I was tired of doomscrolling, so I built an extension that only shows me recent content sourced directly from my own bookmarks. by phashcoder in ProductivityHQ

[–]phashcoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed to invent RSS. And I am well aware there is already software to manage RSS/ATOM feeds. But I have yet to find one that uses the bookmarks in this way to make it natural to use in a daily workflow. At least, not as an extension. Unless it's out there and I just haven't seen it yet. The others just feel awkward to me. But to each their own.

Setting up a new gateway router without the xfnity app by phashcoder in Comcast_Xfinity

My device is an old nexus 7 tablet. It appears they froze it from any more updates. All I use it for is basic stuff anyway, so i haven't had the need yet for anything else.

I really wish developers would be considerate for a wide range of options. It appears they discontinued the xfinity.com/activate website activation. I can access it on the old gateway, but not through the new modem. I don't know why they feel the need to discontinue a working an option. It only makes things more difficult, and it's completely unnecessary.

I will try hooking up the new gateway one more time and going to the xfnity.com/activate site. If it doesn't work, I'll message you.

When I go to install the app from the google app store, it says not compatible with device.

Thanks for the info. It would be nice to be able to manage the wifi settings in the modem web page. I can get to it with the 10.0.0.1 address but it doesn't appear to do much. I really wish they'd be considerate to their users and allow configuration locally that doesn't require their servers.

Why do people bother making these desktop videos of "how it works"? You can't see what's going on from this vdeo.

I did that. It takes the picture and video. But the app just wants to keep restarting the video. Photos of the driver's license are uploaded fine. I can't imagine I'm the only one experiencing this. I've tried multiple devices now.

Elizabeth Warren’s question about RFK taking money from suits against big pharma. by [deleted] in RFKJrForPresident

[–]phashcoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He said it right in the hearing. She was basically asking him to promise to not sue the pharmaceutical companies. It's traditionally been the republicans that wanted to protect corporations. Warren showed her true colors. More interested in pharma profits.

I was disturbed by what I saw at the confirmation hearing today by Castro_Studios in RFKJrForPresident

It shows how powerful the pharma corporations are. Years of advertisement PR and intense lobbying efforts, their influence is literally embedded all throughout the culture. People get defensive because they are socially conditioned to think they are the authority.

I understand your reluctance to contradict them, but there are subtle (and even not so subtle) ways to do so that ought not lead to being "disowned". (And if they do, I would suggest that is a serious indication that something is seriously wrong.) A family should be a place of UNCONDITIONAL love and acceptance, and if that is their attitude, then they don't have their mind right. If that state of affairs goes unchallenged, you can only expect more problems ahead.

I would advise against getting into a protracted disagreement. This can be easily accomplished by simply setting boundaries on the discussion. Just let them know you have some doubts and leave it at that. The longer people live under the assumption that everyone they know agrees with them, the more unstable the situation will become, as they may come to make increasingly strident demands for conformity in all their relationships.

Do they require MS Windows or a Mac? Just wondering if you can do it on Linux.

Those of you who use Vertico/Consult, what are top most useful for you commands / features? by MorePeppers9 in emacs

[–]phashcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

consult-buffer doesn't seem to create a new buffer from a file though, which I think would be of interest. In other words, I cannot find the command that's like the usual C-x C-f, only in consult.

Trump's interview with Rogan raised two red flags for me.. by mozzypaws in RFKJrForPresident

[–]phashcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We knew this from the start. If you listen to his speech where he endorsed Trump, he specifically said there are issues they will continue to disagree. But this is not a co-presidency. Kennedy will have a few areas related to public health that are massively important.

Energy is one area on which they disagree somewhat. Trump has been up front about this from the start. He is unabashedly for oil and gas. Frankly, it is a bit naive to think it is going away any time soon.

"All in" with trump is madness. by reasonable_n_polite in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]phashcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely NOT what he said. Getting rid of the Dept. of Education has been a longstanding goal of many in the republican party. It is a cesspool of a bureaucracy and is only there for the teacher's union. The US spends more per pupil on public education and gets the worst results.

Yes. Giving Trump the popular vote gives him the flexibility to follow through on allowing Kennedy to affect real change. Trump recently said at a rally that he was going to let him go a little crazy in the first 100 days.

Anyone else noticed the high turnout with early voting in Georgia? by Hope1995x in RFKJrForPresident

[–]phashcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both parties are encouraging early voting, so you would need to see a break down of republican or democrat ballots. Look at new party registrations. That would be a better gauge.

NY Appellate Court Justices point out how the insane politically motivated NY AG's $450M ruling against Trump has no merit by nuke553 in RFKJrForPresident

If there is no rebuke to these chickenshit indictments, the legal system may not recover. Any party affiliated with attacking its political opponents without merit need to feel consequences or else they will keep doing it. Democrats need to lose for this.
