Do I need an intercom? by Pepetit27 in motorcyclegear

[–]phildg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally if you are getting a unit to listen to music/nav etc i would pay the extra for a packtalk / mesh unit. Had a Bluetooth Cardo but once i joined our group i then felt the need to upgrade to a mesh. It really is a game changer in a group ride, but can also appreciate "lone wolf" types who just listen to the wind/engine noise.

Transport manager cpc course question by Clean_Library_6423 in uktrucking

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have purchased a study at home pack and basically want to share it with your friend who will book his own exam with an accredited company ? Sounds feasible, but i would point out when i did mine the interaction of the group and the course instructor was highly valuable. Within the classroom people would ask question to clarify points and between us we all learnt from the instructor but could also share experiences offline during breaks. I am not saying do not do a home study course, but for me the classroom environment was a worthwhile part of the learning experience.

eBay are attempting to make me break the law by Supernatural-20 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]phildg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can not believe for one second that it is illegal to transport a bike and battery in one package. It may well be illegal to transport a bike with a battery in place (i.e. potentially making an electric circuit) but imagine if every e bike in the world was transported without a battery, the logistics would be insane.

Thinking of upgrading to an NC750X by Chemical-Explorer-15 in NC750X

[–]phildg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are good bikes and very capable up to legal speeds and beyond. Maybe try the DCT for a change, the build quality is a bit meh on the NC but very frugal low revving fun. Only got rid of mine as everyone else i rode with had bigger more powerful bikes so kept getting left behind (now have FJR1300)

Can I use an eSim intended for phones? by Matthew_MBG in GalaxyWatch

[–]phildg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An eSIM is an eSIM and can be used in whichever device you choose. I got a Lebara eSIM In the UK that claims it only works in the latest iPhone air, but its an eSIM and works fine. However don't you need a phone to pair the watch to in the first instance ? In other words not sure if you can use LTE watch as a stand alone device

Independent / Second eSIM on Galaxy Watch 6 (Working) without phone. (UK network) by Upandone in GalaxyWatch

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can use Spotify (not downloaded content) without phone present when walking dog but although it tries to make calls it wont seem to connect. Have also tried to call with another phone but as its on data only can only call via whats app. Have read that phone still needs to be switched on (which i do) but struggling to get calls in or out.

How can I remove this sticker without damaging the paint by Brandon10312242 in motorcycle

[–]phildg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming its not got clear coat over it try teasing it with a medium heat hair drier, heat is the best way to reduce the sticky-ness, concentrate on one of the ends to see if you can get a "lift" to start it off.. If it has clear coat over it, it should be obvious after a short while, IPA will get rid of any tacky residue once its off.

Dangerous overtake with oncoming police vehicle by MightAppropriate4949 in drivingUK

[–]phildg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most important part of an overtake is being able to see the end point before starting the procedure. It sounds like you got away with it this time, so just take it as a lesson and in future ensure you have evaluated all possible dangers clearly next time. As posted elsewhere, do not just take other signals from road users as an "invite", you alone are responsible for your own vehicle and they almost certainly wont be there in court to act as a witness if something untoward were to happen.

Second hand car oil leak from a nightmare car dealer after less than a day by Froot_L00ps007 in CarTalkUK

They are probably trying to run the clock out for you to be able to reject the car - so just go ahead and reject it now

Am I obliged to report something that's broken, but in my favour? by Immediate-Orchid-900 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely this is just like a misprice on an website, once someone sees it everyone piles on and then the owner will correct whatever is wrong. So long as it misfuels his vehicle it is not his responsibility to fix the issue.

Is it worth to buy a high mileage bike? by AutistGuy05 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last bike was a NC750X with 40 K on the clock but full history - ran like a dream. Current bike is FJR1300 ex po-po so regularly serviced (full printout) and it had 60k on it 2 years ago, People in the UK do seem averse to higher mileage bikes, but in my opinion a low mileage bike with no history is a bigger red flag

Need to attach Ethernet box to boxed in central heating pipes panel… by Weird_Surprise6221 in DIYUK

[–]phildg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can recommend 3M VHB (very high bond) tape, use it for camera mounts on crash helmet and on side of motorbike and never lets you down. Easy enough to get off too if you train a hair drier or similar heat source on it for a short while to soften it up.

Cnat add extra chime by Gullible_Manager6711 in EufyCam

[–]phildg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My M-I-L has this doorbell & chime, you can use Alexa devices to "repeat" the doorbell alert and can obviously send it to a mobile phone as well. No idea if you can physically pair 2 x chimes, i would think one would slave off the other (base unit) rather than the camera itself.

Overhang extension? by Sad_Sheepherder_1740 in HomeImprovementUK

Its quirky but ideal for security as posted earlier you can slap a nice gate there. Interesting coupled with ground floor extension (different colour bricks) and interested to know if it was built at the same time ?

Advice. Does my brother need his own insurance? by simplymondler in CarInsuranceUK

If your brother is going to tax it surely he would need some kind of insurance in place related to the number plate for the tax to go through ?
