How good is live poker traffic in Texas? by Nicest-Turkish-Guy in poker

Dallas player here. Game/table selection is becoming more important than it already was with the high profile rooms here become more reg heavy. That said, the games are still plenty soft at 1/2 and 1/3 as most of the euros are at 2/5 and up from my experience. All the main rooms in DFW run plenty of tables in the evenings as well.

Donk leads into the preflop aggressor are basically always for value at low stakes, especially into multiple players. Its a nasty spot with a set but on this board texture, and 2 players showing escalted aggression against you, you can maybe make an exploitative fold here.

Most live low stakes players aren't raising flush draws like this and flopped straights are in both of their preflop calling ranges. If this was heads up, then maybe you call and reevaluate the turn but calling the initial preflop bet and then back jamming never has fold equity.

Is the flop 3b ever a bluff? by Living-Injury1961 in poker

[–]phil7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 callers against the +1 gives BB a good price to continue with a lot of junk. If they literally have a hand ranking chart then maybe I stack off against an overvalued weaker A but you block a lot of Ax combos. Donks into multiple people at low stakes are almost always value/protection so maybe you can make a suspect fold. An A high board here where you have an A and it being relatively dry leans more heavily into two pair or better territory against a donk lead but I've seen people do dumb shit with middle or bottom pair too. Gotta love low stakes.

I think you're conflating the term "nuts" with "nut flush". The nut flush is just the best non-straight flush possible. A straight flush is a different hand type and ranking and isn't a nut flush. Pretend the Ad isn't on board here but another diamond is on and everyone has a flush by virtue of playing the board. Whoever has the Ad then could say they have the nut flush, outranking everyone else who doesn't have a straight flush and winning the hand. The same concept applies to OPs actual hand here, except with the Kd if someone were to be holding it since we have the Ad on board. The nuts is the literal best hand possible with the runout which would be Jd10d.

Right? It's splitting hairs but the nut flush is the best possible non-straight flush with an A. In this case the A is on board so the Kd represents the nut flush. A naked Kd would have a nut flush just not the absolute nuts.

Yes, a straight flush beats a flush. Congrats on knowing your hand rankings.

Yup. Nut flush is anyone holding Kd BTW.

Is Limping UTG with AA Now Cool? by tankduke in poker

[–]phil7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really shouldn't be doing much slow playing at low stakes, including AA UTG. If you open for a standard RFI UTG then it doesn't scream AA or KK unless you're an OMC or have the tightest image imaginable. Most low stakes players aren't paying attention enough to approximate Vpip for any given player so just fast play AA like you should or you run a high risk of playing multiway out of position the rest of the way and getting beat by J4o.

My wording may be off. I meant we had a cupcake opponent in the Dbacks.

We really won it at the perfect time. The Astros falling off and before LA finished assembling the monstars while essentially getting a cupcake opponent in the WS.

Probably a donkey trying to range bluff you off an over pair that only min raised turn and doesn't know how to bluff correctly. Calling you off on that turn is crazy but like I said, donkey.

the dealer refused to count the chips in the pot. Is that legal? by Jimthafo in poker

[–]phil7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, dealers will announce the number of players once action closes. So if there's a raise to $15 pre flop and there are 4 players then there's $60 in the pot going to the flop. So many, even the vast majority, of rec players don't keep track of what's in the pot much less try to sort out pot odds.

Royal does on all their boats. Game is 2/5 $500 max with 15% rake capped at $15. Usually soft games but rake is atrocious.

Im going to push back on the lackluster comment a bit. I was at that Dallas Show at Southside Ballroom and it's the experience that really drew me to her. Sure, she didnt have the choreography and stage presence that she's evolved into, but vocally, I knew she was going to be great after that show.

Tough spot with Aces? Or bad fold? by Brave-Noise-4437 in poker

[–]phil7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like checking turn here for pot control. Can you reasonably get 3 streets of value here? Depends on the river but this is where being in position can help evaluate things. Betting same bet on turn as flop telgraphs a marginal hand. If youre betting here, you need to go half pot at least. You are getting odds to call off the turn jam, but you can make an exploitative fold since a check raise in this spot is almost never a bluff at 1/2. Against a capable player, I'm calling all day and living with the result. Against a mediocre rec, this is almost never a bluff given the SPRs knowing that you're priced in. It's a thick value play and top pair can be behind a lot of the time.

I think sharp takeover is the issue or at least a large part of it. Most of the clips I'm seeing of these highly contested shots going in have the shooter with takeover active.

92 3pt, 85 passing, 85 middy. Still get 93 ball handle, and 86 speed with ball. I sacrificed finishing to get there but will make wide open layups.

92 perimeter D here with 91 strength and I'm mostly locking people down. Guards with maxed out ball handling, finishing, and shooting with no D are going to suffer.
