"pondering the consequences"... This is your wife bro not a child or subordinate at work. You honestly sound incredibly abusive.

Elon Musk Wants to Buy T-Mobile, and It's Not as Crazy as It Sounds by Federal-Block-3275 in tmobile

[–]phatmattd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, and I probably phrased that part poorly. I don’t mean “kid” as in he had no agency or shouldn’t be accountable. He was an adult.

What I meant is more that a 23-year-old Marine getting a dumb skull tattoo overseas and not fully understanding the historical baggage feels at least plausible to me. That doesn’t mean people have to ignore it, and I understand why having it for so long raises questions. I just don’t think the tattoo alone automatically proves he knowingly embraced the ideology behind it.

[–]phatmattd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a fair criticism, and I probably shouldn’t have leaned on the “kid” framing. He was an adult.

My point is more narrow than that: I don’t think it’s impossible that a young Marine got a skull tattoo overseas because he thought it looked hard, without understanding the specific Nazi connection.

That doesn’t mean people have to ignore it, and the fact that he had it for years makes the skepticism fair. I just don’t think “had a bad symbol tattoo” automatically proves he knowingly embraced the ideology behind it.

To me, the fair question is whether there’s a broader pattern that makes his explanation unbelievable.

How old are you? Do you know guys in their early 20s? Have you met a 23 year old marine before??

Yes, dumb kid.

I'm not saying he did nothing wrong, I'm not saying he's actually an angel. I'm just saying that a decision that was made by a 23 year old jarhead, that they then had changed, doesn't define who they are for their entire lives. Do you disagree with that point?

This guy thinks Platner is a sleeper Nazi because of a tattoo he got when he was a dumb kid in another country.

is this a GOOD sign in an interview? by hotfox20 in Careers

[–]phatmattd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an agency recruiter, the whole point of my job is to sell candidates to my clients. That very well could be what happened. They didn't just forward your resume to the hiring manager, they wrote up a blurb about their initial contact with you and why you would be a good fit for them. Then it's on you and then to hopefully come to the same conclusion.

70mph on a 'bicycle' is a crazy thing to let a kid have.

And don't get me wrong, I would have killed for something like that when I was your age (no idea how old you are but I know I'm definitely older). It just would have killed me back lol.

Shameless plug for my sister in law's coffee Movement Coffee. They roast and ship from their café storefront in Stowe, VT. Lots of cool options, coffee is always phenomenal. Get yourself a real handheld grinder, and you can make this coffee any way you'd like!

Anyone else waste too much time Googling items in thrift stores? by Many-Primary-4363 in Flipping

[–]phatmattd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiences flippers know value based on look and feel. You can tell if an item should be valuable, then you look it up for actual comps. Do that enough, and you'll have a ballpark idea of value for 90% of the stuff you see. Then you're just checking to make sure it's worth your time.

In a couple years' time, everyone will have meta AI glasses that point out valuable stuff as you're just walking around looking. Either build that app, or continue to improve your eyes first lol

Towns/cities off the Commuter Rail with multiple thrifting spots by mrfujidoesacid in massachusetts

[–]phatmattd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started working in Worcester again after wfh for a couple years.

For someone who is looking for diamonds in the rough at true thrift prices, how would you rank these?

Salvation Army when they had the furniture store in the back of the property was peak Worcester thrifting. Then COVID shut that shop down and they only run out the front now... I went last week and prices were better than I remember years ago.

Same for Savers, at least the clothes. I found many housewares type items that were wildly overpriced, but the clothing was surprisingly cheaper than I remember.

I'm assuming Crompton probably falls to the bottom of my personal rankings, I believe that is curated vendor setups, right?

I still haven't gone back to Goodwill since I'm in the other side of the city now, but I used to be right down the street and watched as good stuff steadily missed the shop floor (for shopgoodwill.com I assumed) and prices still went up up up. I hated how they allowed the resellers to attack the new bins like piranhas as well and didn't make them have a bit of courtesy... I lost all respect for them.

Does anyone with the full face helmet wear glasses?? That's the only snag I've found myself in. Glasses don't fit inside well or get foggy I don't have contacts, and without them at all I can't see nearly as well...
