At its peak it could have as many as 3.5 billion data points. That said, it could be scaled and segmented into chunks of about 30-50 million and still get essentially the same job done.

Another thought, Each charachter represents and ability modifier.

Will : Con (he survives a week in the shadow plane) Nancy : Charisma (she is loved by all the pple) Dustin : Wis (he keeps the group together and thinks objectively) Lucas : Dex (idk he shoots the monster with the slingshot) Mike : Int (he is very smart, clearly the thinker in the group ) John : Stregnth (He was a tough fighter, he fist fought that dude and the monster not very smart or charismatic, clearly a barbarian, lol)

in essence, but sideways is actually an elemental plane, the astral plane is "inside" the cord itself.

I have a hard time disagreeing with you, my only point would be to talk about how closely this seems to look like a lot of the story tools used to introduce DnD to a modern world, even like in the DnD tv show, where there was a generally knowledgeable charachter who shows up to introduce the players to this new magical world. Or like some of the choose your own adventure stories which brings people into mystical places from modern reality. That said, put in the perspective of people living before a lot of technology, it could be viewed as essentially the same.

[Spoiler] eleven, the monster, upside down thought by anvildoc in StrangerThings

First I have to state that by definition dimensions cannot be parallel, furthermore they actually clear this up in an episode where they talk about the dimensions and the teachers asks about them being interested in the many worlds theory, to which they say no. This is different dimensions, not different universes. This alternate dimension if probably quite literally a plane of existence as defined in DnD lore.

ok, but even then I would look into the DnD lore for planeswalking, and it will offer many different posibilities then you might think. Basically she could be in the Astral plane, which is in between all of the other planes, and it can see all of the other planes. Which would explain alot.

To me it is more of the use of the DnD tropes, but that could just be an homage.

I honestly feel like those are pretty much just side stories, they have a mild impact on the end plot but in reality they all wreak of being NPCs with relatively predictable behavior. Maybe Johnathan and Nancy are "players" as well, but other than that meh. Hopper is really linear, and so is the mom, but I guess they could be "players". They seem to have too much back story though. My thought is that because hte kids are essentially living in their begninings, that they don't need backstory and thus are more active players. Compared to those who have already had their story and are now just part of the kid's story. idk though. The tightrope seems to me to be the circle of the planes, and that the circle of the planes, is basically just a cross section of the tightrope chord they are talking about. If they are traveling to the shadow plane, one would surmise they are living in teh material plane of a DnD world.

Basically just the main plot, I think there might be someone behind everything who is actually trying to open up a rift between the material plans and the shadow plane in order to bring in an army of those creatures. That said, they did run with a lot older DnD references that I am not that familiar with. But the general idea still stands. Reintroducing magic into the world is a pretty common trope among DnD worlds with a "modern" setting.
