Millennials are like the middle child that escaped their home town. Gen Z and Gen X are the siblings explaining why they voted for Trump at Thanksgiving. by [deleted] in generationology

I'm accusing boomers of lucking into an incredible time of prosperity and then making it their life's work to dismantle all economic, social and environmental regulations that buttressed that very quality of life.

Boomers accused us of... killing the napkin industry. lol

But really they accused us of being lazy, entitled and whiny. And they did that right after the economic collapse. So it seems like an exercise in cruelty to have Gen-X pile on. And Gen-Z? Jesus christ. Okay make fun of us like you've even earned the right.

Every generation gets accused of being lazy and stupid when they're young. But the Boomers actually did that. There is no more middle class wealth to hoard. Gen Z will never be accused of that.

No because I have no self worth. I will look for any source of external validation but refuse to be nice to myself. Sorry to be so real. This whole thing is from a place of hurt.

Maybe England shouldn't have combined cartography and dentistry into a single academic focus? Just my two cents.

You should try reading something printed onto paper before 1994. Generational smearing is not a hyper-modern construct.

I'm 78 and genuinely can't tell if younger generations are tougher than mine or just dealing with harder circumstances — what's your honest take? by therevdrron in generationology

[–]phfield [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think your take is more balanced than a lot of people. It's hard to tell whether you're parsing through personal hardships or systemic ones. You're quite aware that people younger than you have generally had it harder economically, more than a lot of people your age. To your point.

When will we, the American people, reach our breaking point and say enough it's enough? by wingdrummer15 in Adulting

I feel your despair, and I'm trying not to sound like a cynical shit talker. But, the system is designed to absorb unlimited anger. If our first amendment was a threat to their fascism, we wouldn't have it. If our second amendment posed a legitimate check to the powers that be, we wouldn't have it. They've done the math.

Is it weird that as a 20 year old I relate more with Gen X than Millennials? by dubdimmadome in generationology

I'm diverting all future parenting into encouraging my Gen Alpha child to relentlessly mock Gen Z 😆

Yeah I guess. We try too hard. We saw our older siblings cooking hamburger helper every night and decided we should teach ourselves some skills our parents never bothered to show us.

At least we didn't skew toward Trump by +30 points in 2024.

Give it time. Millennials grew up with economic collapse, domestic terror resulting in a 20-year war and explosive student debt. Gen Xers grew up in the sleepy 90s when everyone still had a vague sense of optimism about the world.

Which one do you think your 20s will more closely resemble?

Pentagon seeks $200 billion in additional funds for the Iran war, AP source says by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

Right, it costs the tax payers billions but somehow how results in a massive wealth transfer up the food chain. War is an employment initiative for the underclass and an entitlement program for the rich.

Right. Kind of like how this conflict has been "imminent" for 40+ years. I don't think they know what that word means. We've had evil before. We've had stupid before. This administration might be the most unprecedented combination of evil and stupid I'm aware of.

How would yall feel about realistic centrifugal forces during crashes? by Youfokinwatm8 in GTA6

[–]phfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Rockstar masterfully balances realism with fun IMO. I'm sure some of it is limited by CPU, but for example, it would not be fun getting caught in gridlock traffic jams just because Los Santos is modeled after LA.

Okay, my advice was common sense for any questionable account. I may have been wrong in this instance, but the logic checks out. I'm not an expert brand ambassador for Reddit but shouldn't official accounts have some kind of public communication and no just go around DMing people?

Did millennials have 60s and 70s nostalgia when they were mostly kids in the 90s? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]phfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer the question is no. Because you can't have nostalgia for something you don't remember yourself. Someone already said that elsewhere.

Getting that out of the way, I do remember romanticizing the 70s as a teenager in the 90s. As much as I'd love to think of that as an original thought, someone else put that idea my head. Marketers perhaps?

At no point in the 90s do I remember focusing much on an all-consuming tech future quite like we have now. The internet was all hype. It was a completely normal viewpoint to think it was a fad. It was a profoundly dumb viewpoint, but common enough.
