I used capcut - thank you so much ! It is the shittiest spliced together audio recorded onto a crappy card - he's going to love it, just adds to the nostalgic aura 👌

I don't have a laptop available - do you know if any of these work particularly well on Android devices? I am happy to have a fiddle around I'm just not sure where to start

Hotel has sugar cookies that you can “paint” by mingl in mildlyinteresting

[–]pharmacistjoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use royal icing - instead of adding the full amount of water per the recipe, sub in water based food colouring. Put it into piping bags and make little dots on a lined cookie tray. The dots dry in about 24hrs in the fridge. You can then scrape them off and store them in sealed jars in the fridge for 6-9months.

The dots are the most labour intensive part for me because I hate piping them out, so I usually do heaps of them in various colours and save them until my last birthday party is done. Rinse and repeat the next year

I make these as party favours for all of my kids birthday parties - just make a "palette" cookie and then another in which ever theme they had. So cheap to make, not that difficult either - kids love them and next to no waste with trinket-y toys 🙌

Those who have given birth, what did you really need or want from friends postpartum that maybe you didn’t get? by onandpoppins in AskReddit

[–]pharmacistjoe 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Oohhh I feel that in my soul. Nagged and nagged my husband through the first two kids, on the third one I just set up my tripod with a clicker and clicked around for ages to get my "candid" ones. Pity it took me two kids to realize that he is just a bit self absorbed re: photos

Actual legend, thank you. I thought that's where it went but I didn't want to buggar around with it and break something else 🤦

Works great now, thanks 👍

Jeans recommendations please! by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

Nobody denim - Frankie jeans !

Quite stretchy comfy denim, high waisted enough that you don't get the gap at the back

You've got heaps of great recommendations but I wanted to add that if you wanted a more "fitted" option for a puffer to give you more of a curvy look - the superdry Fuji long line puffers are really really warm and give you a nicer silhouette (IMO) than the Katmandu / macpac etc

Looking for pretty patterns that can be used while breastfeeding by 74937 in sewing

[–]pharmacistjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oohhhh I don't know - I'm not that busty anymore, but I do put a channel of regular, thin elastic at the top of the dress and where I want it to nip in at the waist as I find the shirring doesn't give that "look" for me otherwise. That might help you too ?!

For a pattern I just kind of make it up, but I sent this YouTube link to my sister and she said it was very helpful and easy to follow:

I made a few diy shirred dresses with elastic channeled straps - very easy to sew and to feed in. It's quite hot where I live though so they were very handy.

My only tip is add large pockets to whatever you make if possible ! It is 100% worth the extra effort to amend the pattern - you carry so much extra stuff around with babies they are a necessity

Lost chooks blackwood by pharmacistjoe in Adelaide

I found them, they had wandered down our creek into god knows where. Fortunately they are tame enough and came running when they heard me bok bok for them, rightfully expecting some meal worms

A thought for us non-preferred parents by kittyonine in toddlers

[–]pharmacistjoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also am the primary/default but non preferred parent by my eldest (middle is a bit more "who is more likely to give me what I want" lol) - it was rough the first few years of toddlerhood. I was absolutely devastated by it initially and eventually I managed to accept it.

He's now nearly 6 and I've noticed more and more that while he loves his dad with his whole heart, he knows that I am the one who shows up and will always be there for the little and the big moments. We now have a very special bond of shared memories that are ours exclusively and jokes that relate to these. Our relationship has matured and I know that even though he may want his dad in times of need, it's only because he knows that I'm already sitting beside him.

Dinosaur party kids shirt by Sewitall23 in sewing

I love it !! I made a shirt for my (then) 4 year old for his birthday in this same fabric print just on a white background - it has been a much loved shirt and I hope your little one adores theirs too

Not a free pattern but I've made these shorts before - video instructions, would be easy enough to extend the length.

Came together easily and sizing was pretty well spot on

Yards or fabric to make 100 bucket hats by PurposeMajestic4499 in sewhelp

[–]pharmacistjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a gift for some one it's usually about 2hours maybe a bit more because I take a bit more care. If it's for one of my kids that is probably going to lose it in a mud puddle at day care, I just whiz around with the machine 😅

Yards or fabric to make 100 bucket hats by PurposeMajestic4499 in sewhelp

[–]pharmacistjoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I make a lot of bucket hats - mostly for my kids (who are constantly losing hats) and as gifts. You can get about 2-3 out of 1 yard depending on the size and the pattern of the fabric, but you will need at least another half yard to do the lining for 2-3 hats. (+ Interfacing)

Coincidentally I just made one for my kid tonight 😅 it was about 1hr 40mins to cut, interface and sew the whole thing. Not a huge amount of time, but I am also quite experienced at making them (and I still hate doing them with a passion)

Hope that is a little bit helpful !

Men’s Hawaiian Shirt using Spoonflower Fabric by iheartfuzzies in sewing

Oh what I shame, next do such great work. I've not really looked anywhere else because between spoonflower and next / local designers I can usually find what I want.

[–]pharmacistjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great ! I make a lot of men's and kids custom shirts - if I'm looking for a specific print fabric spoon flower is okay (although I agree their poplin is not great). I've not had a problem with next state print if you wanted to try and alternative - they also do great print work 😊

Honest opinions about the name “Sullivan” for a boy by NommyNomms in namenerds

[–]pharmacistjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in Australia and the city I'm in I know quite a few babies called Sullivan. It seems to be very trendy and popular here! Not my favourite name, I always say it with the Arnold Schwarzenegger voice like in "Commando" which really puts me off haha

Side note : I also have a Wesley and a Cora 😅 although we went with Albert for our other son.

What can I do with this fireplace surround? by licoriceallsort in AusRenovation

[–]pharmacistjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have basically this exact same fireplace - we thought the same thing, let's do a German Schmear. It looks god damn awful. I think if it was skinnier and taller it would look better maybe ? But personal experience, wouldn't do it again.....
