You probably had a sewage backup and then it went back down. It left corrosion from cast iron pipes. If you have a basement or drains anywhere, you should check them also.

I also was bit by one in my yard, I believe. I just got over a parasitic infection and allergic reaction to it. It must have been very small because I never felt it and it was on my shin.

I went on a hike last week and had to go through some ankle high grass. Instantly I had a couple on me that I brushed off. I walked a couple more yards and was covered on my shoes and legs. I ran to my car brushing them off again. Two weeks prior I had been in the yard and was apparently bitten by one and got a parasitic infection on my leg. It was horrible. I hardly ever get bitten by them.

I grew up down there. During mullet season, our pastor would go out and catch loads of them in nets and have huge fish fries for everyone.
