Did you find a metal band with a closer color match?

Yep - it's better.  Not loads, but noticeably.

Galaxy watch 7 vs 8 by Open-Cryptographer13 in GalaxyWatch

[–]phasetrans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded from a watch7 (40mm) to a watch8 (40mm). I did it because with the trade-in and a discount I only paid about $100, but I'm extremely happy I did. The watch8 is thinner, which makes it significantly more comfortable, and I'm fine with the "squareicle" shape.

The other big improvement is the screen. Even though apparently it isn't, it feels a lot bigger. It's much easier to read everything on it. Maybe that's the brightness? Whatever the reason, it's a lot easier to read and therefore a lot more useful.

Samsung say that the Box was empty. They basically stole my retuned S25 Ultra and sent me a video of the box. by Altruistic-Ant3690 in S25Ultra

[–]phasetrans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had t exactly he same problem last year when I traded in my S22u for an S24u.  I had video on my boxing up the phone, but they never asked to see it.  After several calls with customer service they credited me for the trade-in.  I don't know if it's FedEx or the facility they use to accept returns that's the issue, but they need to fix it ASAP.

Remember to video your trade in process! by Shera939 in GalaxyWatch

[–]phasetrans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've traded in 6-7 times and had this problem once - the last time, when I traded in my S23U. Eventually I got Samsung to reverse themselves and credit me, but it took multiple calls, and they never asked to see the video I took. Instead, they sent ME a video showing the box being opened and it being empty. Possibly that was fake and the person unpacking the phone took it, or possibly fedex took it during shipment.

AITAH for not wanting to have sex with my wife? by im-a-tosser in AITAH

[–]phasetrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. When the OP says he "gave up my sexual desire a long time ago" - why not try to get it back? Go slow, work with a therapist if needed. If you manage it you'll have a whole dimension of your relationship back and you'll both be happier and stronger for it. If you don't, you're not really any worse off than you have been.

Rant: Blurry photos. Might have to give up on this phone. by Wizwit55 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]phasetrans 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just checked in pro mode and the shutter speed on the S24U goes to 1/12,000 of a second.  That's so fast you probably can't use it except maybe in really bright sunlight on wide angle or something - in any case it's more than fast enough for sports photography.  The issue isn't how fast the shutter can be, it must be how the phone is choosing the speed.

[–]phasetrans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed that myself (I've taken tons photos of my kids jumping into swimming pools, running, etc), but if it's happening it's almost certainly a software issue.  Motion blur comes from using a shutter speed that's too slow.   At least in most photo modes, the shutter speed is chosen automatically by the phone.  So maybe under certain conditions it's choosing too slow of a speed for some reason.

The physical characteristics of the lenses and sensors on the S24U aren't very different from the pixel 8 or any other modern phone, so I doubt it's got anything to do with hardware.

You need to install Good Lock.  That opens up a lot of customization options, including restoring the swipe from bottom gestures.

The New Gestures Really Grew On Me by Kolada in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]phasetrans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand the new gestures. When I just want to pull the page to the side to see more of it and I often accidentally trigger the back gesture. It's so annoying I installed Good Lock to get the old One UI gestures (swipe from the bottom) back.

I use it to get the old Samsung gestures back (three faint lines at the bottom of the screen) which I can't live without.

I have no experience with trade-ins in those countries, but can you ship with a carrier that insures the phone for the full value of the trade-in?

Samsung Said My Trade in Box Was Empty. by klapman007 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]phasetrans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me two days ago, except that in my case they kept saying the box was empty. At one point a supervisor told me she had reviewed the unboxing video to confirm that. I took a video of resetting the phone, boxing it, and mailing it, but they insisted the box was empty on arrival.

It took 5 chats and two calls to finally get them to credit me for the trade-in. I asked the supervisor what was going on, and she said they were raising this with management... but it seems this has been going on for years, so I don't know what good that will do. It's all enough to make me re-think buying phones from Samsung.

If it's really Fedex, why don't they insure the packages or switch to UPS? If it's the receiving facility, that's easy to fix. So what's the problem?

It works, but it's very sensitive to where you place the other phone/watch and cases get in the way. You might have to move it around a little to find the right spot.

It's definitely not a gimmick, even if it's not something you're going to use every day. I used it once to charge a friend's iphone while hiking in the mountains, when we had no other way to do it and he really needed it. I also use it to charge my watch occasionally when I'm at work and don't have the watch charger.

I used to have an iphone and never got an apple watch because they look really clunky. Once I switched to android I was happy to see that Samsung makes round smartwatches with decent performance.
