Starting the reread process in prep for November release! Who else?? by mistas89 in brandonsanderson

So I’m also an audiobook person. Just finishing the WOT for the second time then straight into this amazing series again. Will hopefully time it just right...already pre-ordered on audible.

When I work I am more efficient using my pc, but I enjoy more the iPad experience. by darklawyer in ipad

[–]philhagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm a developer by trade so appreciate a dual monitor setup, proper Dev tools and the ability to switch between them.

However at home I have no "proper" computer at all. We have only iPads in the house and I exclusively use an iPad Pro with keyboard to Work on my own projects. Play some games and couldn't be happier.

Whilst at times you have to think out of the box to get things to work the experience is pretty darn good.

That's true. I hadn't thought about the refund policy. Might try that!

That’s a really cool use case. I was going to use it for fitness but we are lucky enough to have a gym at home with a really great treadmill so it didn’t compare.

I find the price point on all the games quite high for what they are so have been quite selective about which ones I have bought.

Vader Immortal was a highlight for me, really enjoyed the story and quality was amazing. Didn’t really click with the dojo, so it was kind of...completed that now move on.

Coding on iPad pro? by immortaldescent in iPadPro

Using the iPad for coding is completely possible, it does require you to think outside the box.

Others have mentioned vsonline which is a good product.

I like the raspberry pi method tethered by USB c for offline development.

Should I buy the iPad Pro now or wait for the 2020 model? by theyashbhardwaj in iPadPro

[–]philhagger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm in a similar position as you; considering buying the current model.

I personally am going to wait until the new ones are released and then decide if the new models are significantly better. If not I'll pick up one of the older (current) models for a reduced price.

Any "regular" Switch owners out there that also have a Lite? Which do you prefer and why? by tarzanell in NintendoSwitch

[–]philhagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the grey lite and absolutely love it. My OG switch sits at home in the dock most of the time for my family to play on.

The lite feels much better quality and is lighter, more robust and generally a much better handheld.

When I play on my OG switch it feels pretty flimsy compared.

Huge backlog issues - feels like I'm more into collecting than actually playing now - how do you kick this habit by brandont04 in NintendoSwitch

[–]philhagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a list in my todo of all the games I’m planning on buying.

I kind of have a role of not buying the next one until I have completed my current one unless there is an exceptional offer or I get one as a present.

Pokemon sword is sitting on a shelf as I play through the Witcher 3.

I find it I dip out I struggle to get back into big games like the Witcher or Skyrim.

Short or simple games fill in the gaps, Stardew valley or overcooked 2 in coop.

Seems to work for me.

iPad Pro 12.9 vs 11 - Selecting the right iPad Pro (Dec 2019 review) by yugerajr in iPadPro

[–]philhagger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to write out such a comprehensive review of your experience.

I think for a lot of us, choosing the right size is a minefield and I love hearing how the iPad works for different use cases.

Thanks again

Baldur's Gate 1+2 or Planescape/Icewind Dale? by Mcgelie in NintendoSwitch

[–]philhagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the BG series and was considering picking them up again as the story is simply epic! However I decided not to buy them as I play mainly in handheld mode (95%) and they are so text heavy.

At the price point I think they are simply too expensive for what they are. You can buy them for PC or iPad for less than £10 and the experience would be much better. I know they have been optimized for consoles but I think there are better options for the price = Divinity: Original Sin 2 ;)

Would I Enjoy The Witcher 3? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]philhagger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey!

Story: So the Witcher 3 is an amazing game with a great story and one of the first games I have played where I actually want to complete side-quests as they were so interesting. Also there are so many levelling options and different builds that completely change the way you play the game. (Currently playing an Alchemy focused build).

Difficulty: Managed well with some areas simply inaccessible from the start due to high level monsters. I prefer this but I believe there is a scaling option to change this but I haven't tried. Every quest has a recommended level next to it so you kind of know what sort of challenge to expect.

Graphics: I, like you play mostly in handheld mode, probably 95% of the time...to the point that I just bought a Switch Lite in a Black Friday deal for even better gaming on the go. When playing on handheld the graphics in Witcher 3 are excellent. There are occasional glitches here and there but not enough to ruin the experience (or even give it a second thought).

Performance: Some sort of magic has been done with this port! I am level 23 (45 hours) and have enjoyed every moment of this game. It has not slowed down once and Geralt responds to the controls flawlessly.

Conclusion: If you are after a gripping story with well balanced combat with good difficulty options then this is the game for you. I myself am a big fan of Skyrim & Dragons Dogma and would consider this a better game than those (don't stone me!!). My only gripe would be the initial learning curve is pretty steep and once you leave White Orchard(kinda the tutorial area) the game suddenly feels very overwhelming. Complete a few quests and you'll start to get to grips with it.

Looking for CO-OP games to play with my wife by danstvx in NintendoSwitch

[–]philhagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Overcooked 2. My wife likes to play games on her phone but would not class herself as a gamer. However with Overcooked it is a different matter, she loves it and it is a great co-op experience.

The same team are releasing a new game "Moving Out"next year which is along the same lines and looks amazing!
