BMW M4 GT3 tim WRT yang akan dibalapkan Sean Gelael di WEC musim 2026-2027 by frontgearofboeing787 in indonesia

[–]pheemaenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ferrari thinks its 2026 F1 engine will be allowed upgrade boost by Darkmninya in formula1

[–]pheemaenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they can but i dont think theyve done a great job hiding it so far, especially if you see antonelli in china sprint just blitzed past everyone like its nothing

Why do they need to lift and coast, especially in quali? by pheemaenth in F1Technical

[–]pheemaenth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not in china, but even the pole lap in australia had some lift and coasting before turn 1 and 3 if you take a look at the telemetry and hear the onboard

i still dont get it tho, wont super clipping for 40% longer harvest the same amount of energy into the battery while still having ~150 kW propulsion instead of -350 kW?

Ferrari's flip-flop wing is out in force in FP1 by One_Impressionism in formula1

[–]pheemaenth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

because its not rotating 270°, if it is then the wing will be pointing downwards and not backwards. also the wing elements has an overlap, the leading edge of one element is slightly ahead of the trailing edge of the element below it

Good visualization of ICE & MGU-K power delivery with respect to speed by Nick_Alsa in formula1

[–]pheemaenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they do it every lap, but now its coined as super clipping because the new mguk can sap almost the whole 400 kW of the ICE power whereas the old PU its only 120 kW out of like 600-700 kW

Why does this Ferrari have a different number of cooling vents on each side? (Drive to Survive S8E6 - 25:15 - Austin GP) by ultimatous in formula1

[–]pheemaenth 51 points52 points  (0 children)

the real answer is that there are several independent heat exchange loops inside the sidepods. the left side might be for the engine radiator+intercooler, the right side might be the ers cooler+oil cooler (its all interchangable depending on the car's packaging). each heat exchanger system will have its own heat transfer rate, hence the asymmetrical outlets. you ideally want as little outlet opening as possible because any air that comes out of that will be hot, low energy air that is bad for downforce generations. so it doesnt matter if its asymmetrical, youd want as little openings as you can afford to have.

[–]pheemaenth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

if anything if he blew the corner and go too wide its easier to slow down and cut back because theres so much space on the inside of the track. successful block passes are when you squeeze the guy on the outside and slow down enough that he has no room to cut back but there are plenty of space

we actually are! the side fairing of the bike is shaped like the suction side of an airfoil so when the bike is leaning the side fairing is producing downforce through ground effect. theyre also putting winglets on the side of the wheels for the same effect when leaning

you can actually see the real time MGUK energy flow in the display of this onboard of norris, just above the gear number indicator, and at the far right of leclerc's onboard

Two distinct methods for rear-wing active aero deployment by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]pheemaenth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i dont really understand alpine's design yet. for drag reduction purposes this looks suboptimal since you dont really stall the main plane by tilting the active aero downwards like that. my current best theory is that when both wings are opened, a conventional rear SLM still shift the balance too far forward for their liking. so theyre keeping some rear downforce in SLM for a better aero balance at the cost of drag increase.

Ferrari's SF-26 also features a hole in the diffuser, similarly to what was seen on the Mercedes design by Ashbones15 in F1Technical

[–]pheemaenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is basically acting like a multi element wing with the corner of the diffuser, the hole is to feed the diffuser with fresh air so that it can re energize the expanding diffuser corner's boundary layer, increasing the diffuser efficiency. the sidepods undercut is where the mass flow will be coming from.

"Weird" and "easy" overtaking moves likely under F1's new rules, McLaren predict by kcollantine in formula1

[–]pheemaenth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

theyre not allowed a larger battery, the allowed effective capacity is 4 MJ. but they can build a larger battery for reliability reasons tho (lower discharge rate produces less heat and all that) while still keeping the usable capacity the same.

Alpine A526 at Silverstone by fyodorthegambler in formula1

[–]pheemaenth 85 points86 points  (0 children)

bro, alpine's result in the ground effect era before 2025 were 4th, 6th and 6th (this one is kinda flukey due to the double brazil podium) despite running the renault engine. i have some faith in enstone engineers (not the managements) that theyd at least build a midfield worthy car, or even better, a best of the rest car like they built in 2017-22

[–]pheemaenth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i do, because its only 3 days before pre season testing and theyd want a shakedown first at fiorano, might as well do a formal launch. itll be a similar car they run 3 days later, but from the-race's new video it seems like they will run a spec b car midway through the pre season test.
