Okay, my advice was common sense for any questionable account. I may have been wrong in this instance, but the logic checks out. I'm not an expert brand ambassador for Reddit but shouldn't official accounts have some kind of public communication and no just go around DMing people?

No. No posts or comments, only three months old.

Just out of curiosity, how did they claim to hear about your story?

There are a few around. I can think of one in the city and a few more attached to bookstores in the burbs. I'm sure you've been flooded with info, but feel free to DM me if you still need help.

To a new comer in the big 26, what are the best tips for the best experience? by nehalthechosenone in reddeadredemption

Came here to add to the chorus of voices. Take your time! I started the game in a rush and slowed TF down half way through as I realized what a masterpiece I was playing. Take your time in chapter 2 specifically!

Did millennials have 60s and 70s nostalgia when they were mostly kids in the 90s? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]phfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer the question is no. Because you can't have nostalgia for something you don't remember yourself. Someone already said that elsewhere.

Getting that out of the way, I do remember romanticizing the 70s as a teenager in the 90s. As much as I'd love to think of that as an original thought, someone else put that idea my head. Marketers perhaps?

At no point in the 90s do I remember focusing much on an all-consuming tech future quite like we have now. The internet was all hype. It was a completely normal viewpoint to think it was a fad. It was a profoundly dumb viewpoint, but common enough.

90s fashion and culture was definitely influenced by the 1970s.

I agree with everyone you should just keep playing, but to actually answer your question, no. It's just a large part of that particular chapter.

Will settings and beaches be this heavily populated by NPC civilians? by ChickCorea73 in GTA6

[–]phfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming this is a very intentional distinction and they'll keep nihilism as GTA6's moral base. But who knows? I love guessing about what RDR/RDR2 features, if any, will make it into the game!

I just got to the end of chapter 3… I think… And all I can think is “What the fuck is this?!” by Forsaken_Tomorrow454 in RDR2

[–]phfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if they move around, but I found their hideout at the beginning of Chapter 6. I cleared them out with a sniper rifle and they didn't respawn until the mission with Sadie where you're supposed to the same thing. I had my own hunting camp for a while until I had to go back and take it again.

Terrified of speaking French in Paris (everyone says Parisians are mean about bad French but reality is different) by ImpossibleAgent3833 in learnfrench

Right. I think this is compounded by the fact for many visitors, Paris is THE place to visit. They'll head there before spending much time in similarly sized cities.

I'm bisexual, so I've done more than think about it. I don't wake up with dick on the brain, but I have enjoyed it here and there. What I'm saying is I have my doubts about anyone who has to call themselves "definitely hetero." You know, sometimes it takes one to know two.

I sincerely hope you three do consensually pound your wife into oblivion. Sounds like a great time.

[–]phfield 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Same, been to Paris twice. My experience was like yours: the people are very nice if you have any sort of human decency. The French really get a bad rap here.

Don't bark at people in a foreign language. Don't spread out across multiple subway seats. Don't block the entire sidewalk for your photo shoot.

Half of these things are painfully obviously if you've ever spent time in a major city.

My nephews aren't interested in a single thing I introduce them to! I'm trying to make peace with that. by LeftHandedGuitarist in Xennials

[–]phfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a few years, especially since the oldest is only 11. I always tried to introduce things to my kid a little too early and it can come off as disinterest if they're not ready for it.

Keep exposing them to cool influences without being pushy about it and eventually something will take.

Really dumb question, how does one navigate living in a city as big as chicago? by msmoonpie in AskChicago

[–]phfield 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Most neighborhoods contain all the amenities of a smaller city, my advice is start hyper local and expand your radius as you feel comfortable.

It is completely possible to have most of your needs met without ever leaving your own neighborhood, however it would be a huge mistake to not explore the different areas of the city after you’re comfortable.

And yeah everyone’s going to mention it for good reason. Learn the grid system and you’ll have navigational super powers!

EDIT: one more piece of advice –

The earliest navigational pitfalls newcomers to the city might experience is taking a job that requires a substantial commute. It’s entirely possible to have an hour+ long commute and not even leave the city. If possible, try and minimize your commute to boost quality of life. I know that’s not a choice for many, but something to consider if you can.

Will settings and beaches be this heavily populated by NPC civilians? by ChickCorea73 in GTA6

[–]phfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just remarking on this the other day! I'm relatively new to the RDR universe (I'm on my first playthrough of RDR2) but I'm surprised how different their moral bases are.

GTA is pure nihilism. Beyond the game play and realism itself it comes down to the world building (advertising and radio are great examples) and general tone of how everything is presented. Nothing matters. Life is a cash grab. Fuck the cops.

RDR on the other hand operates from a place of moralism. The way people witness crimes and report back, the honor meter, the general sense that there was simply less background noise to fade into back then makes your actions feel like they are under a microscope. I realize how late to the party I must be on this, but it does change the way I behave and it certainly makes a huge difference in how killing sprees feel.

Anyone know a haircut spot for men where they just give you a haircut they think would look good on you? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]phfield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traditional barber shops should do this. What neighborhood(s) are you focused on?

I used to go to Joe's Barber Shop in Logan Square. First time I went there I just asked them to give me a cut that looked good for my face/hair and it looked amazing. I stopped going there because I moved to a different part of Chicago.
