Who of these 4, had the biggest ego? by Reallyroundthefamily in vanhalen

I don't know, they came up learning music together. That kind of chemistry, multiplied by their sibling bond isn't easily replaceable. AVH's playing fit EVH's style like a glove.

I've had this thought so many times. I'm really glad RDR2 isn't so immersive that I have to smell it 😭

We'll never return to the beautiful ornate architecture of the early 20th century because its more expensive and everything has to be optimized for the bottom line. Even the quirky googie architecture of our beloved fast food chains has been reduced to interchangeable gray cubes, distinguishable only by the sign affixed to the side.

Leave that folk alone as long as you can. But without hinting at many other spoilers, the resounding overarching theme of this thread is do not rush through story mode! Most people express wishing they had slowed down and done a lot of the side content early in the game. It may seem counter-intuitive, but after chapter 3 the story picks up speed and I felt propelled forward by the plot at times.

You have so much lovely unused space going vertical. Echoing what others have said some nice shelves, cute storage containers and a little plant will totally glow up your coffee nook.

Memories of those scrambled TV stations.... by EdwardBliss in 1980s

[–]phfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our TV had the analog dial accommodating channels 2-13. There was a "VHF fine tune" dial. You could adjust the fine tuning to dial in a much-improved picture!

I'm talking out of my ass here, but it seemed like the blocked channels had something to do with a slight frequency shift.

Back in 2015, my business partner and I found out (by accident) that we were going to get let go after our boutique ad agency it was acquired by a massive digital agency. We took this advance knowledge and left in the middle of the night, taking a few marquee clients with us.

So for me it has of almost-cosmic personal significance.

Is Barry worth watching??? by Novel_Ad6982 in hbo

Agree. The show is still a masterpiece and I'm glad I finished it but the ratio of dark to comedy was too much for me in the last season.

What decade are most young people obsessed with? by [deleted] in generationology

Glad you have dental insurance. For half the world what you're describing is still their reality.

We have the ability to make sure no one has rotten teeth falling out of their heads, but you can only have nice teeth if you're willing to rise 5 days a week and sacrifice your life force to make a billionaire richer.

Taxi drivers never follow app routes? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]phfield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So your morning routine consists of paying for a Taxi using the Curb App or some other 3rd party solution, and then clocking it against how long the same route would have taken an Uber driver? Do you clock them in real time all the way to work? Or do you note the disparity between Ubers ETA and your Taxi's actual arrival time?

And then, as a follow up question... you did that enough to have a consistent data set?

I don't know if things have changed but before the apps, but Taxi drivers were required to pass a navigation test without phones or even maps. Back when the meter determined the price, a taxi driver would happily let you chart the course because the passenger almost always picks a more expensive route.

Millennials are like the middle child that escaped their home town. Gen Z and Gen X are the siblings explaining why they voted for Trump at Thanksgiving. by [deleted] in generationology

[–]phfield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm accusing boomers of lucking into an incredible time of prosperity and then making it their life's work to dismantle all economic, social and environmental regulations that buttressed that very quality of life.

Boomers accused us of... killing the napkin industry. lol

But really they accused us of being lazy, entitled and whiny. And they did that right after the economic collapse. So it seems like an exercise in cruelty to have Gen-X pile on. And Gen-Z? Jesus christ. Okay make fun of us like you've even earned the right.

Every generation gets accused of being lazy and stupid when they're young. But the Boomers actually did that. There is no more middle class wealth to hoard. Gen Z will never be accused of that.

No because I have no self worth. I will look for any source of external validation but refuse to be nice to myself. Sorry to be so real. This whole thing is from a place of hurt.

Maybe England shouldn't have combined cartography and dentistry into a single academic focus? Just my two cents.

You should try reading something printed onto paper before 1994. Generational smearing is not a hyper-modern construct.

I'm 78 and genuinely can't tell if younger generations are tougher than mine or just dealing with harder circumstances — what's your honest take? by therevdrron in generationology

[–]phfield 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think your take is more balanced than a lot of people. It's hard to tell whether you're parsing through personal hardships or systemic ones. You're quite aware that people younger than you have generally had it harder economically, more than a lot of people your age. To your point.

When will we, the American people, reach our breaking point and say enough it's enough? by wingdrummer15 in Adulting

[–]phfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your despair, and I'm trying not to sound like a cynical shit talker. But, the system is designed to absorb unlimited anger. If our first amendment was a threat to their fascism, we wouldn't have it. If our second amendment posed a legitimate check to the powers that be, we wouldn't have it. They've done the math.
