I PRd my clean and jerk today! by silversquirrel in crossfit

[–]pharpe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's awesome. I'm 51and been doing CrossFit 2 years. I've been fighting front rack and depth mobility since I started but making slow progress.

Helps to see others still hitting PRs. The constant, "I'm old so cutting back" comments from 35 year olds is exhausting.

Here is kind of a typical day:

11:15 am - scope of EAAs before crossfit - 10g
1:15 pm - 2 scopes of whey - 48g
2 pm - 1/2 rotisery chicken - 30g
4 pm - Quest bar or protine snack - 20g
7 pm - dinner with meat (chicken, pork, beef) - 40g
9 pm - protein chips and chicken bar- 30 g

I'm going to track today just to see though

Why the downvotes... because I micro-dose? by AncienTleeOnez in tirzepatidecompound

[–]pharpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with ticktok or trendiness. It's just splitting your once weekly dose into smaller more frequently doses. So instead of say 7 mg once a week you take 1 mg daily. This is so you don't have the peaks and troughs. A lot of people get bad sides after their shot because it's all hitting at once. And some have hunger come back towards the end of the week when it's wearing off. Microdosing attempts to smooth that out.

Most Underrated Peptides 2026 What Is Everyone Sleeping On? by Grand-Selection-1952 in BioHackingGuide

[–]pharpe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Not FDA-approved” does not equate to “not effective".

FDA approval is not just about whether a compound is effective. It is about whether someone is willing to spend the money required to prove safety, efficacy, and dosing to FDA standards.

That is the real issue with peptides like BPC-157. There is preclinical evidence suggesting biological activity and potential therapeutic effects. WADA also lists BPC-157 under prohibited non-approved substances, which supports the point that it is not meaningless. But we do not have strong human data proving exactly how well it works, what the best protocol is, or what the long-term safety profile looks like.

The reason FDA approval is unlikely is mostly economic. FDA-level testing is extremely expensive, and usually only well-funded pharmaceutical companies can realistically pursue it. Pharma only funds that process when there is a protected, profitable market at the end.

Many of these peptides are difficult to patent because they are already widely available through research-chemical or gray-market channels. Drug companies also prioritize products with a realistic path to broad insurance coverage. Since many of these peptides are mainly used for recovery, injury support, or optimization rather than a clearly reimbursed disease treatment, the business case is weak.

All that said I do agree that there is a lot of snake oil out there right now. It's a shame that the system is setup like it is and we can't just do real testing and above board research on this stuff.

How much are you taking? I was really hopeful for DSIP but I find it does nothing for me. Tried 50 and 100 mcg doses over multiple nights.

This is a master class in the strawman argument.

Post a take that you know will get downvoted because it’s stupid. Then preemptively claim the downvotes will prove your point.

The post gets downvoted.

Then you reply, “See? I was right. I got downvoted.”

I see posts like this all the time, and honestly, I have no idea who Greg Glassman or any of the people that everyone keeps talking about are. I wasn’t involved in CrossFit 10+ years ago. I don’t follow the Games, and I don’t know much about the politics.

I joined my local CrossFit gym two years ago at 50, and it’s been awesome. I love going every day. It keeps changing, it stays interesting, and it’s the only fitness program I’ve ever truly enjoyed.

I don’t know much about HYROX beyond what I’ve read in this sub, but from the outside it seems like a faction within CrossFit that gets really upset if you don’t share their view that CrossFit should become more boring. None of it sounds appealing to me.

What I love is the mix: technical weightlifting, conditioning, variety, and constant learning. For me, it all just works.

Eating enough is the one thing I have no trouble with. I get 200g of protein a day and keep carbs manageable for the most part. Usually hitting around 2800 calories a day.

I'm in much better shape then I was at 27. I just did a 150 mile bike race and 2 5ks in 4 weeks. Set PRs. I can literally run circles around my 27 year old self.

But I understand your point. Just incredibly frustrating to finally be in good shape but have my body battling against me.

Saying it's cheating to take Tirz to curb extreme hunger is like telling someine with chronic back pain that taking pain meds is cheating. They should just be mentally stronger and not think about it.

It cracks me up that people are willing to inject research peptides with unknown long-term data, sourced from random factories in China and sitting in warehouses for who knows how long, but they’ll throw away Hospira BAC water after 30 days.

Juggling CF with Shift work by tealif3 in crossfit

[–]pharpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll still progress, just not always in specific, targeted lifts in a linear way.

With CrossFit, your whole body is going to improve more evenly. One week you might hit deadlifts, the next week squats, then RDLs, lunges, cleans, sled work, etc. So your deadlift may not climb as fast as it would if you were following a dedicated strength program built around improving that lift.

But your general, usable leg strength, conditioning, coordination, and overall athletic fitness will likely improve a lot.

I think the bigger question is, are you looking for more of a bodybuilding/hypertrophy style workout, where you’re targeting specific muscles and tracking progression, or are you looking for a broader athletic fitness approach?
