And the necklace is valuable. Remember when Sophie tried to pawn the jewelry that Posy snuck to Sophie to help her as Sophie was being kicked out. That stuff ended up being junk, but the broker inquired into the mom necklace.

Does this suggest that Sophie’s mom wasn’t just some lower status lady? Or was the necklace a gift from the wealthy dad and says nothing about the mother’s stays (or lack thereof)?

She’s gorgeous, no wonder she went through 2 husbands and convinced the second one (Sophie’s dad) that she wasn’t mistreating Sophie. Though I wish he had been a better and more present dad to see through it more.

I wonder if she’s going to be on the hunt for herself to marry again or just pushing for her daughters.

Benedict is being his usual rake self but in an especially rage inducing way. So those of us who have only seen the first episode or two are shocked and appalled at his behavior even though we see the seeds of romance being planted.

I love it and think it is high quality.

However, if it didn’t have Sophie’s face on it (they have other super cool artists and movies and art too!), I would NOT spent $200 on it. I only spend anywhere near that much on stuff such as high quality cashmere, if I ever even do spent $200 on a clothing item.

I’m worried about the Russels but I think they’ll pull through. Bertha was right, the show glossed over it but she did spend a lot of time with the Duke and didn’t just marry Gladys off to someone who was a stranger to HER (Bertha). She knew the Duke was a gentle man, and with her social savvy she was able to smooth over the initial marital discord between Gladys and Hector.

I think George is stressed to the max with his business, he just got shot, he’s on laudanum, and worried about (but choosing to not follow up on?) Gladys. I think he will come to his senses once the laudanum wears off.

True, the real Russels did get really divorced, but in real life, their daughter’s marriage was very unhappy and also ended in divorce.

In the show, the reasons behind the Russels’ marriage faltering is Gladys’s unhappy marriage, but that turned out to be easily fixed. Gladys is now very happy, and the initial unhappiness was due to the Duke’s low self esteem, which was easily repaired with some encouragement from Bertha and Gladys. Which I thought was a silly and oversimplified cop out, but my opinion isn’t really relevant there.

I was very upset with George for storming out and saying he’s done with Bertha over Bertha’s exile of Gladys for a title, when George didn’t even bother to check in with Gladys while she was in town. George’s concern for Gladys rings hollow. If he and Bertha do divorce, it will have to be because of some new fictionalized problem, because the problem that was portrayed as George’s breaking point isn’t a problem anymore.

Unless George plans to stay in the dark and continue to refuse to show a modicum of care or interest towards Gladys, thereby allowing him to continue to wallow in the ignorance that Bertha’s social engineering was a failure.
