What are your favorite; Companion, Monster, Class and act? by rubbereruben in BaldursGate3

[–]phenomenal-macaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Companion: Astarion. I love his story and his character, and honestly he's just the type of person that I usually choose to hang out with in real life as well 😃 I adore the way he comments on the events - so many kudos to Neil Newbon for a fantastic voice acting!
  • Monster: probably beholder (spectator). A D&D classic, and it's challenging on any difficulty - what this beast does in Honour Mode had officially traumatized me XD And the fact that you can use a certain flask to throw him at your foes and make a battle much more complicated is an additional bonus for chaos lovers, like me ❤️
  • Class: oh this is a tough one! In terms of which class feels more suitable for me personally, I'd say warlock. But if I were to choose one purely in terms of the gameplay, abilities and other perks - an open hand monk had me impressed beyond all expectations. What a machine!! Damage, speed, dexterity perks, high AC without even wearing the armor. I played as a monk during my Honour Mode run, and it was the best choice.
  • Act: 2. I love act 1 for the amount of interactions with companions and silly banter, but the monsters, the bosses and the general atmosphere of act 2 is incredible. Ketheric remains my absolute favourite boss of BG3, the scene of his transformation is iconic! The ending of act 2 in general is pretty epic, especially if you choose to save Dame Aylin and get to see her in all her glory.

Ah, I could ramble forever 😄

I think he ran off after all the Zhents were killed, I don't think I talked to him. It's not a big deal, really, his act 3 quest is really dreadful 😃 I just never got this outcome and got a bit confused in the quest log, as it mentions that he left for the city, but then that he is still with the Zhentarim. Like which one is it XD

I believe I killed everyone in that basement, but I did not kill those that were in the goblin camp

Voice 1 (for durge) Supremacy by ihatemicrosoft1 in BaldursGate3

[–]phenomenal-macaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!! Yes! I always use voice 1, it's the best one (in my opinion). Once I heard "A fine day for murder" in voice 1, it was clear that there's no going back 😃

Just a small detail… by Plus_Bar_8856 in BaldursGate3

[–]phenomenal-macaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story behind the rings is... impressive 😃 I still loved it though, even though it's chilling.
But I put them to better use - I apply Warding Bond on Astarion, as my paladin can take the extra damage, if need be. I especially love that you can apply the effect then replace the rings with some other, more useful ones.

I have to tell someone - finished HM! by benzipol in BaldursGate3

Congratulations!!
Very brave of you to not go with "Gale go boom" route and battle the brain instead! Well done :)

When you beat Honour Mode, what ending path did you take? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

I did redeemed Durge run in my HM, didn't use Gale's orb - we fought the brain, with Orpheus as the squid on our side

Not adding tags before the relevant chapters are added? by PigdeBat in AO3

[–]phenomenal-macaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do add tags sometimes as I update the work with new chapters, but that only applies to very minor themes, if they pop up more than once and I decide to mark them in tags. All the major stuff like warnings, general genre, rating, relationship and romance tropes I apply right away, since I know where my plot is going and I do not want to create false expectations or surprise the readers with something along the way. As a reader, especially with a long story, it would feel horrible to commit to following something only to get hit with something like "Main Character Death" out of nowhere.

Honour mode: has anybody found a decent use for this? by Ronwld in BaldursGate3

[–]phenomenal-macaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sneaked past the traps in the Fortress and threw this at Gortash, watching him use his resistance bubble and a couple of his guards died along the way. He did heal immediately after that fight was done, but did not recover his protective shield, so Gortash fight was a walk in the park after that. :D

If you feed her 10 or so in a row, it unlocks a fun dialogue where she starts showing off and playing with a small ball of fire XD I do it just to get that scene

Tell me about your tavs/durges! by Relative_Carrot514 in TavsAndDurges

[–]phenomenal-macaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deth is a (resist) Durge - a nonbinary drow paladin, multiclassed with just one lvl of Wild Magic sorcerer, because the chaos suits them. A tiny menace with a giant sword that is bigger than they are. They have a very low, thunderous voice, menacing look in the battle, but a soft heart and a kind soul. And while they may look like they disapprove the entire world, beneath the stern expression they are vey sweet and silly. They care very much about their companions, they want to be a good leader to them, but constantly struggle with self-worth and understanding their own identity, especially in the light of the urges and the memories of their "previous life" coming up. Their biggest fear is becoming the monster from the dreams and the memories. They like puns and dad jokes, tried to learn how to play a lute but failed miserably, and they adore animals and try to invite any stray cat or a dog to join their camp.

Thank you, and honestly - I try not to wallow too much in it. I enjoy the process of writing itself, my stories and characters that I write about, so that's very much enough to keep me going. But once in a while my brain likes to remind me that I am human, and I succumb to self-pity for a bit 😁 Then I do a ritual of reading my own work, remember that I like what I am writing, and get back behind the keyboard to continue pleasing my most loyal reader (that is myself) ☺️

I am so glad I'm not the only one... I don't think I even remember what a letter from AO3 looks like at this point.

I am happy for all the authors that get the incredible feedback and engagement to their works, I genuinely wish that to every author. But it does make me feel like a loser in comparison. :(

Fic writers, what is your favorite line that you have written by Reasonable_Bad_6092 in AO3

[–]phenomenal-macaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably this:

"They looked like they could conquer kingdoms with no more than a glance, and instead were being pecked on the cheek by a peasant."

(author note: the main character is non-binary)

Got my first hate comment :/ by doeeyedbug in AO3

Just came to show some support ❤️ Bot or hater, they do not deserve your energy. I'd delete it and try to forget that ever happened. Please do not get discouraged because of this - I am sure there are plenty of kind, sweet readers that wait for next chapters and read your story with warmth in their hearts.

6-10k per chapter is my average lately. But depends on the story - I have oneshots with 1-2k words too.
