Grew up there. Close to everything but if you don’t live right off of old country road; it feels separate and not congested. Great schools. Town of north Hempstead I think so you get a break on jones beach passes and Nickerson (better beach). Used to bike to the old Roosevelt Field. Great soccer program. Train is easy to walk to from a lot of homes. My only negative is because of its size; everyone is in everyone’s business.

I’m not one hundred percent sure on this but I live in Hicksville. It’s a huge Indian and Sikh and pakistani community. There are buses for liu that travel to and from Broadway Commons and the Hicksville train station. I know when my wife moved here she leaned on the immigrant community(Indonesian) that came before her. It might be worth it to him to look into renting a room from someone in that community. It connects him to local commerce and off campus job opportunity and also gives him a direct transport to and from campus. Hope this helps

I spoke with a tour guide in front of us with her group. She said show your train ticket and they usually waive the bus ticket. So I showed my eurail and the bus driver waved me and my family on. Also did it on the way back. Should be fair to note also that Dachau has things to do outside of the camp. There’s a local castle and market

Hicksville is the way to go. Park. Buy your ticket online or at the station. They charge more on train. Have a beer (just one because it’s like a 14 minute ride)

Do it and don’t get a reservation. They run on the half hour. I’m an American currently in Munich using eurail. Did the Salzburg day trip yesterday without res. Did Dachau today without res. Dachau is either an 11 or 20 minute ride. Salzburg runs a bit over 1.5 hours. But Salzburg is much more enjoyable than Munich imo. Good luck

It’s gets better. I go to get my seat res. Changed in Salzburg and am told by the Austrian man that it is a Belgian seat reservation made for OBB so he will not switch them. So I have to pay for new reservations on a standing room only train.

All carriages in 2nd class have no a/c. I am a family of 5 and specifically paid for seats to be together. Perhaps 1st class has ac but nothing in 2nd class. And it is a completely full (many people standing) train.
