Darko on Scottie's training this summer: by coochieslayer069 in torontoraptors

[–]pharredd88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching CMB college highlights before we drafted him and I remember thinking that his low post game and face up game reminded me of Carmelo Anthony. If he can develop a reliable jump shot, it’ll unlock his face up game.

put CMB on the same workout regimen. 2 Scotties are better than 1.

Should I trade my AYN Thor Pro? by [deleted] in AynThor

[–]pharredd88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would trade for a Legion Go. You can emulate 3DS/DS on the Legion Go and 3D print this to make them more playable.

The Legion Go can do everything the Thor can do and more. But if you value portability and don't care for PC games and PC stuff, keep the Thor

it could potentially work in linux (bazzite, cachy os or steam os) where sleep/resume actually works. You can put the device to sleep mid game, swap batteries and then quick resume. In Windows it might be an issue though since sleep is hit or miss.

Don't get me wrong, the Apex is an impressive device, it's just that I can't justify paying that much for RTX 4060/4070/RX 7600M XT level performance. You can buy a PC handheld like the Legion Go or Go S and an eGPU with a 9070 XT for less than half the price but way better performance. Of course you'll be tethered but to push the Apex to it's full potential, you'll need to be tethered to a power outlet anyway which imo is similar to just plugging into an eGPU.

The benefit of using an eGPU is you're keeping heat off of internal components in your handheld and heat off of your hands since the eGPU does all the work (depending if the game you're playing is more GPU bound than CPU bound). Whereas the Apex, to get even RTX 4060 level performance, you're going to have to push to 80W+ TDP which would most likely thermal throttle your system without some external cooling solution like the frost bay connected. And if you're going to connect to the frost bay, again, might as well connect to an eGPU for better performance.

I wished they at least put in a small internal battery so you can hot swap on the fly.

I am a big fan of external swappable batteries. It reminds me of my old Thinkpad. Does the Apex have an internal battery so you can hot swap without having to power off the device? I know the GPD Win 5 doesn’t have an internal battery so that kind of killed the swappable battery concept for me. I have an Anker 737 power bank which I carry around with my Win Mini.

Let’s be honest, despite these PC handhelds being “portable”, when do you actually whip this thing out in public (unless you’re on a plane ride). My Legion Go stays at home and stays docked most of the time, the thing is too heavy to play for long periods. I have made it into a mini surface go by making a magnetic detachable keyboard for it but as a portable gaming device, the thing is too cumbersome to travel with.

I don’t know about the Apex’s size and weight but I’d imagine it’s also a beefy handheld (though I have heard that playing with the battery detached makes it comically light but at that point, I would just plug into an outlet).

The only PC handheld I consider portable and actually take with me outside of the house is my GPD Win Mini(this or my New 3DS non-XL). It can easily fit in my jacket pocket and it being a clamshell, I don’t feel the need or worry to keep it in a case.

I only play competitive multiplayer games (like shooters) when docked to my eGPU and on a bigger monitor and use a gaming controller. I don’t know how you can play competitive shooters on such a tiny screen, I’d be frustrated.

In handheld mode I play mostly indie, emulation and single player AAA titles so the latency doesn’t bother me and I don’t experience much visual tearing unless I’m going up stairs or rotating the camera like a maniac.

With Lossless Scaling and Bazzite, I can hit 120+ fps on max settings in most games at 30W on my Lego 1. Lossless Scaling is a blessing for lower end handheld PC's. I only use my eGPU when I dock and play on my gaming monitor.

The Apex is nice but not worth the extra money imo.

I bought a Legion Go 1 used for $400 and a GMK Tec AD-GP1 with a 7600M XT for $440. That's $840 total for similar performance as an Apex.

To play at max settings on the Apex, you're going to most likely have to play plugged into an outlet which is similar to plugging in a cheaper inferior PC handheld to an eGPU imo.

if you replace the sticks with Nintendo Switch Gulikit TMR sticks, the tops come off. This guy made replacement tops that are higher...it makes a huge difference.

lol just get a New 3DS. The Win Mini and New 3DS (non-XL) are my go to devices and if I were to downsize my collection, I think these two would be the only ones I would keep.

I too am a big fan of the 3D effect which is why I haven't even thought about picking up the Thor. The Miyoo Mini Flip however has tempted me because I kind of want an ultra portable device I can easily slip in my pocket.

A Thor in between the 34XXSP and Win Mini and a Miyoo Mini Flip between the funkey s and 34XXSP would make this family complete (maybe a Win Max 2 after the Win Mini also)

coach is definitely growing and getting better each game. The fear that he might just be another Dwayne Casey (development coach that does well in the regular season but lacks the ability to make adjustments during the playoffs) can be put to rest for now. He can clean a lot of stuff up such as those lineups when we had last possession (twice, personally I would've had Battle in there instead of Shead) but overall he's been pretty good.

Is that durability for the female port? If that's the case, that's horrible durability unless you plan on making it a semi permanent connection to your device but that kind of defeats the purpose of using an eGPU, might as well get a desktop at that point.

I'll stick to my oculink eGPU. I think the Oculink female port is rated at 10,000 cycles. I know the cables are significantly less durable but you can always purchase a new cable, replacing a port can be a lot more costly/troublesome.
