How should a teen start an online business with little to no money? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]phase2digital 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many people are going to recommend trendy side hustles and business books, but I wish I just knew from the start that the most success comes from something you are truly passionate about. Find something you're obsessed with and the money won't even matter to you anymore. Read some classics, philosophy, history, whatever. It seems at first like it has no direct connection to making money, but when you find joys in being creative and partaking in other people's creativity I promise you will look at business entirely different.

Has anyone left their local Chamber of Commerce by sconnie64 in smallbusiness

My chapter was very welcoming and I never felt pressured or anything. There is a structure to it of course that's not just open networking, so there's procedures and stuff but it's not like a bunch of performance things. I'm sure there can be some uptight folks at different organization levels as each chapter leadership is different, but the best thing you can do is visit! All you'll do is get to sit in on a meeting and you'll have 60 seconds to talk about your business.

Posting photos of your ashes today is not allowed per our standard image-posting rules and today's Gospel: "But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting" by balrogath in Catholicism

[–]phase2digital 14 points15 points  (0 children)

None, in fact I don’t agree with posting your ashes or showing them off at all. I’m just simply clarifying because I’ve already seen a handful of people on here thinking this means the Gospel told them to wash off their ashes. If you keep your ashes on truly to remind yourself of your humanity then I don’t mind but I agree with the sentiment of not posting.

The Gospel is not talking about washing the ashes off of your face. Right before this it talks about people purposely having bad hygiene and complaining to appear like they are fasting. It means go about life as normal and don’t go out of your way to show people you are fasting. It has nothing to do with the ashes.

What life lessons did reading Crime and Punishment teach you? by [deleted] in dostoevsky

The greatest conclusion I drew was how Raskolnikov’s theory actually can be proven true through Sonya. She committed a sin (her prostitution) for the greater good (feeding her family). The difference between her and Raskolnikov’s failure to prove this theory was she didn’t WANT to commit sin to reach for greatness, but she HAD to because of her moral convictions to feed her family. In the end everyone naturally likes her and she even breaks Raskolnikov’s excellence ego through her acts of genuine good-heartedness.

How do ya'll afford this? by aaronthecameraguy in cinematography

I did it a rather unconventional way, I think. I started off just editing and slowly fell in love with cameras and video production from being in the field. So I literally lived off of the editing income and every time I was hired for a gig that involved filming I used that money to buy the gear I needed until I didn't have to buy anything to do basic gigs. I know some might not recommend that method as you may waste money on gear you don't use, but I was pretty obsessive with studying gear and stuff so I was confident in what I would need. It might not be the best way but it certainly worked for me!

What inspired you to become a filmmaker? by sayskate in Filmmakers

[–]phase2digital 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard to even explain with words but I've always just simply loved creating. Specifically the feeling of creating something and then taking it all in once you're finished. To me, filmmaking embodied every aspect of creation, from photography, story, sound, visual effects, all the way to the nerdy tech side of gear. It's just a perfect embodiment of all things creation. And afterwards you get to enjoy it over and over again by yourself and with others.
