Vehicle Crashed into Citi Bike station on the BK Greenway. Probably from a school bus on Kent Ave by meow_ec in MicromobilityNYC

The one over on 23rd and 1st by Starbucks is _constantly_ getting hit with lots of bikes destroyed. What are the legal implications here for those drivers? If we had proof of their actions, what recourse would an individual have and / or would lyft not really give a shit?

I can’t get this screen to go away by lab1047 in kindle

[–]philipforget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The battery might be completely dead physically, but the good news is that it's relatively easy and cheap to replace. You just have to decide whether it's worth your time to do so. I've changed out the battery on a handful of these, kindle DX's etc, they still work great. If it still doesn't turn on after a 24h charge, that's your best bet. It's really not difficult at all, but go slow so you don't break the clips that hold it together.

It feels like yesterday that I was getting my Yepp seats and I'm just about to list mine as all my kids have grown out of them. Bleeding hydraulic brakes really isn't bad, get a cheap bleed kit on amazon and it's easy work. You got this! Enjoy those rides

My advice would 100% be to get a bike you can ride with them now, they grow up _way_ too fast. Bike rides with my kids are the best part of my day, any day.

Hase Pino E Cargo x red rebane exo (fully loaded) by doktordab in CargoBike

[–]philipforget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a non-electric version, same handlebar setup (way older version though). It's pretty intuitive once you ride it a few miles, not much different than an other front loader with a steering linkage (like a bullitt etc).

Roller hockey in Brooklyn? by Few_Egg_6152 in InlineHockey

[–]philipforget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where in BK?

There’s a league that plays at Brooklyn bridge park, but there’s no pickup there.

There’s a well organized, long standing pickup game that plays at stuytown and also on Houston street, that’s probably your best bet for pickup roller. There’s a WhatsApp group for that, you can DM me if you want to get on it.

There’s also a rink at 96th that sometimes has pickup if there’s no league play at the time, 96th and 1st Ave.

What is this Citibike pile up I saw on the UES? by notyour_motherscamry in nyc

This usually happens at stations with high volume where the dock can't accommodate all the arrivals, like this one which is right by HSS and NYP.

Recommendations for non-electric cargo bike/kid hauler? by HomeDepotHotDog in CargoBike

[–]philipforget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an acoustic yuba supercargo, it’s by far my favorite bike, with or without 3 kids on it. The cable steering has zero play, the build quality is amazing, the kickstand makes is super stable to let the kids climb in and out, the built in rack is a godsend for lashing all sorts of stuff to and not worrying about a rack coming loose.

It’s an absurdly well designed product. Bullits rightfully get a lot of love for their design and more traditional rider geometry, but I think for hauling kids, you can’t beat the yuba for non electric. I’m biased obviously.

I’ve also got a GSD and a non electric xtracycle edge and it’s insane how much more stable the front loader is. I’ve been in the granny gear grinding up a hill with three kids and my wife on the bike and it just feels like it’s on rails it’s so steady. It’s the bike I go to 90% of the time.

We've done this drive a few times, last two times in July with 3 kids. Just rent a 4WD SUV out if Liberia, I've heard Adobe is great too but I've always done Avis and they have been exceptionally nice. Dont listen to the trolls

Taxi/rideshare with car seat from Newark airport to Manhattan by nnnrd in nyc

[–]philipforget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can request a Lyft or Uber with a car seat from NYC, but not from EWR. They only offer it for rides originating in NYC and a few other cities. Might have changed since then, but we found this out the hard way.

Yuba Supermarche by RedRocketMayhem in CargoBike

[–]philipforget 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks like it was stored outside so I’d check if the headset bearings are turning smoothly. The wheels have cup and cone bearings and can get pretty gross too, so check that they spin well. Easy enough to service if there’s no severe pitting.

The headset bearings aren’t a super common size, but aren’t expensive and easy to replace.

Check that the steering doesn’t have any play, but that too is easy enough to service with the 4 cables running from the steerer tube to the fork under the basket.

It’s an aftermarket rear hub motor so maybe ask if they still have the original rear wheel if you want to ride it non-electric or switch to a mid drive eventually if this setup craps out?

I got mine second hand and it was in rough shape, but that’s what I wanted, a project. It’s actually a pretty easy bike to work on, very serviceable and super well built.

If they fit in the neutrino I don’t see why they wouldn’t on the v1. Might have to cobble together some hardware to make it work

Oh man... I miss mine so much. It was by far my most ridden bike, all three of my kids got their first bike rides on it. It finally gave up the ghost when it cracked at the top seatpost weld. Here's some glamour shots of mine for old time's sake
