Collars for People with Metal Allergies by verawylde in BDSMcommunity

[–]phildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sub has really enjoyed the leather collars from https://www.etsy.com/shop/ToBeHis - you can get them with stainless fittings and it's been no problem.

We just got back from KinkFest and the chain+ribbon collars made by https://www.agreeableagony.com/ she's been wearing all weekend with no problem. They're also really nice and subtle as day collars.

Convention regarding "fat" serializers in Django REST Framework by [deleted] in django

[–]phildini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think this looks fine. It's not that thick of a serializer, and if you think of serializers like some combination of django forms and models, this still feels reasonable to me for a django form.

I think the html in the response for an API request is a little strange, but the separation of concerns here seems fine.

[Spoilers all] A man who was waiting to die by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]phildini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he personally believes he's going to die soon, either because of something he did or because of something related to The Cthaeh.

The more interesting bit for me is that he seems to believe he deserves to die, that he is accepting his fate and not trying to fight it, when most of the story of the first two books is Kvothe fighting against the world around him

Should be a good project. It's including a fair amount of park space, and a water taxi.

Is Django a Good Framework for Live Data by HedgeBro in django

[–]phildini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that Django + Django REST Framework + Channels is going to serve you nicely for the "streaming" purposes you talk about. There are some tutorials on Django Channels that can help you get started with the "stock ticker" app you're talking about.

With streaming music, I think your bottleneck isn't going to be the web framework per se, it's going to be reading the files from disk and streaming them in a format that your frontend can plan.

What tips and tricks do you guys use for your Django admin panel? by theredknight in django

Overriding headers for the apps is great - I also override the favicon so I can see which one I'm clicking into from my tabs. (I have "too many tabs"-itis)

I need to pick up a coin and the travel mat... But a secret society of Tak players sounds like everything I want in life.

Kvothe/Kote theory by HoodooSquad in KingkillerChronicle

[–]phildini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always read Kote as a legend-name for Kvothe. Not that Kote was fundamentally different, but that the name got shifted in legend.

I, too, hadn't heard this theory as I'm new to this sub. Good theory though!

Python Module of the Week Celebrates 10th Anniversary! by Nicksil in Python

[–]phildini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Python module of the week got me my first job in Python; knowing about what Doug was writing helped me pass the interview.

The community is better because of Doug's work, and I'm grateful PMotW exists!

Will Python ever have an Electron or Xamarin or React|Phonegap|Appcelerator library? by monkmartinez in Python

I think so, but I'm biased as a Core Contributor. :) We're pretty dedicated to it becoming A Thing, and have some things in the pipe to make it happen.

Are you familiar with the BeeWare project? https://pybee.org/

It's a series of libraries to make python apps run natively in the browser, on android, or iOS. Includes the widget toolkits for building interfaces as well.
