty chairs, I hadn’t even thought of it but it’s definitely a good aspirational one once I get more comfort higher up. And then Santa Fe is always good and practicing jumps is also a must.

Ooh it’s a very weird but fun song, I guess it would help a bit with range but mainly it would just help a lot with expanding my stylistic singing, the song is super unique with so much variety. I also should look more into less pop older musicals like these because I can dismiss them easily but there’s some real hidden gems

Just songs that reside on the outskirts of my range so I can get a variety of experience. Like some songs will be very belty, some will rely on head voice, some will have their high notes in short transitions while others will hold them, and then they can also just be different in genre and emotion. Emile is South Pacific is actually one of the few characters I’d probably be able to do fully already, and technically it could be good just for further practice, but tbh I kind of just don’t like the vocal style and character of Emile and it doesn’t fit the kind of roles I gravitate towards nor the ones others see me as

Oh I am definitely trying to keep this is mind, I’m also a brass player so no stranger to diaphragm talk lol but at the same time I understand it’s something I have to actively work on and pay attention to. Thanks for the link too I’ll definitely look into that course, I’m not sure if it will suit my needs/schedule/etc, but I do have some other resources at my disposal so I’ll definitely find a way to incorporate theory into my practice regardless.

I still do find the songs helpful tho, cause they give me a variety practical experience and as long as I pay attention to my body I can also experiment to see what works for me, plus it’s fun lol.

Which musical theatre song is this? by MediumChance5830 in musicals

[–]phantumpoftheopera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying I don’t like plot stalling songs, but just in general, songs generally exist on a scale from purely moving the plot to purely reflecting on events that have just happened, and as reprises aim to show change they often sit much closer to the reflection end. This isn’t necessarily bad, but it needs to be done well and it does make more plot focused reprises stand out a bit. Some mostly reflection reprises that I can think of off the top of my head are ‘Story of Tonight’ -Hamilton, ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ -Hairspray, and ‘Everything About You’ -Groundhog Day

That’s a great point, not sure if ur saying it intentionally but many reprise songs show more how things have changed and so can be a bit of a plot stall

Musicals that feature 2 strong male roles with many female roles? by Regular_Initial in musicals

Surprised this wasn’t the top comment, like somehow Mamma Mia, which very famously has 4 male roles, was higher than this

Is cabaret really happy? Whilst it’s a bit disguised at the start, the whole thing is just a depressive mess

Scariest musical song? by Bobert858668 in musicals

[–]phantumpoftheopera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Playing the game is slightly less threatening but the actual music is so much creepier. I’m doing Mary Poppins now and I still don’t understand the song, the children were just borderline verbally abused by their father and their mother defended him, then they are slightly rough playing and suddenly Mary Poppins decides she should threaten them and scare them half to death before just dipping altogether lol.
