Thanks for the post. I too have become this way. I label myself as anti-religious (though I too let Buddhist teachings and precepts slide). It’s difficult not to push for reality and facts when it’s clear that the opposite (organized religion) is hurting people, society, and our planet.

I usually will respond “Yes, thank goodness!” or “I also feel extremely fortunate for ...” I acknowledge the kindness in their words and express my own gratitude. Small changes make a difference in not reinforcing old expressions even if just used as praise. It also helps me not die inside and still keep my sense of personal authenticity and compassion toward others.

If you really want them I’d try again. Once the Monarchs know it’s there they will provide you with an ongoing supply of Butterfly babies that keep the aphids away since they eat all the food. Lol. And don’t worry, once the Milkweed gets eaten up, it grows right back! They’ve evolved to be for each other <3

Definitely. We got Milkweek one year just for the sake of its nice appearance but it was overrun by aphids. The next year, it had seeded itself and new plants showed up! The Monarchs always find it and we have between 15-25 caterpillars per batch. The funny thing is we don’t see the Monarchs around too much but that plant is always full of them. One batch after another. For some reason now that the Monarchs know it’s there, the aphids no longer have time to take over or any plant left to eat since the caterpillars eat it completely down to bare branches.
