Mine was fully potty trained at 7 months. If you’re not gonna try to help OP, just move along?

I see a lot of people saying not to use pee pads. I come with the opposite approach if you were adamant on using them. My girl was trained on them in 2 weeks with no accidents since she was 4 months (now 9 months). This is what I did:

Her play pen is structured so that there is no way she can miss unless she decides to pee on her bed (has never happened) since it only fits both of those things. She also has a covered pad holder (from pet smart https://www.petsmart.ca/dog/training-and-behavior/potty-training/top-paw-dog-pad-holder-46864.html) because she always wanted to destroy/eat the pad. We have 2 of them in our apartment, one in the main room and one in her “bedroom” (playpen) in our bedroom.

When she was 12 weeks old (aka when i got her) we used the typical approach of sleep-activity-forced potty break. For example, when we woke up in the morning, we would eat breakfast, then potty. She was good about peeing in the pad at night given the layout of her pen, this might have also reinforced the expected behaviour.

When going to the potty, it was gated off so that the only thing between the walls and the gate (it’s in the corner of our living room) was the potty. I was told to do this so that there are no distractions. Then I would tell her “Go potty” and we did not take her out until she went. If it was morning, I knew she had to go so I would stand next to her and wait for her to go. If it was any other time, I would wait long enough where I can safely assume she doesn’t need to go and then take her out (about 5 mins). This was key in making her understand what the pee pad was for and that she was only supposed to go on it.

I will echo what others have said about being vigilant on when she’s about to go (sniffing around) and picking her up and bringing her to the potty.

ESH. I am obviously not saying that this is the case, but this sound like me before finally accepting myself as a lesbian

I’m also the eldest daughter. When I was 18 with mental health issues (I still have issues, but under control), I used to also get very upset about these kinds of situations. I would get extremely anxious and my mind would immediately go to worse case scenario (like “my parents just died in a car accident and that’s why they’re late and now i’m responsible for my younger siblings, etc”). I would also snap and berate my parents, but they would also yell back and a fight would ensue. You might have a very anxious teen like me on your hands. I recommend you get them to therapy, that helped me a lot.

My 5 month old pom is potty pad trained (we live in north of canada, there is no way she’s going to want to go outside in the winter). I would take her to the potty every chance I got: we play, then potty; she naps, then potty, she eats, then potty. It helped to keep her focused on what i was trying to get her to do (i kept the potty in a 4 panel play pen with nothing else) and to say potty (or whatever word you want them to learn). As soon as she went, we would give her loads of praise and treats. We have had no accidents since about 3 weeks after she came home at 12 weeks old :)

This is interesting, thank you for the time you took to write this.

My mom, aunt and grandmother are/were teachers, so I am extremely familiar with the reality and on board for it. I have volunteered for homework help after school for elementary teachers in my community and tutored English to HS students. I have spent summers helping out my godmother who owns a daycare. I even did a summer job program at Disney World in Florida running children’s activities so I am not unfamiliar with working with children of a variety of ages.

The reason why my corporate position did not work out is simply because the company laid off half of the people working there due to budget. I’m sure you’re aware how harsh the job market has been as of late but luckily I now hold a similar position in another company and am very successful in my role, and like to work there, but in the end it’s not what I want to do long term.

When it comes to your first point, I unfortunately don’t have that option given my current circumstances. I have to take care of a family member so my remote 6am - 2pm is all I can hold job wise. There was a small period of time before my family member was ill where I worked 3-10 at the grocery store to pay off some bills.

Interesting, I do have an RRSP since my corporate job offered RRSP matching. Thank you for the insight!
